Prologue
Eliza chose the Highlands as the location of their first out-of-town trip because it had the most romantic overseeing view. She was about to marry her first love. Skye had always been nonchalant about these things. Even with the wedding preparations ongoing, he had not been interested in getting involved. Sometimes, she was tempted to ask if he truly wanted to get married. She would change her mind about asking because Skye would readily be available whenever she would ask him for help or to come fetch her from a shop after she had gone window shopping. Also, Kylie, her bestfriend and maid of honor had been helpful and kind to help her fill in the gaps.
In short, this was their first trip alone as a couple. She was nervous because she was certain this night would be different from the other nights they had spent together out of town.
Skye slept through the morning and afternoon so they had to stay at the hotel. She was able to watch at least two movies while waiting for him to wake up. Then at one point, she decided to lie with him in bed. She rested her head on his shoulder and laid a hand on his other shoulder. She slowly felt his chest along the way that she felt the slow beating of his heart.
He woke up.
"What time is it?" He asked, moving about that she had to get away from him.
"Five or six, I guess." Eliza responded. "Didn't you sleep last night? You slept so soundly as if it was nighttime."
"Sorry, it's been stressful at work lately." Then he yawned.
"We only have this afternoon and tomorrow morning. We're going to have to go home before noon."
"Sorry…but that means we still have plenty of time, don't we?"
Eliza smiled, nodding. Then Skye did the one thing that would change her mind about everything that was supposed to irate her. He pulled her in with a hand behind her neck and kissed her. Eliza couldn't help smiling. Skye was always like this with her. It was not merely his lips touching hers. There was pressure and assurance he knew what he was doing. Also, he would pull her in with an arm on her back and a hand on her neck, and the world around them would fade.
Only this time, he had moved across her lips that they had to separate and he pushed his tongue into her mouth. Eliza let out a gasp at the sudden intrusion. Skye hadn't stopped and probably didn't have to intention to if Eliza had not pulled back and said, "Wait. That's enough."
Skye only groaned, pulling her close to him with his arms wrapped around her.
Eliza pulled away and pushed lightly to bring in a space between them. "Wait!" She exclaimed. This was a dangerous pose. This would obviously lead to another thing. "I need air," she excused and moved his arms to free herself and to get up from the bed.
She walked to the small coffee table in between two couches on the corner of the room. On it was a tray of teacups and kettle. She brings the kettle to the small pantry on the side to make tea.
Skye followed her and sat on one of the chairs. "Is there coffee?"
"I packed some. Do you want some?"
"Yes, please," he said.
Eliza loved the Highlands. It was one of the places she dreamed of going to with Skye because the first time she had been there, it had a romantic feeling. She had found it the same even after it had been years ago. The only difference was that the time they had been spending in it so far had not been as romantic at all.
They went to the clubhouse in the compound. There was a swimming pool and a playground for both children and adults. Skye made a beeline to the monkey bars and started to try out twirling around it. He had one failed attempt and two missteps when he did. Eliza couldn't help laughing, and she expressed her being impressed with his hobby in the past. Skye had confessed to loving physical activities, and he emphasized having aced all activities in physical education classes.
Eliza wore a rash guard on top of her swimsuit. Skye was not fond of swimming but was fond of seeing beautiful women, like Eliza, in a swimsuit. He was also not very fond of the rash guard, but he wouldn't like to see sunburned skin either.Eliza had pulled him into the pool. Skye considered himself a swimmer even though he wasn't fond of swimming. He was a natural when he had gone into the water probably given to his innate interest and love for physical activities. He particularly liked how Eliza kept tugging at him and getting into his arms as he teased getting away from her.
He had always found Eliza so cute. While she was someone he wouldn't want to approach from a distance, she looked so right when in his arms. He was okay with being with her. He liked it a lot that she had been outspoken about how much she liked him. He somehow felt so special, which was something he never experienced with any other person in his life. Overwhelmed with his thoughts and feelings, he drew her face close to kiss her.
It had not been the first time for them to kiss but it always felt like it was their first kiss. The last couple of months had been a rollercoaster ride for Skye. It was elating, thrilling, and too fast to conceive to be good for him. He always felt like everything about her and them was too good to be true. His mind would be racing most of the time, but whenever he looked at her, everything would quiet down and become still. While he found it doubting, their relationship felt more real than any of the relationships he ever had in his life.
He brushed away hair stands from her face to reveal her rosy cheeks. Skye always felt satisfied in his heart by having her around. If someone would ask him what it meant to have found "the one", he might describe exactly how he felt being with her.
"Let's have dinner? I feel hungry," Eliza whispered. Skye stared at her for some time before nodding and smiling back at her. "Yeah, sure." He said, and he let her go.
Despite her previous admirers being more vocal about their interest in her as compared to Skye, he was as clear as a day with his intention when he said, "Can I call you my girlfriend by now?" It was the happiest day of her life. She had grown up with Skye around, and she had dreamed to be the woman who could stay by his side forever. To hear him utter these words was more than anything she asked for.
He had cherished her. He made sure she knew and understood how special she was in his life. She would fall in love all over again every time he helped her with her bags, helped her up her seat, assisted her when she would sit, and other gestures. Sometimes she felt as if she had been dreaming.
Skye, as usual, adjusted one seat so she could sit before he took another seat. He had shifted in his seat so he was facing her, and she felt his knee leaning on her thigh. If another man had been doing this, she would have moved away, but this was Skye, and so she remained in her position.
She stared at him through the edge of the menu board she had been pretending to look at. He had a milky skin she adored in young men and envied in young women. Skye looked back at her, and so she moved her eyes back to the menu board.
