DAVINA
There’s silence in the air and I tilt my head to the side, wondering what Horus is talking about. His brows are furrowed into a deep frown of concentration.
Jace who’s still behind me is as tense as the surface of a drum. “I don’t recognize the scents,” He says, “And I count seven different sets of footsteps.”
Horus sniffs the air, “Are they wolves?”
Jace’s voice is low, “Not all of them, just four at least. Their intent feels malevolent though. They want something.”
Huh, I wonder if Jace can sense their intentions because he’s an Alpha. Is that a special ability he has? From the way Horus listens to him I can tell he trusts his brother’s instincts.
Still I don’t want to deal with this when I’m so exposed. I feel vulnerable and overwhelmed with mistrust. I don’t like strangers. Whoever these intruders are I want to tear them apart. Bloodlust makes my vision turn hazy and red.
I pause and look down at my clenched fists. These aren’t just my emotions. They’re mixture of the two brothers as well. I really need to understand what my powers have triggered between the three of us.
While I process this, the brothers move to stand in front of me, side by side with their noses in the air.
“Uhmm…” I start to mumble, wanting to point out that I’m still very much naked and would like something to use to cover up before we meet these strangers that have them on edge.
I might as well be invisible from the way the twins ignore me. I clear my throat pointedly. I’m ignored again. The twins frown at the dense cluster of vegetation in front of us. I sigh and cross my arms with a surly expression. It seems my nudity is a minute detail compared to whatever it is that has them worked up.
I try to use my own meagre supernatural hearing and sense of smell to figure out what’s coming, but I can’t hear anything, just the rustling of leaves in the cool morning breeze, scuttling of rabbits and other furry creatures of the forest. Being an omega really sucks.
Silence stretches for a few beats. I’ve never been able to stay still for too long, I start to get restless. I was planning on escaping, this seems like a good a time as any to make a run for it…
“They’re here,” Jace growls.
Right on cue, the intruders appear. Three figures in black billowing cloaks with the hoods drawn up, flanked on either side by two wolves. How Horus was able to pick up their sounds is amazing, because they move so silently, if my eyes were closed I wouldn’t even know they were there.
The twins stand to their full heights, both tall and powerful, Jace with his long wild untamed hair and the Horus with shorter messy locks.
“Who are you?” Horus demands,
Jace crouches and snarls at them. The muscles of his back are bunched and tight.
One of the cloaked figures steps forward and throws back their hood to reveal the face of a stunningly beautiful woman with a septum piercing and full blood red lips.
She smiles at Horus without a trace of fear on her features. I think this is pretty audacious of her considering she looks like a toddler compared to his impressive height and frame.
“We are the Lunaris, a sect as old as the time of the Lycans Alpha Horus,” Her voice is light and airy, “And we’re here to take the omega you have in your possession.”
“Take?” Horus is rife with fury and I swear the air around us becomes heavier. “You think you can come into our territory and take something from us?”
I swallow as the hairs on my body stand straight. There’s no doubt that violence is about to take place.
What other omega do the twins have in their possession though? I wonder idly as I start to back away slowly. This is just the distraction I need, but my movements are sluggish and hesitant. I don’t want to leave the twins, the thought of being separate from them is torture.
“What omega do you speak of?” Jace asks.
The woman simply lifts her arm and points a thin well-manicured fingernail in my direction.
I blink a few times, me? The twins share a look and then turn to me, I’m still very naked and having all eyes on me makes my cheeks heat up. I cross my arms tighter over my chest.
“Don’t look at me, I don’t know who these people are!”
Horus mutters something under his breath and turns back to the group.
“She’s ours, what do you want with her?”
“She’s the child of prophecy, she carries the gift of the dark ones themselves. She’s the omega that will become the mega Alpha, purge the world of the stain of lesser beings and usher in a new era,”
There’s a sickening fevered pitch to her tone like she’s reciting lines from a holy scripture. She sounds like a fanatic. And she looks at me like she wants to gobble me up. I move instinctively closer to the twins. It’s a sad day when my captors appear to be a safer option.
