Chapter 15

1133 Words
Klara woke up with heavy headache. She realized that saying she didn’t do anything wrong would only make the matter linger, and that even her own parents would find it difficult to believe her with those photos so she didn’twant to put them in such situation of being turn between believing her or not. She looked at herself in the toilet mirror after peeing and saw that her eyes were swollen. The church service was supposed to be by 10am, but since there would be no wedding anymore, she sat on her bed waiting for the time to get to 7am so she can go to Micheal’s room and plead with him not to tell their parents what happened last night because her mum is hypertensive and the news might cause harm to her health. They can tell them that they realized they were not really in love but was pressured by their families. It hurt her to think this way but that was the only thing she could come up with. As she was still lost in thoughts, she heard a knock on the door, she opened it and saw Mark, “good morning Mark” she said awkwardly. She had never thought she would ever feel this way with Mark. “Good morning Klara, Micheal wants to meet with you in his room” Mark said. “Oh, okay, I will be right there, let me put on something appropriate” she said and closed the door. When she got to Micheal’s room on the second floor, she hesitated before she knocked on the door. The door opened with Micheal standing there. “Hi, good morning” Klara said forcing a smile. “Come in” Micheal said indifferently as he moved away from the door into the room. She entered the room and closed the door behind her. She stood at the middle of the room holding her fingers together so nervously and looking at Micheal who was sitting on the edge of his bed. She felt awkward, guilty and every other bad feeling one can think of even when she knew she was innocent. 'It’s not like you did anything wrong to be feeling this way Klara' she reprimanded herself inwardly. “Sit” Micheal said as he gestured with his head for her to sit on a chair beside the wardrobe. They just turned strangers overnight, they used to be lovebirds who could not keep their hands to themselves whenever they were together. She went to the chair and sat down. “I called you here to discuss the way forward, I slept over this matter as Mark advised and gave a deep thought to it, then I realized that our parents will be hurt the most by your promiscuity” he said in disgust. Klara swallowed hard, “I…I didn’t…” but was cut short before she could even make a sentence. “I don’t need your opinion Klara, I don’t want to hear anything from you, you have clearly lost the right to that. I just called you here to tell you my mind on this issue. So listen and don’t utter a word except you are asked to” Micheal retorted. Klara bit her lips and nodded while fighting back tears. “In order to save our parents the shame and disappointment that your actions could have caused, I have concluded that we are going to go through with the wedding” he said. He saw the shock in her eyes when he glanced at her. “We will get married today. Of course to the society and everyone around us, we will be married and seem like the perfect married couple; but to me, you are just a flat mate and nothing more” Micheal said sternly. Klara looked down at her intertwined fingers in heartbreak. Even though she was surprised by his change of mind to go through with the wedding, she had never imagined they could live in the same house as strangers. But she was still happy because she thought that living with him in the same house would give her the chance to prove her innocence to him. “Hmmmm” Micheal cleared his throat which brought her back to reality. “This is why I called you, so go prepare for the wedding, put on some smile and try as much as possible not to alert anyone on what happened. I trust you can do that, after all pretense is your specialty” he said mockingly. She swallowed so hard without saying anything. She had a lot to say but none of them will help, besides she was told not to say anything. “Do you have anything to say?” he asked while glaring at her. “N-no, nothing” she whispered and shook her head still fighting back her tears from dropping. “Good, now if you would excuse me, I have a wedding to get ready for because today was supposed to be my wedding day” he said sarcastically while standing from his bed. “Oh, ok” she said as she stood up and left the room. On her way to her room, Klara didn’t know if she should be happy or sad about the turn of event. She was glad he didn’t cancel the wedding like she thought he would, but this man who is the love of her life has turned to a stranger and something else she didn’t understand, something scary. “Cheer up and prepare for the wedding Klara, love will surely win in the end” she said to herself as she forced a smile on her face. “Where have you been? The makeup artist is here already, the stylist is here, everyone is here waiting for you! I tried calling you but you left your phone in the room! Do you want to be late to the church service?” Ada screamed in frustration when she saw Klara enter the room. “I’m sorry, I’m so sorry, I went to Micheal’s room to discuss something important” she pleaded. “And this important something cannot wait till tonight?” Ada teased as she gestured with her fingers, emphasising on the 'something'. 'If only you know' Klara thought as she faked a smile. “Oh no, the makeup artist has a lot of work to do to conceal those eye bags. What happened, didn't you get enough sleep last night?” Ada asked when she saw Klara’s swollen eyes. Klara smiled, “calm down my friend, you are always so hyper. Where are they? Let’s start so as to finish on time for the church service” she said as she entered the bathroom for a quick bath.
