Chapter 44Monroe County's first courthouse, built in 1822, had the site donated by Nathaniel Rochester. The $7,000 building sat in a brick building with a belfry, and a large bell used as a fire alarm and was located on the corner of Fitzhugh and Main. Eventually the swelling city outgrew the one courthouse, and two more were erected. Eventually, in 1963, The Monroe County Hall of Justice opened on Exchange at the Civic Center Plaza. The Hall of Justice housed the Seventh Judicial District, as well as Supreme, County, City, Family, and Surrogate courts. With the pending viable threat, Lieutenant Garcia spearheaded the additional security at the courthouse coordinating with the sheriff, deputies and police officers.
