Chapter Thirty-One Except for a small light coming through the living room window, the house is dark when I pull the truck behind Christopher’s car in the driveway. In typical Georgia fashion, the temperature has dropped considerably, and an autumn wind wraps its cold fingers around me. I get out of the truck and pull the collar of my cable sweater up around my ears. My hand is still a little sore from the burns, and a dull ache throbs just below the surface. I take the stairs slowly, practicing my speech in my head, but I hesitate near the top.
