Chapter IV

~ Rain The drive to Lucas' house was longer than I anticipated. His pack was further than expected. I took the risk of leaving my pack for a few days, in order to get away from everyone and everything. I knew what I was doing was completely idiotic and wrong, but I really didn't want to go back home and deal with more drama. I'm done with this. However, the idea of leaving the pack didn't agonize me as much as that I was going to the infamous Lycan Hill pack with my own will. All the stories I had heard stated that this pack barely had any visitor and was made up of rouges who previously expelled from their own packs. In most cases, it's a result of misbehaving or breaking a sacred law or rule. However, that guy seemed different as if he was never a rouge in the first place. He seemed elegant and knew what he was doing. I tried my best to convince myself that. "Is there something bothering you?" Lucas asked. "You seem uneasy." "No, there isn't." I lied. "How further is our destination." "We're almost there." He assured me. "Good." I stayed quiet for sometime, debating whether to ask him a question that has been on my mind for a while now or not. I decided he knew enough about me. It's only fair if I asked him the question I had on my mind as well. "Lucas?" I called, catching his attention. "Hmm." He hummed, not taking his eyes off the road. "What made you join Lycan Hill?" I asked, careful that my question didn't come of as rude. "Most people spread rumors about us when they didn't even spend a day in our pack." He started. "They spread it on assumptions. Nothing was actually proven." He defended his pack. "I was born in a different pack. We weren't the strongest nor the wealthiest, but we had enough money and decent warriors on our side. However, the pack was always in a state of war. Not only with other packs, but within itself as well." He admitted. "Why is that?" I decided to ask. "It's a long story... I'll tell you." He started. "The Alpha was so keen on finding his mate, that he didn't want anyone but her to be the Luna. He saved himself for only her, thus he had no children. He kept looking for her, but never found her. Everyone tried convincing him that his mate could have died long ago and that he's waiting for nothing and was wasting his life. They needed a Luna because a Luna is what keeps the pack together, however, he didn't listen. A few years later, he died and had no heirs to rule the pack. The beta was the one expected to rule after the Alpha's death, but the Gamma thought he was too weak to do it and that he should be the one to rule instead. No one agreed to that and decided to go by the book. If the Alpha died having no heir nor a Luna, then his title is passed to the Beta. That's what it said, but he was selfish. He really wanted to rule that he killed the Beta. People started getting suspicious of the commutative deaths. Naturally, their first suspect was The Gamma, yet they didn't have any actual proof to hold it against him, so no necessary measures was taken." He took a break for a couple of seconds before he carried on, "What he didn't know was that killing the Alpha to be the Alpha strategy will only influence other pack members with higher pack title to do the exact same thing." He sighed. "It turned into chaos. Alphas were killed occasionally and everyone was blaming the other while they tried proving their innocence. Many innocent people were executed for a crime they never committed. One of them was my friend. I knew him very well and he would never kill a rabbit, let alone his Alpha." He explained. "I'm sorry to hear that." I sympathized with him. He'd gone through a lot. "I wasn't expelled nor kicked out. I left my pack with my own will. I became a rouge for a couple of months before the Alpha of Lycan Hill found me and offered to join his pack. I gladly accepted." He continued. I was relieved a little after hearing that, but I also felt sympathetic towards him. He didn't have it easy. Suddenly, a thought occurred to me that he might be lying, but this time I was actually able to shrug it of easily. I believed him. The eyes are gates to one's soul and I could see in his dull grey ones that he was telling the truth. "How long ago did that happen? If you don't mind me asking." "Six years ago." He replied solemnly. I decided to change the topic and find something else to say since I could feel that he didn't want to talk about this anymore, but I couldn't find anything to talk about, so I stayed silent. I hated this silence. It only reminded me of Caleb and Stacey. Talking to Lucas took my mind oof things. Suddenly, Lucas pulled over, "We're here!" He said. I observed the building, it was spacious, but not that catchy. It was plain, lacking anything special about it. It had many balconies thus, many bedrooms. One... Two... Three... I started counting the balconies to find out that they were twenty five. I moved my gaze back to the building. It was a tall and was painted plain white, but still, it wasn't that bad. I wasn't complaining. It's not that I will live there forever. Plus, it would be very disrespectful to let any of this thoughts show on my face. Lucas opened the car door for me, snapping me back to earth. I got out and followed him inside the building. "I know it's not much, but I hope that you enjoy your stay here." He smiled. "Thanks," I smiled back. "Do you live here alone?" I proceeded to ask, although I kind of knew the answer to it. "No, other people live here with me. But don't worry. They all respect the privacy, and everyone has his separate room." He walked inside the building and walked up the stair having me following closely behind. "There is a lot of vacant rooms too, so you needn't worry about that either." Good! We reached one of the rooms. He opened the door and gestured for me to enter. I did as he said and flashed him a quick smile before closing the door. "If you needed anything don't be afraid to call." He stated. "You should go to sleep. I'll show you around the house when you wake up since you seem so tired at the moment." I thanked him again, really wanting to just go to sleep. "Good night, Rain." "Good night," I said before I actually shut the door. I sighed, taking off my makeup and washing my face in the small bathroom that I had joined with the room. I didn't have any clothes to change into, so I guess I had to sleep in that dress. I crawled into the bed that was for some reason not that comfortable and drifted into the deep slumber that I needed.
