Chapter XIV

~ Rain "Now, Rain." Samuel said out of the blue. "I have one condition." Great! He wouldn't give me this advice for nothing, would he? I wonder what he wants. "You have one hour to be back and if you are not, I'll be coming for your pack and I can assure you, it won't be pleasant." He threatened and I could feel the intimidation pouring through his words. It was a big risk letting me go alone on its own. He thought I might take the chance and escape my verdict. "Don't worry! I am not a coward." I stated. "I will come back for my verdict." "Good." He casually said, as if he was expecting that answer from me. I sent the message I had been composing to that person and waited for his reply. I had doubts Samuels plan would work, but not any longer than a minute later, that person replied and to my surprise, he actually agreed. I wonder what they wanted me so bad for. It was not like I would be gone forever. I would have come back eventually... I paused to re-think this. Would I have really come back? I decided to take off to reach the place we agreed on first and wait for him there. I knew that might be a bad idea, but I still went through with it, taking by Samuel's advice. I looked at the time to find out that it was almost midnight. Samuel would expect me to be back by 1:00 AM, I suppose. I promised him I would be back by that time, but I was not very sure if I could fulfill it. I was sure that they did not want to just talk, they must have something big they wanted to discuss otherwise, they would not have threatened my father. I was not sure whether Samuel missed this detail or just did not think much of it. I swear to God if Caleb was somehow behind all of this... I knew Caleb since I was a toddler and I know for a fact that he was not the type of person to do anything like that. He liked and respected my father and this attitude seemed mutual between the two of them, so last thing he would do was threatening to kill my father to get me to come back. However, after what I have recently witnessed, what he did with Stacey, made me think twice about all the good qualities I thought he had, especially that Stacey seemed to genuinely dislike him and the whole being in a relationship concept for some reason. In addition to that, she had been very openly about her distaste towards him it was like as if she was holding a grudge against him for quite some time. Caleb shared the same feeling towards her as well, so the fact that he cheated on me with her made me doubt if all this was true or if they were putting on a good act. Am I living a lie? I started questioning myself as I walked through the dark street making my way towards my new destination. I hoped I wouldn't stumble across any other member of this pack this late at night, considering all the rumors I hear and what most of them were before they joined this pack, it would not end well for me. I had to be careful and keep an eye on any creeper. For some reason, the streets were very empty and quiet at night, in contrast to my pack, the streets were very lively even in the middle of the night. People were not scared to go out at night since the police department always did their job perfectly we were all living safely, except for certain areas. They were called the black holes. Thieves, criminals and lawbreakers gathered at this area. Police did not go there often and warned the people to stay away from this area. Most of the crimes were committed in this area, for example, if a killer wanted to murder someone, he would lure him to the black hole and murder the victim there. The killer would not commit his crime in any other area, so not following strangers, specially, at night was something all parents would warn their kids of. However, the place I lived in with my father was somewhat close to the black hole, so my father made extra sure that I knew the dangers of staying later than 10:00 PM on the streets. My father cherished the house we had in this area for a reason that he did not tell me of. He thought I was too young to understand although I was technically eighteen years old now, but he still sees me as his baby. I don't blame him, though. I was the only one he had, considering, that his family was murdered when he was still a teenager. He went through many hardships and had a dark past, but he didn't speak much of it and I respected his privacy by not asking too much about it. However, one thing he did tell me was that the main reason that made him an officer today was that he never wanted what happened to him to be repeated again. I did not even know if he knew who the killers were or if he wanted revenge on them. They could be the ones threatening him. They might have come back to kill him too. This thought made me panic more than how I already was. I started running like a mad woman towards the destination. The street lights flashed on both sides of my vision as I frantically ran. There was no one around to see me in this state and I was thankful for it. I reached the destination a few minutes later. I quickly checked the place with my eyes. Looking around me, I was relieved to find out that I arrived before they did. But as soon as I was about to let my mind relax for a little I felt a pair of rough hands on my face. One of them covered my eyes and the other went down to my neck. Immediately afterwards, I felt a sharp object being pressed against my neck. It did not need a scientist to figure out that it was a knife. Maybe I was the victim after all, not my father...
