Chapter 1

580 Words
I open my eyes and lie staring at my ceiling for a few minutes before glancing at the clock only to realize it's barley 4AM, meaning I've only been asleep for roughly four hours. Groaning I roll over and jerk the covers over my head as I try desperately to go back to sleep. Thankfully after tossing and turning for about fifteen minutes or so, I drift off into a restless sleep. At 8AM sharp my alarm starts blaring and lures me from my comfy bed with the promise of strong coffee and fruit for breakfast. I drag myself out of bed and head for the master bathroom for a shower. By 8:15 I've showered and shaved and head out to get into my work clothes. I work at a call center, so there isn't a uniform, it’s just business casual so I usually go with a black skirt with a tucked in white dress shirt, light jacket, and kitten heels. I typically wear black whenever I get the chance. It is, after all, my favorite shade of everything. Glancing in the mirror I notice the dark circles under my soft blue eyes. I stare at my reflection for a moment taking note of any changes, even subtle ones, though nothing seems to have changed. I'm still the same five foot one, short cut black hair with the right side shaved down short, small waist, I glance down at the front of my shirt yep those are still there. I chuckle to myself softly. Grabbing my purse and keys I head out the door at 8:30 which gives me enough time to stop at the café down the street and pick up a fruit bowl and a hot cup of their famous killer strong coffee. I walk out of my house and gaze lovingly at my new car. Technically it's a used car but it's new to me so it's a new car. Beautiful and gleaming black like a dark dangerous predator sits my Corolla. It's a Toyota Corolla Sport, and boy is it fast. As silly as it may sound this is my dream car, I finally found one for sale after about three years of hunting and knew I had to have it, so I bought it. Sliding behind the wheel I start the car and pull out heading to work. I arrive at work at 8:50 and am in my seat and clocked in by exactly 9:00. The day passes as usual repeatedly helping snobby, self-centered, egotistical,  self-entitled brats all day long. Now mind you, not all of the people I talk to are like that, but believe me, the majority… yeah.  9:00PM sharp I'm clocked out and ready to leave. As I log off my computer, Claire, a good friend of mine, comes over to my cubicle. "Hey girly, you leaving already?" I glance up and nod happily. She smiles "Me too, oh hey by the way, don’t forget the Halloween party here next week." I smirk at her "I LIVE for Halloween, do you really think I would forget?" Thinking for a moment she shakes her head ruefully. "I should have known you wouldn't forget, Mrs. Doom and Gloom." "Hey I am not doom and gloom. I just like strange things." I say with a chuckle. "If you say so." She shakes her head and throws me a wink before walking out the front door, I'm not far behind her.
