My name is Emma Carter. 24. Desk girl on Floor 7.

I caught my husband Ryan cheating with my best friend Chloe in my bed on our anniversary. With my red scarf on the chair.

Ryan said, "You are just a desk girl. You count desks. Chloe counts money."

That night I slept under my desk on Floor 21. His boss found me crying at 2 AM. Alexander Black. 35. Billionaire CEO. He hates cheaters.

He said, "Marry me. One year contract. I need a wife. You need revenge."

I said yes.

Now my cheating husband is my husband's junior. My ex-best friend is my intern. And I am Mrs. Black, living on Floor 21.

But my billionaire contract husband has one rule: Don't fall in love with him.

Will I break Rule #4?

CHAPTER 1: THE DIVORCE ON FLOOR 7
The divorce papers smelled like cheap coffee and betrayal. Emma Carter stared at the two pages on her tiny desk on Floor 7, her fingers shaking. Three years. Three years of washing Ryan Carter's shirts, of packing his lunch, of believing his promises that he would become someone. Now, someone had indeed become someone else. Her husband. "I've already signed," Ryan said, standing over her cubicle like he owned the building. He didn't. He was just a junior manager in the sales department. But the way he looked down at her today, in his new Armani suit she had never seen before, made her stomach turn. "Ryan, what is this?" "It's exactly what it looks like, Emma. I'm divorcing you." The open office went silent. Twenty heads turned. Emma could feel her colleague Sarah's hand fly to her mouth. "Why?" Her voice came out as a whisper. "What did I do?" Ryan chuckled, and it wasn't the laugh she married. It was cold. "What did you do? You did nothing, Emma. That's the problem. You're... nothing. You're a data entry clerk on Floor 7 who brings instant noodles for lunch. Do you know who I am now?" He leaned closer, his voice low enough that only she could hear, but cruel enough to cut. "Mr. Black's personal assistant introduced me to Vanessa yesterday. Vanessa Williams. Her father owns half of Manhattan. And she thinks I'm... promising." Vanessa Williams. The heiress from Marketing on Floor 29. The woman who wore shoes that cost more than Emma's monthly rent. "So you're leaving me for a rich girl?" Emma asked, tears finally spilling. "I'm leaving you for a better life," Ryan corrected, sliding a pen across her divorce papers. "Sign it. Don't make this ugly. You have no money for a lawyer anyway. And..." He pulled out a second paper. A resignation letter. Already filled with her name. "...be a good girl and sign this too. Vanessa doesn't want my ex-wife working in the same building. It's embarrassing. HR already approved it. You have one hour to pack your desk." Emma's world collapsed. This was not just a divorce. It was an execution. He wanted to erase her completely. Her hand picked up the pen. It was heavy. Three years of love, reduced to a signature. Just as the tip touched the paper, a deep, cold voice echoed from behind them. "Who gave HR permission to fire my staff?" The entire floor froze. Ryan's face went white. White as paper. Emma turned slowly. Standing at the entrance of Floor 7, where no executive ever came, was a man in a black suit. Tall. 6'3". Shoulders that blocked the light. His face was carved from ice - sharp jaw, cold gray eyes, and an aura that made the air conditioner feel warm. Alexander Black. The Billionaire. The CEO. The owner of the entire Black Tower. The man whose name was on her paycheck, but whom she had never seen in three years. The man the magazines called "The Cold King of Wall Street." He wasn't supposed to be here. He lived on Floor 50. Floor 50 had its own elevator. Its own world. "What is happening here?" Alexander asked, his eyes not on Ryan, but on the papers on Emma's desk. On her tears. Ryan stammered, "M-Mr. Black! I was just... this is personal... my wife... I mean, ex-wife... she's resigning..." "Your wife?" Alexander walked forward. Each step was silent, but everyone heard it. He stopped in front of Emma's desk, picked up the resignation letter, looked at it for exactly two seconds, and tore it in half. The sound ripped through the silence. "No one fires my employees except me," he said, his voice calm, but it made Ryan flinch. "And you," he looked at Ryan, "are not me. You are a junior manager who just lost a million-dollar client last week. Am I correct?" Ryan couldn't speak. Alexander then looked down at Emma. Really looked at her for the first time. She was a mess. Red eyes, cheap white blouse, hair tied in a messy ponytail. But her eyes... even filled with tears, they were burning. Not begging. Burning with anger. Interesting. "What's your name?" he asked her. "Emma... Emma Carter." "Emma Carter," he repeated, as if testing the name. "Do you want to resign?" Emma looked at the torn papers. At Ryan's terrified face. At this man who had just saved her job without knowing her. "No," she said, her voice suddenly steady. "I don't." "Good." Alexander turned to his assistant who had appeared out of nowhere, a severe woman with a tablet. "Ms. Lin, Mr. Ryan Carter is fired. Effective immediately. For abuse of power and attempting to force a resignation. Escort him out. And blacklist him from all Black-affiliated companies." "What?!" Ryan shouted. "You can't! Vanessa's father...!" "Vanessa Williams is also fired," Alexander said without looking. "Her father can buy her another company." He then did something no one on Floor 7 would ever forget. He pulled out Emma's chair. "Ms. Carter, my office is on Floor 50. I need a new temporary assistant for the next three months. My last one quit. The pay is ten times what you make now. The only requirement is that you are not stupid and you do not cry in my office. Can you do that?" Emma stared at the hand he offered. It was not a kind hand. It was a powerful hand. This was a contract. Not a rescue. Three months ago, she would have said no. She was a loyal wife. A good girl. But good girls got divorce papers on their desks. She wiped her tears with the back of her hand, stood up, and placed her shaking hand in his. His hand was warm. And strong. "I don't cry, Mr. Black," she said, looking straight into his cold gray eyes. "Not anymore." A flicker of something - approval? amusement? - passed through his eyes. "Then let's go, Ms. Carter," he said. "Welcome to Floor 50." Behind them, Ryan Carter was being dragged away by security, screaming her name. But Emma didn't turn around. For the first time in three years, she took the executive elevator. Going up.
