Chapter 3

Scintilla POV: I was trying to come up with an idea of what to do now. Staying in the house by myself could be too dangerous, yet if I tried to leave now, the potentially dangerous creature might be waiting for me at the door already. So what was I supposed to do? I could fly out of one of the windows in the house, but then that window would be left open. While usually we don’t worry about thieves, now I was beginning to wonder if the creature then could get into my house and attack later.  Then I felt the anger and a big dose of annoyance so close to me, I knew that the being was right next to my house at this point. That was the moment I decided to fly out of the house from my father’s bedroom window, resolving that I could just return home with him and his wife and the we could deal with the consequences.  I tried to run as quietly as I could to the window, opening it, the window made a quiet creek. Not bothering myself to look down, I flew out of the window, not wanting to scare myself, in case I would see the angry beast.  I flew as high as possible above the tree line, so the thinning forests canopy could hide me from the beings on the ground. Flying towards the town, I lost the anger feeling that had overcome me, and felt immense joy and happiness coming from all sides in our kingdom. So easily, I could tell that our kingdom fairies had a special day, from all the pleasurable feelings radiating around them.  And the closer I flew towards my fellow fairies, the more peaceful I felt. Yet I did wonder about who could have gotten in our kingdom, especially on our sacred day. Other creatures from the Nine Kingdoms were allowed to visit, but they had to announce it before the Summer Solstice.  If it was any other day, they could arrive in our kingdom unannounced, but this wasn’t that type of a day and everyone else in the other kingdoms knew that. So that made me wonder if a rogue beast could have come for a visit, in that case I should let the guards know. While thinking about what should I do next, I flew towards my best friends Megan’s home. “Hey, girl! Come on in, my parents have gone to the market and they will be gone for quite some time, so in the mean time I can show you my new crafts” Megan with a big smile on her face welcomed me in her home. As she turned around her short, black hair made a little swoosh sound and that made her giggle.  And since her top had a low backline, I could see all the runes drawn on her body with ink. They suited her dark olive skin so well, making me think of how beautiful she would look on the beach. “So how are you feeling today?” Megan looked in my eyes, once she had closed the entrance door after we both walked in. “I know that you hate when everyone asks you that, especially on this day, but I am quite worried for you. You look antsy and it doesn’t suit you,” Megan narrowed her eyebrows as she stared at me in confusion. “I was doing pretty okay today, but the something weird happened,” I looked around her house to make sure that there was no one in here to hear us. “I felt these weird and strong emotions coming from the forest near my house, and as I was trying to find the source of them, I saw these strange eyes. They were so dark and whomever they belonged to, they weren’t a fairy” I whispered to Megan, still afraid, that someone could hear me, even though there was no one in her house. “Are you sure it wasn’t an animal?” Megan asked still putting up a calm exterior, yet I could feel  nervousness coming from her. “It wasn’t an animal, and it wasn’t a human either. I think it definitely was someone from the Nine Kingdoms, maybe even a rogue creature. So I think I should let the guards know” I confessed my fear to her. “I don’t think you should tell it to anyone, it didn’t attack” Megan offered her opinion, “maybe it was someone from the other Kingdoms and just didn’t realise they had crossed our territory or maybe they forgot about our special day, but once they realise it, they’ll turn around and go home. I’m sure it’s nothing dangerous, so you probably shouldn’t alarm the whole town on pour special day.” Maybe Megan was right, maybe the creature wasn’t going to attack or do anything dangerous. Megan had always been the more reasonable person, so I always trusted her opinion. “Yeah, you are probably right. Maybe someone made all their way here, looking for someone and something and then realised that they couldn’t enter the town, so they felt angry and agitated.” “That;s probably it” Megan said and led me in her room. I sat down on her bed, waiting for her to open up the secret place under her floorboards. There were quite a few strange things laying in there. Colourful potions, creams, so cosmetic items she loved to make, a lot of different magical components and an incredible amount of fairy dust. “What’s with the fairy dust?” I asked her. a few days ago she had only a very small pouch of it and we didn’t really need it unless some fairies wanted to get a bit loose and high. “Oh, don’t worry, I don’t use it for myself. I have just heard that other beings love it and magical cosmetics made out of them, so I stocked up the other day” she laughed and then pulled out a small pink potion and threw it my way. I almost didn’t catch it, so Megan gave me a short angry glare and then giggled. “Don’t spill it, it’s quite strong, so if you by accident would have spilled it out now next to you, you would still most likely fall in love with me” she laughed as she moved closer to me and sat down on her bed as well. “So you managed to make a love potion?” I asked in shock, “I thought that only quite experienced witches could only do it.” “A witch that teaches me, helped me to make it, but I think I’m becoming quite the expert myself.” “Oh wow, I’m truly impressed, Megan. But what do you need a love potion for? You know that probably any male fairy could fall in love with you.” “That’s true” Megan admitted to me, “but what if I want a royal fairy to fall in love with me quicker or maybe even someone out of our kingdom?” “So you want to become a royal one?” I asked her with confusion. She never had shown any interest in royal fairies. She usually regarded them as stuck up and annoying. “It would be a nice back up plan- to end up in the royal castle” she had a grin on her face as she said that. “Back up plan?” I was confused now, “wait, so you actually want to mate with someone who is not a fairy? You know how dangerous that is? You might end up being an outcast to your own people!” “Oh, come on! I am already more like a witch than a fairy. Most fairies already try to avoid me, those stupid fairy girls gossip and they are so mean towards me, why would I want to end up with their brothers? Plus, you know how feminine most fairy men are. I want to have a strong man, someone who is stronger than me, and you know that I couldn’t find that here.” She was right, I couldn't deny that. There weren’t many strong, alpha type fairy men left in our kingdom. Even I was stronger than most fairy men here, and I was so much weaker than Megan. I couldn’t blame her for looking at other men like witch doctors, werewolves, Wood elves, vampires, aqrabuamelu, mermen, oni or dragons. While I feared most of them, I couldn’t deny that quite a few of those races had incredibly beautiful and masculine men, especially in their human form. “Okay, I understand that, but why would you need a love potion even for other men? I’m sure you could seduce them with your beauty and intelligence. Especially the witch doctors, since you are skilled in the witch department,” I was curious to know what was the true purpose of her potion. “Most men from other races don’t even bother to look at me. I have tried getting their attention and flirting with them, but it doesn’t work. And then I met this incredibly gorgeous witch doctor, i just wanted to jump his bones the moment I saw him, but he just sees me as this young teenage fairy who is lost in life” she sighed, “plus, you don’t get it! You haven’t been interested in anyone in a s****l or romantic way, so you don’t care about attracting men.” That was true as well, none of the boys or men I had met in my life interested me. It just seemed futile to even talk to men, most of them just wanted to mate or rule the world, and I wasn’t interested in either of those options.
