Chapter 3 - Hurts like hell

1123 Words
Hurts like hell Elizabeth It’s midnight, and the stars are shining brightly against the sky. As I am wearing my nightgown, standing in the place where I last saw King Jeorne.  The eerie darkness of the night would never escape my memory. The pitch-black curtain draped over the sky and the twisted, warped shapes that the stars made against the blackness. The milky speckles twirled and danced along the sky in various patterns, tugging at the corners of my lips in a way that almost made me smile. It was hard to shove aside the worries corrupting my mind, but eventually, I stopped walking over the soft sand below my feet and just... stopped thinking. I was alone. Nothing from my life could touch me. Not a single thing could harm me. I stared up at the sky and studied the silver glow of the moon. “You just have a thing to be alone in the middle of the night, don’t you?”  I turned around to see Jehaerys walking closer to me. My heart skipped a beat. He’s wearing a white thin fabric, that makes his body visible and his toned biceps. His silver hair was tied behind his back. The shadow underneath his eyes tells me that he’s not getting proper sleep as much as I do despite the heat his eyes are holding. “Jehaerys,” I said in between of my breath. I sighed.  “Daemon has ended his relationship with Lady Katarina,” he said. I sighed, “He told me.” I said. “Do you know why?” I shake my head, “But, I do,” he mutters. “Perhaps, his father told him to do it. He’s always been an obedient son to His Majesty,” I said. “I bet he is,” he said. His voice was laced with sarcasm. He smirks. “Are you an obedient son to your father?” I c**k my head to one side. He nodded, His lips are wet, and with a hint of red. Flashes of memories of how his lips feel like against mine. Stop looking at his mouth, Elizabeth! My subconscious sneers at me. I sighed. When he came closer to me, I smell the faint scent of ale. Why is he drinking? “Are you drinking so you could sleep? My mother could give you a sleeping potion.” I mumbled. There was a small smile tugging at his mouth. But, it was not a happy smile I often see on his face. It’s more like a pain, covered with that awful mask. He shakes his head, “I drink to forget, Elizabeth,” he said. My chest tightens, and I’m suddenly out of breath. What could he possibly wanted to forget? He smiled down at me with love so intense it warmed my soul like a fireplace on a cold winter's night. And there I was, standing in front of him in the middle of the night to escape my life at home, not wanting to do anything but cry. But the look that the moon gave me didn't cause the storm to go on inside of me. Instead, a hot blue fire flickered in my heart and soon started to grow, eating at all of the dark emotions in its path. My worries burned away, and the tears that were starting to form at the corners of my eyes melted down my cold face with a rush of relief.  “And, was it successful?” I dare to ask. My eyes slowly turns to look at him. He chuckled. I smiled a little. “No. It made me even remember everything more.” he said. A tear was starting to form in his eyes. My heart started to beat faster, as I yearn to know what he wanted to forget. But, I know it’s not a good idea. “I have to leave,” I said, then I turned around. His hand grabbed my wrist, I turned to look at him. My eyes mirror the tears he has in his. “Elizabeth, what did you do to me?” he said. His voice break on the edge. A tear falls from my eyes, as my lips trembles, “I could ask you the same question, Jehaerys,” I mumble. He pulled me against him, my lips landed on his. It tangles with one another. He breaths in to me, I could taste the ale and mint in his mouth. He rises me, and I wrapped both of my legs around his waist. My arms tugs at his neck to support my weight. My heart beats with desire that matches his. Daemon’s face and my family suddenly flashed onto me, and I pulled away from Jehaerys. My feet meets the ground floor. I shake my head, tears fell on my cheeks. “I’m sorry, Jehaerys. But, I can’t.” I sobbed. “Why not?” his voice sounded desperate. “I swore to marry Daemon, and King Pol gave me nothing but comfort and convenience for my family. I owe him my loyalty and my obedience.” “We are both destined to marry someone else.” I added. “I don’t care, Elizabeth.” he said, his voice came out a sudden sharp. “I do, Jehaerys.” I said, flatly. “If the king learns about this, he wouldn’t hesitate to have my family executed. I’m sorry, Jehaerys. But, I can’t.”  Then I forced myself to walk away from him, and this foreign feelings I have in my chest. I know it’s false, because I shouldn’t have such feelings for the son of my enemy. But, I do. No matter how hard I tried to push it away, it keeps crawling back into my gut like a devil’s venom. My feet brought me to my mother’s chambers, and when I knocked, I was welcomed by her warm deep brown eyes. I wrapped my arms around her, as tears fell from my eyes. “Hush, sweetheart,” she hums. “Mother, forgive me. I don’t know what to do anymore. I tried to do the right thing, but destiny keeps pulling me back to evil.” I sobbed. Her arms are the safest place I have ever been. Despite the lies she told me, I know she is the only person I could trust. After all, she is my mother. I told her everything that brings me sorrow.
