Forks Washington
I sat in the back seat of the family car, waiting impatiently for my sister Isabella to get back. She insisted on taking one last walk to soak in the sun. I knew she was doing more then that since you couldn't really go that far without water in this heat, especially if you are Bella.
"Mooom!" I whined as sweat trickled down my face. I could feel my eyes buring from my mascara running and I knew I'd have to retouch it very soon. "Why does she have to do this now! It's hot, I'm sweaty, my makeup is ruined and my outfit is wrinkled." I said as I kicked the back of the front passenger seat like a child.
My mother who was sitting in her seat at the time I kicked it turned around and gave me a stern look. There is something you don't see everyday. My mother was a child at heart and disciplining in any shape or form was beneath her. Or well, she was simply terrible at it.
I broke into a fit of laughter that made me sweat more as my belly began aching only to recieve another look from my mother.
"Here she comes." My stepfather said.
I turned and looked out the window just as Bella came walking over to the door.
"Scoot over." She said as she opened the door.
I smirked as I shook my head.
"I was here first, plus you love walking so walk yourself around the car and get in." I said to my sister.
I found it amusing that she tried to get me to move. Its her fault she was late or she could've had this spot and what for a stupid walk in the stupid head that I was excited to get rid of. The heat that she loves so much. It's weird how different we are. I love the cold she loves the warmth. I love dressing up and she likes dressing down. She hates wearing makeup I love wearing makeup. Her personality is dull and mine is outgoing. The only things we have in common is that we don't like being the center of attention, we have never dated, we both internalize things and we both are very mature for our age.
She sighed and gave in. I watched, my head craning, as my sister walked around the car and got in. The moment the door closed we were backing out of the drive to the place we called home for the past 16 years. I looked over my shoulder at the house as we began driving down the street and for a moment I wanted to cry.
My sister must've sensed this because she grabbed my hand and squeezed it reassuringly. When I looked up at her I saw her eyes glazed over. She wanted to cry too.
"Don't cry." I mouthed before I broke her hold and put my earphones in my ears.
The ride to the airport couldn't have been any shorter and before we knew it we were hugging our mother and stepfather goodbye. My mother was the only one to break into tears which she quickly wiped away in time to tell us that if we wanted to come home she would come back.
Our mother was going on tour with our stepfather Phil who was a minor league baseball player. She normally stayed home with me and my sister while he was traveling but Bella and I could see it made her really unhappy. So the two of us thought we could move in with dad for our final adolescent years so she could spend more time with Phil.
Of course mom didn't like the idea much even though our father was all for it and even encouraging it. Over the past few weeks he had been moving houses because the one he lived in before his and moms divorce was too small. It was a two bedroom one bath and with two teenage daughters that is a recipe for disaster. The new home that dad had purchased was a three bedroom two bath that was in a secluded area.
I didn't like the idea of being secluded but it was the only house that dad could find on the market at that good of a price without having to leave Forks where his job was. As long as I had my own room I was fine. There was absolutely no way all my clothes would fit in a closet with Bella's things. I had so much clothes that I had to ship over 5 large boxes and that was just my clothes. I wasn't going to leave without all of my things as I didn't plan on coming back. I hated Arizona.
The moment we got past airport security and to our terminal we were being let on the plane. Bella and I quickly jumped in the line behind a few others, who made it there first, and waited until it was our turn. The moment I sat down I put me earphones in my ears and pulled my eyemask over my head. I hated the idea of several hundred people in a tin can flying several thousand feet in the air. Not that I was afraid of flying its just that I didn't like too many people in a small area and this was small.
4 songs into my music I was nudged by my sister, which I ignored until she nudged me again. Pulling down my eye mask I paused my music and glared at Bella only to be lectured by a flight attendent with a prissy attitude.
"Please turn off all electrict devices." She said to me.
I clicked a random button and then smiled at her.
"It's off." I replied.
The moment she walked away I turned my music on low and stuck my earbuds back in my ears and pulled my eye mask back on.
"Stupid woman." I said to myself.
I could feel the airplane began to move and then seconds later we were climbing into the sky. Somewhere near the border of California I fell asleep only to be jostled awake as we began our descend onto the SeaTac runway. The second we landed I jumped up from my seat and climbed over my sister, who was taking her time getting up, and made my way quickly down the isle.
Luckily I had no carry ons or baggage with me so I was able to make my way straight out of the terminal. As I came down the stairs to the main lobby I began looking left and right in the sea of faces for my father. Of course his black hair and matching mustache stuck out of the crowd, or maybe it was his police uniform.
"Daddy!" I shrieked as I took off running and jumped into his arms.
He groaned as he caught me from my weight and set me to my feet.
"You are too heavy to be jumping into your old mans arms like that." My father said. He looked around the airport and I watched as his eyebrows came together in confusion. "Where is your sister at?" he asked me.
I turned around and spotted her as she came down the stairs. Raising my index finger I pointed.
"She wanted to take her time getting off the plane." I said.
After another two minutes she finally made it to our side.
"You almost forgot your phone." Bella said to me as she handed it to me.
