Prologue
It’s not worth it anymore. I have struggled and fought to stay here. I did everything that was asked of me and still, it was not good enough. I WILL NEVER BE GOOD ENOUGH! I kept to myself, I kept my head down and poured all my energy into my studies. I even took care of my parents when they wanted nothing to do with me. I could have told someone, anyone, about the way they treated me and all the things they forced me to do for money but I kept my mouth shut because, on some level of insanity, I still loved them and wanted to protect them, but it still wasn’t good enough.
WHY? WHY ME?
WHY DID THEY HURT ME?
WHY DID THEY LIE TO ME?
WHY DID THEY GAIN PLEASURE FROM MY PAIN?
But mostly, why was the only happiness I have ever known…..the only love I have ever felt….the only people to ever truly care about me be a complete…..lie.
“HAILEY PLEASE WAKE UP!” someone screamed
Is someone calling me?
“HAILEY WAKE UP PLEASE!”
I do not want to wake up. Leave me alone.
“Hey, open your eyes I’m here now. I won’t ever leave you; I promise.”
My favourite voice in all existence. The only one I would ever obey. But it is so hard, my eyes feel so heavy.
“HAILEY PLEASE, CALL THE AMBULANCE NOOOOOW!”
I swear someone is calling me but it’s just an echo now.
“Hailey my darling wake up. I want to see those jade gems of yours.”
He’s chuckling, I love it when he does that. Wait I can feel his warmth and smell his soul-soothing scent. I force my eyes open slowly despite them feeling so heavy and I’m met with the most beautiful set of eyes. The only ones to make my heart flutter accompanied by the cutest grin.
“There’s my girl.”
“Ryan.”
