The newly fated pair awoke to Derek banging on the door which Eva sneakily locked the night prior.
“Jasper! You better not be in there! We talked about this last night!”
Slowly she opened her eyes. Jasper was panicking. To his horror Eva hopped out of bed and opened the bedroom door.
“Hi dad, don't worry. Nothing happened,” she said with disappointment.
Derek glared at her, noticing what little clothing she had on before his angry gaze fell upon Jasper.
“Alright, we are going to have to set some boundaries. As of right now you need to get ready for school,” Derek said to his daughter while doing his best to hold back the growing rage. “And Jasper, get your ass out of here now!”
“This is rediculous," Eva retorted.
Jasper retreated from her bed. Keeping his head down he left without saying a word. Knowing Derek was unhappy did not sit well with him but it was impossible to fight the need to be near his fated.
As soon as the men left, Eva went to the adjoining bathroom to ready herself. It was her senior year yet she despised everything about it. Being what she was Eva did not see the need for common education. She had also been bullied over the last year and a half after a dark turn of events. She made the decision. Instead of spending another day learning useless information, she would go to her favorite spot to contact the spirit who started her on the path of darkness.
Arriving at the abandoned café covered in zigzag engravings, she entered. Finding a dusty table in the back of the decrepit building, Eva sat down and began arranging an assortment of items she collected from Jasper.
Jasper's biological father, Joe, had nearly killed Eva's parents and successfully took her own biological father’s life when she was only three. He was obsessed with spreading destruction and despair- darkness. It was Derek and Ana who finally put a stop to his deranged scheme when their love overpowered him, taking his remaining lives. His power originated from death caused as a direct result of his actions. The warlock learned if he were to die he would come back even stronger. It was not permanent and could only use this method six times before he would not reincarnate. After much devastation and loss, Eva's parent’s light power stemming from their love defeated Jasper's father with such force he lost his two remaining lives subjecting his soul to the endless afterlife.
12 years prior while Eva was contacting her biological father, Jasper asked if she would try to speak to his own. While there was no love lost when his father passed, witnessing Eva get a second chance to bond with her father made him want try with his. He hoped the permanent trip to the afterlife made his father reconsider his actions. Jasper never had the chance to find out because after that day she shut him out.
Eva sat at the table closing her eyes. Under one hand was a grimoire belonging to the departed warlock while in the other she held a strand of her fated love's hair which was gathered the night prior. Within her mind Joe's spirit came to her.
“Hello, sweet Eva. Look how much you've grown. How is the darkened path treating you?”
“Did you know?” Eva replied leaving no room for small talk.
“No, it was a surprise to me as well and this does change things. I do not want my son joining you as you take over my mission. While your parents will not harm you I do not doubt they would do to my son what they did to me. In order to fulfill the tasks I showed you before, you cannot let anyone know what you are doing. My son has seen your darkness but unless you want to be subjected to my wrath you will do as I say. Make him believe you are growing light within your heart. Once all is said and done, he will understand."
“My parents love him as their own child. They would never harm him. He is powerful and if both our hearts are adjoined by darkness we could be even stronger than my parents. You are dead. How would you hurt me?”
“That may be the case but I will not risk my son’s lives. Do you not remember who I am? I can do things you cannot imagine and I strongly advise you to heed my warning. You are now my daughter as you are fated to my son so I would prefer not to harm you. Keep Jasper out of it. If that changes I will let you know. Goodbye Eva.” The dark warlock severed the link.
Eva was not happy with the advice given by her mentor. Jasper was a key component. Together they would succeed in overtaking the light just as it had been for her parents to defeat the darkness. She needed his power but more importantly his love from the heart she planned to darken with her own.
