Chapter 46He hung up the payphone. Nothing had gone as planned. Well, that wasn't exactly true. At first things had plodded along smoothly. The cop on the pier ruined things. He was always going to keep coming back to that, but the idea of sneaking into the hospital to finish the job was daunting. Unpractical, and daunting.
Having seen enough movies, he pictured a uniformed officer posted outside of the hospital room. He wasn't an i***t. An actual officer wasn't going to be sound asleep, or easily distracted. There were cameras everywhere inside a hospital. He wasn't done with Andrew Maxwell. Far from it. The retired cop would still get what was coming to him, if only out of order. Small price to pay if he was able to cross out everyone on his list before it was all over.
