Chapter nine - Visiting his new house

2687 Words
Abby's POV: Luke officially moved out of his parent's house. I don't know how good this idea was, but I'm glad he feels better with his grandparents. If that makes him happy, I will support him. As a girlfriend, that is part of my duties. Also, I am not the one who should tell him what to do. He is a grown-up boy. Part of all of this includes me going to dinner. His granny can't wait to see me. I saw her for like five minutes on FaceTime, but she seemed a lovely woman. I know she will take care of Luke. It's visible that she is on his side. That is what he needs now. I mean, support from someone. Of course, he will always have mine. Mom had a chat with my dad. So, I am not grounded, but my dad still doesn't like my boyfriend. I tried to talk with him without us ending up arguing. It was impossible. I don't know how to explain to him my point of view. Luke is not a bad guy. I don't understand why he doesn't want to see it. Even if my boyfriend proves himself, my dad won't think it's enough. I have no idea what he wants. I asked him, but he avoided my question. For now, I will leave him. We'll talk about this again another day. It's better if I focus on my dinner. I have never been invited to one. I mean, only me. Usually, I have been with my parents. I'm not saying that it's something horrible. I bet that his parents will never see me. Honestly, I don't want to meet them as well. Otherwise, we might end up arguing. I will defend Luke in any way. It means they will be against me. That is something that shouldn't happen. Luke already has enough problems. I don't want to create another one. I have to be with him. Also, help him with everything I can. I never thought we could have a complicated relationship. Well, our parents make it. I hope that in the future, we won't have the same problems. If we have a long relationship, that can't happen. Today is my dinner with Luke's grandparents. I am a bit nervous, but I guess it's normal. After all, I have never been presented as someone's girlfriend. Up to now, I have been single. I'm glad that I'll meet someone who takes care of him. He needs to have people by his side who will support him. I am here, but I can't do much. Also, I am a stranger. Maybe, not for my boyfriend, but for everyone else. His grandparents can tell me something about his childhood. Luke hasn't talked much about that. It will be interesting for me to know what a kid he was. Currently, it's my lunch break. The class just finished, and I will go to take my books for the next one. I waited for Luke to get out of his classroom. Lately, he wants us to spend a lot of time together. It's not like I mind. Both of us walked to our lockers. Later, we went for lunch. He told me to find a table while he chose my lunch. Usually, I do it, but I would like to see what he thinks I eat. We don't talk much about food. - Take this. I hope you will like it. - Mashed potatoes and pizza. - You don't like it, do you? - I do, but I have never eaten these two together. - Now you will. Also, tell me the menu for tonight. Granny wants to cook something you like. - She doesn't have to do it. - Maybe, but she wants to. Please, tell me what you like. Otherwise, she will kill me. - Luke said, chuckling - Honestly, I like everything. There is no specific food that I like more than the other. Whatever she cooks, I will eat it. - Can't you say something? - Tell her what I said. - Ok, but if I don't show up for dinner, it will be your fault. - Luke said, and I laughed - We have a deal. After school, I walked home. I started with my homework. My boyfriend didn't say what time the dinner was. I wanted to get ready on time. When I finished my work for the day, I went for a shower. I walked out of the bathroom at 5 pm. Soon, my mom came in. She looks in a good mood. Maybe something has happened. - Hi, mom. - Hey. Are you getting ready for somewhere? - I am invited to a dinner. - Does this has to do something with your boyfriend? - Maybe. - So you will meet his parents. - No, I will meet his grandparents. - What? - Luke moved out of the house. Now he lives with his grandparents. - Why would he do that? - Because they always argue about him. Luke got tired and moved out. I don't know how long he will be there. - Isn't this a bit childish move? - Honestly, I agree with him. If your parents constantly compare you with someone and think you are a failure, you will move out. - Does he feel better there? - Yes. His grandparents treat him well. Also, they are on his side. - That is good. I'm sure he likes that. - He does. Mom, I love talking to you, but I should get ready. Also, please don't tell my dad. I know he won't like it. - My mouth is shut. Do you need help with something? - Hair up or down? - I like your ponytails and braids. - Then my scalp hurts when I take them off. - I can straighten your hair. - Thanks. That will do better. - Ok, I will make you the prettiest girl he has ever seen. - Why is dad not like you? - Look, none of you knows what real love is. Neither how to take care of each other. The difference is that I want you to experience this. That's why I have no problem with him. - Thanks, mom. I appreciate it. At 7 pm, I walked out of the house. I decided to be a bit late. The thing is that I don't want his grandparents to think that I can't wait to be there. It's not a lie, but it's better if they don't know it. I texted Luke earlier to give me the address. I don't want him to come and take me. Dad is at home. That is the only reason. Soon, I arrived and knocked on the door. - You must be Abby. - an old lady said and hugged me tightly - Y-yes, and you are suffocating me. - Oh, sorry. Come in. Your prince is in his room. - Thanks. What did you cook? It smells heavenly. - It's a surprise. Go and call your prince. - Which room is his? - The one over there. - Thank you. I knocked on the door and walked in. Luke was sleeping, hugging the pillow. For some reason, this is cute. I laid down and snuggled. I don't want to wake him up, but the dinner will get cold. I kissed his cheek and started playing with his hair. - Five more minutes. - The dinner will get cold. - Abby? When did you come? - It was like ten minutes ago. - Why didn't you wake me up? - Because you sleep cute. Also, I didn't want you to be mad at me for that. - I will never get mad at you, ok? - Ok, thanks. - Let's go now. Granny won't wait for us forever. - Luke said, chuckling - Oh, you two are here. Was my boy sleeping? - A little bit. - I wonder what you will do tonight if you have slept now. - his grandpa said - I'll be fine. - You must be the girlfriend. Don't worry. I won't say anything. - It's ok, and yes. I'm Abby. - Sit down, dear. I have made the best dinner for you. - Luke had to move here, so she could start cooking. - Luke's grandpa said, chuckling - Oh, shut up, old stick. I have been cooking for you for years. - And I have been eating for years. - Your grandparents are lovely. - I whispered to my boyfriend - That's why I love them so much. All of us were eating. The food is melting in my mouth. I don't know what ingredients Luke's granny had put, but it makes the meal ten times better. I don't want to stop eating. No matter that I'm close to getting a full tummy. - If you don't like my food, I can make you something else. - Oh, no, thank you. It's delicious. I'm taking a small break. I haven't eaten like that in a while. - I will do everything for my boy to be happy. I will do it since his mom doesn't know how to treat him. - I'm sorry. I was wrong. You do live like a king here. - I told you. This is my kingdom. - Luke said - Don't forget about your queen, mister king. - his grandpa said - I won't. - I will prepare the dessert. - his granny said - Can I help you? Please. - I said - Ok, you can come with me. - How was Luke as a kid? He hasn't talked much about his childhood. It's not like I have asked. - He was a great kid and very different from his brother, Sam. - Different in a good or bad way. - Oh, in a good, for sure. Poor Sam was doing everything to please his parents. Luke did things his way. That's why we liked him more. He had a great childhood compared to his brother. When your parents tell you not to do something, you follow them. Luke never did that. The boy was doing whatever he wanted. - Is this why his parents don't like him? - I don't know. My daughter wants to have successful kids. I understand her, but not every rich person is successful. I told this to Luke, and I will do it to you too. He will be and live way better than his brother. Luke will be happier way and more successful in life than Sam. The boy did everything my daughter wanted, only to make her happy, but I don't think he was. - That's sad. I have never met Sam, but from what I heard, he is a god boy. - He is, but can't stand for himself. Not when it comes to my daughter. - But, miss. - No, no. No miss here. Call me granny. - But you are not my grandmother. - You are dating my grandson, so I am your granny. - Ok, granny. Have you talked with his parents? - She doesn't want to listen. That's why I'm happy that Luke is here. - He doesn't want to go to university. - I know. He told me about that. - I think he knows what he wants. The thing is that he has no support at home. I mean, from his parents. - That's true. We'll help him with what we can. The final decision is his. - Don't forget about me. I'm here too. - I said, chuckling - You are what he needs now. - I hope so. I talked with his granny for a while. Later, we went back to the table. The moment I sat down, I was pulled for a hug. Well, I won't deny one. I'm glad that I can see him when whenever I can. I don't care if my dad is ok with that. I stayed with Luke and his grandparent until 10 pm. I don't want to go, but I can't sleep here. Luke offered to send me home, but I denied it. After all, I don't want him to argue with my dad. He is probably waiting for me at the front door. Also, I was invited to another dinner. I'm happy that they liked me. All the way home, I was thinking about this dinner. Now I feel bad for Sam and know why he is the favorite child. I find it horrible to compare your kids with each other, but I'm not part of this. I arrived home and saw my dad in the kitchen. Did he wait for me all this time? I told my mom where I had been but forbade her to say this to him because I knew he would get mad. - It was about time to come home. - Hey, dad. I thought you were in bed. - Won't you tell me where you have been? - Outside. - It's obvious. Tell me where you have been. - I told you I was outside. - With who? - What? Dad, I'm not on interrogation. - Answer me. - Ok, fine. I was at a dinner with Luke and his grandparents. Are you happy? - I think I have told you to stay away. He won't keep you safe. - I don't want him to do that. I don't date him so he can be my bodyguard. - You walked home alone. Right? - Yes, because I didn't want him to send me. If he has done that, you would see him and get mad at him for no reason. I didn't want you two to argue again. - For once, listen to me. How can you be sure that he is good for you? - Because I have spent time with him. Also, I want someone with who I can have fun. That's it. I'm not looking for a serious relationship. Why can't you understand that? - When he breaks your heart, don't come to me. - Dad, please. Listen to me. - No, I made my decision. I won't be responsible for the things he will do to you. - He won't do anything to me. Why are you talking like that? - What is going on here? - mom asked - Ask your daughter. - dad said and left - Honey, what happened? - Dad got mad because I was out with Luke. - You told him? - I had to. He kept asking where I was and with who. - I'm sorry. Let me talk to him. - No, it's ok. - How was the dinner? - His grandparents are lovely. I ate a lot of food. - I'm glad that you enjoyed it. - Honestly, I didn't want to go. I couldn't sleep there, especially when dad was waiting for me. - I told him it was a bad idea. - Mom, don't mess with this. I don't want you two to argue as well. - I want to help you, that's it. - Thanks, but I'm fine. I won't stop visiting Luke, so my dad can't do anything. His granny said I'm always welcome. - I'm glad that you are happy. - I am. Mom and I talked for a while. Later, I went to bed. It was already late. I don't know how I will convince my dad to accept Luke. For now, it looks like a mission impossible. I have no idea what to do with him anymore. Dad and I always had a good relationship. Since I started dating Luke, something broke down. I don't know what happened, but I miss the old times. Things were calmer. I will keep trying to talk with him. Maybe one day, he will give up. There are no signs of this now. I can ask my mom for help, but I don't want to mess her with this. I hope that soon this will be over. Arguing with my dad is not something I like.
