Bound By Fate: Katarina and Eric’s Unbreakable Love

Katarina’s POV “What did you just do Kat!!!!!!” I scream inwardly as I stare at the engagement ring I had just slid into the finger of this dashing stranger. Yep, you read that right…. A stranger…. …. and if you haven’t noticed the second most embarrassing story line here, it’s the fact that I Katarina Julio was the one asking a man to marry me. Now raising up my head slowly to look at the face of this young man who accepted my ring, flash backs from few hours ago began to flood back. My day had just started as a very bright and optimistic day as I had finally decided on what I was going to do even after my friend Juliana tried as much as she could to convince me against it. I was going to propose to my heartthrob Mason and this is what leads us to the third part of this embarrassing story line. I travelled down from the Philippines to New York for the first time just to surprise him!! Mason and I have been dating for 3 years now. We met in the Philippines at a conference and we clicked. Mason was a foreigner there and his company had just sent him over to the Philippines on an assignment to assist the headquarter there. My father’s company was partnering with theirs and so we were both involved in each other’s businesses. My father was the president of Julio’s Dynasty and this was a family owned business. We were the top richest family in the Philippines but while my father was sick back at that time, I as the only child of my parent had to fill up that position as the acting President. This was contrary to what my half brother had hoped for. Markos has always had eyes for being the one to run the company but I had also trained myself all this years to take over the company. Suddenly few months ago, Mason had to go back to New York, so we continued dating hoping that we can make something out of the long distance relationship. Now, sadly almost about few weeks ago my dad dies, and I rightfully am supposed to fully head the company as the President and CEO of the company. Shocker comes in when my lawyer reads out the will, “…. all assets and wealth as well as the title as the CEO of the company have been placed under your name but they would be accessible to you, ONLY after you get married”. This clause attached was the reason why I hopped on the next flight to New York seeking Mason as I wasn’t ready to forfeit the company to my half brother. Recalling my response after the clause was read out (I felt embarrassed at my confidence now) “My boyfriend is a foreigner and I am going to get married to him. I would also bring him back to the Philippines in a week’s time,” I had said proudly to the hearing of my half brother and the lawyer. I figured that since I and Mason were dating and in love, getting him to marry me wouldn’t be a problem plus I have always believed in a phrase my dad would always say. “Go for what you want, Katarina” So, I was going to propose to Mason and I was going to get my title as the head of the company!! I called him while on my way to make sure of his location while not giving off any hint that I was in New York. I walked straight into the company where he works and then I was shown my way to his office and on seeing that the secretary’s seat was empty, it seemed like a perfect surprise plan. Imagine my shock when I was the one who was surprised instead! I had opened the door without knocking and there he was half naked with a lady whose leg was curled around his waist as their lips were intertwined in a French kiss. To think that they hadn’t even still noticed me standing there shocked feeling embarrassed, angry and totally devastated. My bag falls of my hand and that’s only when Mason notices my present. “Mason!!”I yell out. They are surprised by my presence and Mason is shocked as he possibly wonders how I was here in person. He tries to cover up himself not knowing what to say. He looked like a cat caught in the bag. Was this happening because I have refused him s*x till we get married? “Would I forgive him if he said he was sorry and this was a mistake?” I ask myself as I stand astounded and confused not knowing what to do. But then, I get my answer and I couldn’t have been more pained when the lady replies me, “He was only with you because off your father’s wealth. I am the one he truly loves and maybe it’s just best you stay out of our way now that you know the truth, Katarina. Your half brother stands a chance at getting the company anyways since he is definitely wiser than you, so we don’t have a need for you any longer. Plus I am really tired of having to stand by and watch you steal my man from me ….” “She knew who I was and I was just a jackpot to them all along!!!” I scream inwardly. “Shut your mouth, Alice” Mason suddenly cuts in and stops her from saying any more but I had already heard enough to bring me to knees crying and feeling used. But I wasn’t going to give in. A tear tried to escape my eyes but it took all of me to hold it back in and instead, I remembered the daughter of who I was as I decide to walk away instead not ready to show them my weakness at all. “Shame’s on you Mason not me!!” I say confidently with every ounce of energy I could muster as I pick up my bag ready to leave with my head held up high. “You dropped something!” I suddenly hear him scream after I have made few steps out and my hand immediately moves to search my bag hoping it wasn’t what I was thinking. The ring!! “Oh!! Talk about shame!!” Shocking even to me, I walked back with my face stern and tough as I yank it out of his hand forcefully without blinking and not even bothering to look in the face then I continue walking in my initial direction. “Was she going to propose to you, hahahaha!!” I could hear that lady laugh in the background but I just kept moving. Heaven knows how hard I tried to keep all my emotions down as I keep walking… Inside I was ready to burst out in tears out of shame but I was definitely not going to give them the luxury of seeing me that way. “…. and there goes my 3 years relationship. I, Katrina have officially been used and dumped by a mere foreigner not even up to my standard,” I chuckle sadly as I see that he didn’t even run after me. I have no idea why I have been acting on my first thought all day but since I had already begun I was going to see to the end of it. As I stood in front of the elevator wiping my face, I made a firm stance that I wasn’t going back to the Philippines without a husband. I wasn’t ready to be laughed at back at home too. My crazy resolution: I was going to propose to the first man that catches my attention when the elevator door opens.
