Chapter Four

1012 Words
The only word was on my mind was: s**t. After the giggles that resonated in the black forest, I growled in frustration as sweat drowned my whole body. I could feel my symbol glowing red. Where was that bloody Alpha of Wildcrest when there was a free rogue wandering in his territory? I seethed in anger at my stupid plan of questioning her. I knew better than to trust a reckless rogue. I should have jailed her from the very start. I scolded myself as my eyes drowned in wariness. My dad was going to flip at me tomorrow and I was going to be scolded by the royal packs. If it wasn't for their stupid territory rules, I would have caught her by now. The royal packs had always kept a limit on their borders because they had their irrational policy of mistrusting the other packs so they had set it clear that nobody from any pack was allowed to enter until they talk to the Alpha. I let out a breath of irritation and ran back as fast as I could to the meeting hall giving out signals to all the members of management except for tired Andy and my dad. I needed to do something about this but one thing kept replaying in my mind over and over was that she mentioned the word mate to me yet I didn't feel anything towards her. Mates are supposed to feel the pull, right? so why didn't I? and even if we are mates then why didn't she jump at me during the mate rush? Too many questions were in my head as the moonlight shone on me and made the sea looked stunning in the contrast of black and white. She just wanted to trick you because she wanted to escape. That was the only logical reasoning to this. "Braden, you need to search for the identity of the girl and her old pack, " I ordered strictly after I reached the meeting hall in front of the panel of management. He nodded in command. "Calum, you are responsible for the security of the pack because she might come back, " I instructed the executive and he nodded. "We all need to do everything we can to stop that rogue. She might have the potential to put our pack in danger." I explained directly to the panel and they all agreed with me sending mind links to the ones that couldn't attend the rushed meeting. My symbol never stopped ferociously glowing with red, I was not feeling protected at all as so many thoughts whirled in my mind like a never-ending cycle. I returned home and decided not to interrupt anyone so I sneakily climbed up to my room using my hands on our water pipe that was located on the side of the mansion. My plan worked as I landed safely on my room carpet and closed my window peacefully. I felt drained from all that power training and tracking so I took off my shirt and went into the bathroom to wash off the trickled sweat off of my chest. I stared at my bathroom mirror in contemplation. Something didn't seem right when I looked into her hazel eyes and I wanted to know who she was immediate. In all my years of power, I never experienced this feeling of agitation in my life except for this moment and there had to be a reason for that. If only you were here mom. Things would be so much easier. My now dark blue eyes stared back at me in melancholy and the sight of my bruised scarred chest showed in the mirror makes me want to erase my reflection in irritation. I really missed my mom and I always remembered her in my weakest moments. "Kaden, I can't sleep." I was surprised at the sound of Destalia that interrupted my memory lane and I looked at her alarmed that she was hurt but she thankfully wasn't. Her eyes were drowning in tears and her red puffy cheeks became redder with crying. She held her favorite bear to her chest and her little body was shaking in fright. "What's wrong, Desti?" I soothingly asked as I carried her in my arms. I didn't care about my shower anymore because I needed to take care of my frightened sister. "I dreamt that I killed a rabbit and it was so scary." she sucked her thumb as tears soaked her sleeping dress. Her voice was tired and there were heavy bags under her eyes so I placed her on my bed calmly. "I need you to stay on my bed so I could change into my pajamas, okay baby girl?" I affectionately said. She was wary at first but then she nodded knowing that I was here to protect her. I sighed once I was done with changing and washing my tired face. I had to stay strong for Destalia. Destalia's eyes calculated my every move in fear when I approached her. She was paranoid since I could tell by her hands roughly clutching onto the bear's head. I felt sad that she had to face these horrible illusions at a young age. She wasn't strong enough to handle them all. "It's going to be alright, Desti, I am here beside you. Remember that I am your favorite brother, right?" I smiled when I teased her and she giggled while nodding at me. Could it be that Destalia was cursed? That thought seemed rational to me because so many incidents happened to my little step sister that I was sure something inside of her was demonized. It was up to me to find out about the murder of the rabbit. and the hallucinations. My arms went around her tiny waist and she sucked her thumb as she closed her eyes settling her little head on my right arm supporting her head. I will protect you, whoever did this to you will pay badly. I vowed and joined her into our dreams.
