As I turned to leave, I felt a hand on my arm again. This time, it was Tristan. "Rhain, wait," he said, his voice low and urgent.
I turned to face him, trying to shake off his grip. "Let me go, Tristan. I need to get out of here."
Tristan's eyes narrowed. "Not until you listen to me. Bella is not someone to be trifled with. She's been obsessed with me for years, and she won't take kindly to you getting in the way."
I rolled my eyes. "I'm not interested in you, Tristan. You're my boss, and that's it."
When Tristan heard what I said his expression turned cold again. "We'll see about that," he said, before releasing my arm and turning away.
I watched him go, feeling a mix of emotions: fear, annoyance, so I walked out to my car.
So, I drove home, parked my car in the parking lane, and walked inside my house.
I slept fitfully, my mind racing with thoughts of Tristan Belcher and the mysterious events of the previous night.
I couldn't shake the feeling that something was off, that there was more to the story than I was being told. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, I drifted off into a deep sleep.
The next morning, I woke up feeling refreshed and determined. I knew I had to get to the bottom of the mystery, and that meant confronting Ms. Vera at the Werewolf Hunting organization.
I got out of bed and began to get ready for the day, my mind focused on the task ahead. I showered, dressed, and had a quick breakfast before heading out the door.
As I walked to the organization's headquarters, I felt a sense of purpose. I was going to demand answers from Ms. Vera, no matter what it took.
I arrived at the building, a nondescript office complex in the heart of the city. I took a deep breath, steeling myself for what was to come.
I pushed open the door and walked inside.
I was no longer just a pawn in someone else's game; I was taking control of my own destiny.
I marched into Vera's office angrily. She couldn't get her information right, and now I'm wrapped in a web of working for the wrong man.
“I guess I didn't check properly before sending you over there, but nevertheless you have to do it, get every single detail about them and do it quickly.” She'd said before I left her office.
I got into the cab because my car had a fault and sat comfortably as it drove along the road. Tonight,I'd be working with my boss for the first time after working for almost three weeks without him and the last time she saw him was after the party. I scoffed and shook my head. Foolishly, I thought I'd be working in proximity with Tristan but it seemed he had other plans.
“Thanks for the ride.” I said to the cab driver before getting out of the cab. I looked around the premises, my senses on alert because I knew someone might be watching, and I wouldn't know about it.
I pulled my dress higher and walked towards the electric gate, my eyes scanning the fence. Of course, CCTV cameras were installed.
“Hello, I have a meeting with Mr Belcher.” I said, moistening my lower lip as my eyes connected with the security guard. He looked really huge and would ___
“You may go in.” He said, interrupting my thoughts.
I smiled and nodded, feeling a sense of relief that I had made it past the first hurdle.
As I walked through the gate, I couldn't help but feel like I was being watched. I glanced around, but saw nothing out of the ordinary. Shrugging it off, I made my way to the front door of the building.
As I entered, I was greeted by a sleek and modern reception area. The receptionist, a polished-looking woman with a friendly smile, looked up from her desk. "Can I help you?" she asked.
"I'm here to see Mr. Belcher," I replied, trying to sound confident.
The receptionist nodded and picked up the phone. "Let me just check with him." She dialed a few numbers and waited for a moment before speaking. "Yes, Mr. Belcher. Your guest is here." She listened for a moment before hanging up. "He'll see you now. Please, go on."
I nodded and made my way to the elevator. As I rode up to the top floor, my heart began to pound in my chest. What was I getting myself into? I thought back to Tristan's warning and Bella's strange behavior. Something wasn't right here.
The elevator doors opened, and I stepped out into a sleek and modern office.
Bella went out, "Mr. Belcher and the other directors are waiting for you,"she said, leading me to a large wooden door.
I took a deep breath and steeled myself for what was to come. What did Tristan want from me?
Why would he ask me his secretary to join him and Bella for their meetings. I asked myself as I took my final breath before stepping inside the office.
As I stepped inside the office, Tristan looked up from the papers on his desk, his eyes narrowing slightly as he took in my appearance. I could sense a flicker of surprise, but it was quickly masked by his usual calm and collected demeanor.
"Ah, Rhain," he said, his voice smooth as silk. "Thank you for coming."
I nodded, my eyes scanning the room as I took in the board of directors seated around the large wooden table. They all turned to look at me, their faces a mixture of curiosity and suspicion.
"Please, have a seat," Tristan said, gesturing to the empty chair at the far end of the table.
I walked over to the chair, feeling the weight of their gazes on me. As I sat down, I could sense the tension in the room. Something was off, and I couldn't quite put my finger on it.
"Rhain, I'm sure you're aware of why you're here," Tristan said, his eyes locked on mine.
No boss. I answered his question.
