Forced Fate
"Emily, we need to talk to you about something crucial," her father said, his voice laced with a mix of guilt and determination.
"What is it, Dad?" Emily asked, her intuition sensing something was amiss.
"Your mother and I have made a decision about your future," he continued, his eyes avoiding hers.
"What decision?" Emily pressed, her heart beginning to race.
"You're going to marry the alpha," her mother interjected, her voice soft but firm.
Emily's eyes widened in shock. "What? No, I can't! I don't even know him! And he's a wolf, for crying out loud!"
"Emily, please understand—" her father began, but she cut him off.
"You're doing this because of the treaty, aren't you? Because of the war between humans and wolves? You're using me as a pawn to secure peace!"
Her parents exchanged a glance, and her mother's voice was barely above a whisper. "We had to make sacrifices, Emily. You were the price of peace. The alpha demanded a human bride, and we...we agreed."
Emily's anger and hurt boiled over. "So, I'm just a bargaining chip? A tool to keep the wolves from attacking us again? You're sacrificing me for the sake of peace?"
Her father's face hardened. "You'll do as you're told, Emily. You'll marry the alpha and ensure our family's safety and the peace between our species.".
Emily's world crumbled around her as she stormed into her room, the weight of her parents' decision crushing her. She felt like she was living in a nightmare, trapped in a reality she couldn't escape. Her eyes, red and puffy from crying all night, reflected the anguish in her heart.
"How could you do this to me?" she sobbed, her body shaking with grief. Her mother's attempts at comfort were rebuffed, her father's explanations falling on deaf ears. Emily felt like a pawn in a game she didn't understand, a sacrifice in a larger political landscape.
She collapsed onto her bed, the tears flowing like a river. Her mind raced with thoughts of the alpha, the wolf she was destined to marry. What was he like? Would he be kind or cruel? The uncertainty was suffocating.
As the night wore on, Emily's sobs subsided, replaced by a numbness that spread through her like a shroud. She felt like she was losing herself, her identity consumed by the fate that had been imposed upon her. The darkness closing in around her, Emily wondered if she would ever find a way to escape the shackles of destiny. With a heavy heart not knowing when she slept off.
