TWO WORLDS, ONE FATE
Chapter 1: Two Worlds, One Fate The first rays of dawn stretched across Willow Creek Village, painting the endless fields in shades of gold. Roosters crowed from every corner, while a cool breeze danced through rows of fresh vegetables glistening with morning dew. A young woman knelt among the crops, carefully plucking weeds with dirt-stained hands. "Just a few more rows," she whispered to herself, wiping the sweat from her forehead. Her name was Aria. At twenty-three, life had taught her lessons no child should ever learn. She had lost both parents before she was old enough to understand what death truly meant. The only inheritance they left behind was a tiny mud hut standing beside a modest piece of farmland. While many pitied her, Aria never begged for sympathy. She believed that tears could not fill an empty stomach, but she had a fearless personality in the village. Every morning before sunrise, she tended her vegetables—tomatoes, peppers, okra, onions, and garden eggs. Whatever she couldn't eat, she sold at the village market. Whenever there was no farm work to do, she traveled nearly two hours to the city, where she worked as a cleaner in office buildings to earn enough money to survive. Life was hard... But giving up had never been part of her vocabulary. "Aria!" an elderly woman called from across the narrow footpath. Old Mama Grace balanced a basket on her head. "You're going to the city again today?" Aria smiled warmly. "Yes, Mama Grace. The vegetables are growing well after yesterday's rain, so I'll finish here and catch the morning bus." The old woman sighed. "You work too hard, child." "If I don't work," Aria replied with a playful grin, "who will feed me?" Mama Grace laughed before shaking her head. "One day your kindness will reward you." Aria only smiled. She had heard those words countless times. Rewards were stories people told to comfort the poor. An hour later, after washing the soil from her hands and changing into her faded cleaning uniform, Aria boarded the crowded bus heading to Ashton City. The journey was noisy. Passengers argued over seats. Children cried. Street vendors squeezed through the aisle selling roasted groundnuts and bottled water. Aria leaned against the window, silently watching the scenery change from dusty village roads to towering skyscrapers. Every trip reminded her how different the two worlds were. One struggled to survive. The other drowned in luxury. --- Far above the bustling streets of Ashton City stood the magnificent headquarters of Blackwood Holdings, one of the largest business empires in the country. On the top floor, inside a spacious office decorated with elegant wood, marble, and glass, stood Damien Blackwood. Tall, handsome, and impeccably dressed in a tailored charcoal suit, Damien carried himself with quiet confidence. To the world, he was the successful billionaire every magazine wanted on its cover. His companies stretched across construction, real estate, technology, hotels, and agriculture. Among his many investments were seven large parcels of land in Willow Creek Village—land he had purchased years ago with plans few people understood. He lived in a mansion with his family; Evelyn Blackwood, who happened to be his mum, Vivian Blackwood, her elder sister, and Sophia Blackwood, her younger sister. They all lived in the luxurious mansion known as “The Blackwood Mansion.” The Blackwood Mansion stood like a palace on the hill, surrounded by manicured gardens, sparkling fountains, and a fleet of luxury cars. Crystal chandeliers illuminated every hallway, while priceless paintings decorated the marble walls. Yet behind the grandeur, peace had long abandoned the Blackwood family. Damien's eyes lacked the happiness money was supposed to buy. But on the other hand, his mother enjoys showing off the family's wealth. His elder sister, married to an opportunist, is always secretly discussing their laid down plans on how to earn Damien's fortune, and his younger sister, who is at university, is also dating an opportunist who constantly spends her money recklessly and attends parties to squander money. A knock interrupted his thoughts. "Come in," he said calmly. His personal assistant stepped inside carrying a tablet. "Good morning, sir. The board meeting begins in thirty minutes. You also have lunch with the foreign investors before your evening charity gala." Damien glanced at the schedule before closing the tablet. "Cancel the gala." The assistant blinked. "Sir?" "I'm not in the mood." "But the press has already been invited." "Then let them write that I was absent." The assistant lowered his head. "Yes, Mr. Blackwood." After he left, Damien slowly loosened his tie and stared out at the glass wall overlooking the city. Hundreds of people hurried below. Each chasing another day. Each believed tomorrow was guaranteed. He gave a faint, bitter smile. Not everyone had that luxury. --- By late afternoon, Aria finished cleaning the final office on the fifth floor. Her supervisor handed her a small envelope. "This is your weekly pay." Aria thanked him before carefully placing the money inside her old handbag. She mentally divided it before she even left the building. Some would buy seeds. Some would pay for bus fare. The little that remained would buy food. Nothing more. Nothing less. As she stepped outside, dark clouds rolled across the sky. Within minutes, heavy rain poured over the city. People rushed for shelter. Aria laughed softly. "So much for getting home dry." She removed her sandals and began walking barefoot through the rain. Not because she enjoyed it... But because replacing worn-out shoes was more expensive than washing muddy feet. Several pedestrians stared at her. Some laughed. Others whispered. Aria ignored them all. She had survived worse than strangers' opinions. Just as she reached a busy intersection, a loud screech echoed through the air. A little boy had run onto the road chasing his red football. A black luxury sedan sped toward him. People screamed. "Watch out!" Without thinking, Aria threw her bag aside and sprinted into the road. She grabbed the terrified child and rolled across the wet pavement only seconds before the car stopped with a deafening screech. Silence fell. The little boy burst into tears and hugged Aria tightly. "Thank you," he sobbed. Aria smiled and gently wiped the rainwater from his face. "Next time, don't chase your ball into the road." She picked up the muddy football and handed it back to him. Only then did she notice the driver stepping out of the expensive black sedan. He was tall. Elegant. Calm despite what had just happened. Their eyes met. For one brief moment... Everything around them seemed to disappear. The rain. The traffic. The shouting crowd. Neither of them spoke. Neither of them looked away. It was as though fate had quietly introduced two people from completely different worlds. A world of wealth... And a world of survival. Neither Aria nor Damien knew that this unexpected meeting would soon change not only their lives—but also the destiny of everyone connected to the Blackwood family.
