She had survived the ride, which was great. I honestly didn’t know what Derek would think of her, but he really owed me. He seemed transfixed with her, which I could see why. But if he became too attached to her, then my plan would not work. I needed to gain her trust. She seemed to trust me a little each time.
“Derek, you sure you don’t mind looking after her for a while?” I asked him again.