I took it and thanked her before we headed out to the front where Charlie had parked his police car. He nodded once towards the security gaurd who was eyeing him and then opened the front passenger door. I saw the oppourtunity seconds after it came. There was only one seat in the front meaning the other would have to sit in the back.
I ran and threw myself into the front seat and quickly buckled myself in. There was no way in hell I was going to sit in the back seat like some kind of criminal. Bella on the other hand I didn't think she would mind, she didn't care much about how she looked. Me on the other hand, I was a bit more complex.
Just like I thought Bella got into the back seat without so much a whimper and buckled up. Finally we were on our way home. I couldn't wait to see my bedroom. Scratch that I couldn't wait to see the entire house. Dad had told me about it during the many times I called him to make sure my things arrived in the mail. The home was set on an few acres of land and had a nearby river and a small pond just yards from the back door. That meant one thing to me, ice skating in the winter which was just a week or two away.
The only perk of moving in late October. I still had time to get a job and save up money to get some new winter clothes. The thing I wasn't looking forward to was jumping into the middle of a semester.
I stared out the window, my music playing in my ears, and watched the scenery passing by. Tree's, tree's and more tree's. Bringing my gaze up to the sky I looked at the clouds and saw it looked like it was about to rain. My father who glanced over noticed this.
"The weather forcast for the week is nothing but good ole rain." He said, knowing that I loved the rain and cold weather.
In the back seat I heard my sisters moan. She hated the rain, anything wet and cold was the worst to her. She liked the sun, I don't know why since it made you dirtier faster and could kill you if you didn't drink enough or stay cool enough.
"I can't wait to see my room." I beamed. "Oh and the river, is it swimmable?" I asked my dad anxiously.
"I want you and your sister to stay away from the river, its too fast and you can drown." He said.
I sighed before I put my earphones back on and resumed to staring out the window. Soon enough we were entering the small town of Forks, Washington. We hadn't even gotten a mile in before we turned off onto an old dirt road. We wounded through the trees, following the path for atleast 3 minutes before we stopped out front a house.
My eyes widened as I looked out the windshield, this house was nothing like I imagined it when I had talked to dad on the phone. It was bigger then I thought, by two stories. I was staring up at a three story house. Before I could speak Bella stole the words right from my mouth.
"Dad, this is too much how did you even afford it?" She said.
As I got out of the car, I kept my eyes trained on the massive cabin home before us. Now that I thought about it I wondered what he had to pay in order to affored this house.
"Well-" my father said as he walked up to the front door and began unlocking it. "- Remember Dr. Switter?" He asked us. Bella and I both shook our heads. "He was the doctor who delivered me when I was born. Anyways he and his wife moved to Hawaii for their retirement over 5 years ago was unable to take their things here so they offered me the place about 5 months ago but I turned it down. Then you and your sister decided you wanted to move out and so I called him and asked if the offer was still on the table and he said yes. Rent free, I just have to pay the utilities and keep up on things around here." He finished as he opened the front door.
He stepped back to let my sister and I enter before he followed and closed the door. The moment he turned on the lights my breath was taken away. It was beyond amazing and everything was expensive looking, this was insane.
"Dad, why would he trust you with this place, its.... nice." Bella asked.
"Dr. Switter is my uncle. They would've left it to their only son but he died in a drowning accident back in my high school years. When I was young my father and mother died unexpectedly and they were the only family I had left." My father explained. "Your rooms are upstairs, Bella I hope you don't mind but I gave your sister the master bedroom because she had alot of things so you get the room on the third flood across from mine."
"I don't mind." Bella said.
We stood in silence for a few moments before my father told us to go and get settled in for the night. I wasn't going to complain over something like that so I quickly made my way to the stairs. When I reached the second floor I told Bella I'd see her later and made my way down the hall. The first door was a nice room, with oak wood floors and shelves of books that lined the walls. In the center the floor sank a few feet and played host to a piano.
The second room looked like an office or a study of some sort. This also had more books but they were on subjects of education like medical studies, culinary studies and a few other things science-like. The last doors I could only guess were to the bedroom because it had two doors. I covered the last few feet at a run and quickly opened the doors. If I thought my eyes were wide when I walked into the house I was wrong.
Straight ahead were doors made completely of glass that seemed to open up onto the wrap around porch. To my left wasn't my bed but a bigger bed that I guessed my father didn't both switching out because it was too big. To my right was a sitting area and several boxes and behind the boxes were another pair of doors, which I guessed was my closet.
I took another two steps into the room and closed the doors behind myself before I began jumping up and down. I loved my room and couldn't believe the luck I had in getting it. I had my own porch and private entrance, my own sitting room, my own huge bed, my own walk in closet and my own bathroom.
Then it hit me, how big was my bathroom. I ran across the room and opened the door that led to my bathroom. In the back sitting under a large stainglassed window was a hottub shaped bath. I could fit my whole body in it by the looks of it. Then beside it was a shower and across from it was a sink with a large vanity. I was in love. Everything was perfect so far and I hoped it would only get better.
"Welcome to Forks Washington Sophia Allyse Swan." I whispered proudly to myself.
