Chapter-7 Fearfull Evening

She heard a sound coming from the small basement in their house. She step by step moved towards the basement then she saw her mother coming out of the storeroom, she took a deep breathe looking at her mom.
“Mom “
she called her sweetly, Mary got shocked by her sudden voice, She turned around to see. it's Anna, Meanwhile, Anna came down and asked.
“Mom, What are you doing here?”
Mary hurriedly closed the door and put the lock, Nothing dear just putting some old, useless stuff in the storeroom uneasily answered her.
“Why you locked the door if it’s all useless stuff in there?” Mary ignored her question and moved forward taking the stairs up she asked.
“Come up Anna you must be tired let’s have a coffee."
Anna perplexedly looked at the locked door and came out of the basement”
She came to the dining table. Mary brings two cups of coffee and some homemade cookies, sat on a chair next to Anna.
“How was your day?" Mary asked to start a conversation.
"Very tiring day mom, company had a merger with B&B groups of the company." She answered sipping her coffee.
There will a new Company president joining us soon, lots of new information needs to be updated on the company’s website, so I have bundles of documents to type in, coming days going to be very tough for every employee.
Mary enjoying listening to Anna with a cup of coffee, Anna kept on talking and her mother sweetly looking at her different gestures.
Today Anna has so much to talk, Mary felt a warmth. Anna suddenly stops talking.
"Why did you stop?" Mary curiously asked.
"Nothing Mom it was all, excuse me I will go and change" with coldness in her voice she moved taking her bag and walked to her room.
She wanted to tell her mother about the dark shadow and the fear that troubling her again and again, but she doesn’t want her mom to get worried so she decided to fight her fear by herself.
She changed her clothes had a shower and thought of studying as per the time table. This time she couldn’t concentrate on her books. Flash of thoughts running in front of her, unknown caller, dark shadow, invisible follower, her face turned red because of fear, her heart flooded with the darkness she couldn’t take it anymore and hurriedly ran out of her room.
She saw her mom cooking dinner, she went close to her mom and started helping her with cooking.
"Roger will be back by tomorrow evening, before leaving for his company tour, he asked me to invite Mr Hamilton for dinner." Mary said to Anna while placing the dishes on the cooking top.
Anna's eyes sparkled, "Great, It been so long I met Aunt Hamilton," Anna warmily said.
Both had dinner together, Anna felt safe and loved being in her mother's company.
"Mom, hope u don't mind me sleeping with you tonight?"
Mary rubbed Anna's hairs. "silly girl, I love to sleep with you", She smiled and kissed her forehead.
"Thank you, mom, "Anna replied sweetly and hugged her mom.
"Let us finish this up fast and we will go to sleep," Mary said pointing towards the soiled dishes.
"yes, mom."
Both seem happy with each other.They finished all the work by 10:30 pm. Mary switched off the kitchen lights, both went to Mary's room.
