Chapter Thirty One minute I’m warm under my blanket, the next, a blast of cool air assaults my body. I splay my fingers across my bed, feeling around until my hand touches the soft blanket I must have kicked off in the middle of the night. My fingers don’t make contact with the blanket, but I do locate a couple of cheese curls I somehow missed during last night’s snack-food binge. I pop them into my mouth without even opening my eyes, then, like a turtle retreating under its shell, tuck my head and arms into my pajama top. “You have until the count of five to get up or this glass of water is going to end up all over your head.” I scream and sit straight up in the bed. Iris is standing above me, a glass of water tilted over my head. I’ve never regretted giving Iris a key to my apartment
