"Next Patient Please"
It was the second day Melody had been in town, covering for her mentor Dr Stein who was taking a long overdue holiday. Dr Stein was the only paediatrician at Green Oaks, a small inland town whose population was tight knit. Melody was born in this town, grew up here, fell in love and experienced her first heartbreak here.
Now a paediatrician, she lived in the city but came back to visit her parents who still lived in Green Oaks yet for the next two weeks she was back to living at home and it all felt comforting to her, familiar. This was proving to be a busy day as there seemed to be a flu bug going around, resulting in dozens of unhappy little patients; runny and stuffy noses, coughs and tears were the order of the day. What she did not expect to see was a tall man with a face that had once dominated her teenage dreams walking through the office door with a five year old girl in his arms. A man she had once loved beyond reason and had a planned a future. A man who had, four months into college, called her to tell her he has impregnated another woman and was very sorry for cheating on her. That was ten years ago. She was no longer a heartbroken eighteen year old, she was Dr Scott.
