Her Birthday..
25th July, it was her birthday. Sarah woke up eagerly and jumped out of the bed and looked lovingly at the sleeping figure of Anthony, her husband. Anthony was tall; sharp featured, well built and an intelligent man. His intense brown eyes and arrogant attitude seemed to add a different charisma to his good looks.
Anthony Smith, a talented and hard working architect who managed to built a construction company which became one of the fastest growing construction company of Massachusetts in a short spun, was an arrogant man who never appreciated the love he received from Sarah, his wife. Though they had been married for the past 7 months , they had known each other for 8 long years. But Sarah was head over heels in love with him since their college days. They first met when they had joined MIT to pursue a degree in architecture.
Sarah tried her best to keep him happy by taking care of him and his beautiful house. Yet he kept failing to appreciate her love. She left her career as a landscape architect in one of the leading landscaping construction firm of New York and moved to Boston so that she could be with Anthony and support him in his venture.
When Sarah's eyes fell on his well sculpted bare chest, she gulped her moan. "God why this arrogant man has to be so handsome. So unfair" she thought. She placed a light kiss on his cheek and stared lovingly at him and wished silently “You better remember my birthday this time, husband". Leaving him asleep she hopped downstairs to the kitchen.
Tying her hair into a ponytail ,Sarah prepared mint coffee for herself. Taking her coffee cup she walked bare foot on her lovely garden, admiring her design. As she stood in her garden looking at her beautiful house which was designed by Anthony, she smiled to herself and thought “What a beautiful sight. A contemporary structure adored by a beautiful Zen garden just like me and Anthony. Our designs are just like us, complementing each other". Having thoughts of her husband she remembered it was time for him to wake up and quickly went inside to prepare breakfast for him.
She quickly made batter for pancake, fried bacon, sausages and prepared scrambled eggs and toasts. As she was laying the food on the table she remembered how she used to hate cooking before marriage and what a tomboy she used to be before meeting Anthony. "God, love changed me completely" she blushed as she thought about it.
She heard footsteps from the stairs and saw Anthony descending down buttoning his shirt. He was dressed in white shirt and Prussian blue trouser, while his waist coat hanged in one arm. His subtle beard and tissot watch were enough to make any woman drool over him. But he was one of those rare kinds who preferred to be a noted successful man than to be known as a famous lady's man. He cursed whenever girls tried to make a pass at him or tried seducing him. Even when Sarah drooled over him he would get irritated. In short he was a complete unromantic millionaire.
As he came near, Sarah’s heart started to beat faster as if she was seeing him for the first time. She wondered how this man still had the powers to make her go weak in the knees. She was anticipating a kiss but it never came, instead she heard him say "Where is my coat? Can’t you keep it together with the rest of the set? Why are you so unorganized?" he asked irritably.
There he goes. He and his OCD. Sarah sighed. "Sit and have your breakfast. I will get your coat" saying that she rushed to their room but was back within a minute with his coat.
"Please try not to irritate me with your silly mistakes every now and then. And don’t wait for me for dinner. I will be late and besides I will have dinner with the Japanese clients" he said while browsing his iPhone.
"OK bring it on. I know you are planning a surprise for me. Act as much as you can ", Sarah thought to herself but without revealing her excitement she said “OK. Good luck for your meeting".
He grabbed his coat and left her hurriedly as he got a call from his P.A. It seemed to be an emergency.
"Didn’t even kiss me" , she frowned to herself as she watched him drive his Audi A8 away. She felt a pang of sadness but instantly got excited as she thought “Oh you are going to play this ignore game, husband. Well your surprise better be good then. "
Relationships are about accepting the thorns along with the petals. It’s about seeing an imperfect person perfectly.
