4. Hockey Faces

Chapter 4: Hockey Faces Sylvia's pov. I stood in the pack house amongst others and listened to the argument between the alpha and some patrol members. “Someone slipped through your team and gained entry into our borders, do you have any idea how that sounds?” The alpha was enraged. The team however were disappointed in themselves with their head bowed. “So much so the humans had to investigate which only makes the situation worse for us,” Alpha Jonathan could strangle them but he held himself back. The team leader apologised but the damage was already done. I, however, contemplated whether or not to relate the information that I had seen the said wolf they spoke of, but fought against it. It would only implicate me if I told them about him. They would probably start to ask questions like; what was I doing in the woods? Then, they will probably suspect that I was working with him. It wouldn't take long before they accuse me of betraying the pack, something they are so quick to do. I realised, I didn't even know his name, or what he looked like as it was rather dark that night. Nor did I know what the humans wanted with him. We had only chatted briefly. “We would have to speed things up,” The alpha continued, for a split second. I thought he was looking at me, I thought someone was, but when I glanced around, no one seemed to pay me any mind. Alpha Jonathan entered a light stroll, “They have already been enrolled, make sure everything goes as planned, I would speak to the government body when they get here, they leave today.” It would seem we don't have a choice anyway. After my work at the pack house, I returned to the hospital to the shocking scene of my mother and brother being evicted, “What's going on?” A frown etched on my features. “You were supposed to make a deposit, it's already been a few months now.” I promised them that I would get the payment but it never came, my boss cut it down after I skipped a few days, I had to get food with the rest for us to eat, the packs allowance didn't really do much either. Without any other choice, I took both of them home. We stayed together in the cramped space But we were together. I didn't want to inform my mother about the Alpha's decision but it seems someone already did. “You need to go,” “I don't have to go anywhere, I'll try and speak with them...” I was cut off sharply, “You know that's not going to work, plus this is an opportunity for you to pursue your dreams.” My dreams can wait mother, you can't. “I know you are here for me and your brother, but we can't keep holding you back Sylvie,” she struggled to get up on her feet and I rushed over to support her, “My darling girl.” Tears brimmed at the corner of her eyes as she stared at me with so much pride and contempt, “I am so proud of you, for taking care of us.” A lump formed in my throat as I squeezed her hands back, “Mom, c’mon.” She shook her head and continued, “I want you to know how proud I am of who you are, and your father would be even prouder, know that, always remember that we both love you.” The next morning we were on our way to the school. I promised, once I got a schedule, I would work my way around it, get a job and visit home as often as possible. We arrived quickly with no further information from the alpha other than to blend in, stay out of trouble, keep our ears open for any information, and make sure to keep our secrets safe. After grabbing my schedule, I broke off from the others, this was a new start, I didn't want to have to be surrounded by them. Students seem to be running down the halls headed somewhere, I didn't know what but following in confusion, “What's going on?” I pulled at a girl. “It's the hockey team, they're at it again, c’mon, let's go,” she grabbed my hand and pulled before I could reject her offer. Her ponytail bounced behind her as we arrived at the ring which was already packed by screaming fans but this girl seemed to know her way and we were by the edge of the pitch in no time. The girl bubbled close to me, cheering for them, “OMG, the new guy is so hottt, I saw him before the game in the locker room by accident.” The look in her eyes told me it wasn't by accident. The guys seemed to play on the pitch and it seems to be getting a little rough, or maybe that's just how the game worked, I didn't really know. When the first team scored, the crowd went wild and the players took off their helmets. The hot guy she spoke of?? Isaac?? He flashed a smile at the crowd which made the girls swoon. However my gaze shifted to the other team member who didn't seem contempt that they had lost, took off his helmet. My heart stopped, eyes glued on him, doubting if this could really be possible, and then I saw it, the ying pendant. It was the guy I met in the woods a few days ago. How the bloody hell was he even here?