“We’ve been watching you Davina Sinclair,” The woman says to me, “And we want to help you achieve your destiny, but first kill these two Alphas and come with us,”
I almost snort with derision. Kill these two powerful pyschos? Yeah right.
Jace rolls his neck, “The only person she takes orders from is us.” He gives his brother a side glance. “I’ve heard enough Horus, what do you say? Let’s kill these crazy people and take the little wolf back to the castle.”
Jace turns to me and gives me a very thorough once over, and his lips curl into a vicious wicked smile. In a husky voice he adds. “I have some unfinished business with her.”
My mouth goes dry. Okay so maybe the twins are not the safer option. But what’s a girl supposed to do? My powers have screwed me over big time and created some kind of bond to them. I can’t escape, even though I want to.
Jace takes a step forward in all of his buck naked glory, baring his teeth at the group, the wolves among them snarl back. Jace features contort, until his face turns the color of a ripe tomato. He then swears loudly.
“What is it?” Horus asks.
“I can’t shift!” Jace cries in frustration.
I wince. Oh yeah…I grimace with guilt, I forgot about the part where I drained his powers.
Jace swivels to look at me.
“She did this!” His anger is potent and a bit scary when directed at me.
I wilt like a dehydrated flower. “I was only trying to save myself, you can’t blame me for that,”
Horus shrugs.
“Undo it then, you can obviously see how important it is that we s*******r these annoying pests.”
I keep my arms firmly around my chest, still in the awkward position of trying to hide my sensitive parts from leering eyes. “I don’t know how!”
Horus’s lips press into a thin line and his eyes turn calculating and watchful. “We’re going to have a very long conversation after this,”
Why didn’t I run again?
“Just great,” Jace roars, “I have to be stuck in human form now?”
“Jace calm down,” Horus tries to warn his brother but Jace just releases a battle bellow and throws himself at the group.
I watch with horrid fascination. Even in his human form he’s a sight to behold, a beast on two legs possessing an alarming amount of brutal strength. He picks up one of the cloaked figures by the neck and snaps their neck with one swift movement.
Horus curses and moves, effortlessly dodging a wolf that swipes it’s claws at him and slamming his fist into the creature’s snout. Chaos ensues as the twins pummel their enemies to pulp.
The wolves in the group yelp and try to run away, and Jace releases a maniacal laughter and goes after them, disappearing into the woods. Horus is fending off one cloaked figures who seems to know how to fight, judging from the way he dances around Horus’s blows.
My legs are rooted to the spot. I’m not sure what to do.
A hand grips my shoulder. “You’re coming with me,” The woman with the septum piercing hisses.
Anger bubbles in the pit of my belly.
“You know I’m getting really tired of everyone behaving like I have no right to make decisions of my own,” I snap and shake off her hold on me.
I twirl with the intention to punch her in the face, but she evades my attack easily with a side step, her movement is fluid and graceful, and the momentum of my attempted punch propels me forward and I end up flat on my face.
I want the ground to open up and swallow me I’m so embarassed. Just a few minutes with the Alpha twins and I think I’m starting to behave like an all-powerful Alpha instead of the weak and puny omega that I really am. It must be because I can still feel their emotions and mistake them for mine.
I should’ve just used my power, but I’m scared of what will happen, I used it twice today and ended up in a very weird and awkward position with the twins.
I don’t want this strange lady getting all lustful and hot bothered with me. I roll over to my back and spit my hair out of my mouth time to come up with a plan that doesn’t involve getting abducted by these crazy-prophecy-spewing individuals.
The woman stands over me, a smirk on her lips. “You have no idea what you’re capable of Davina Sinclair, we’ve been watching you since your birth, waiting for your powers to grow, and now they have, our mistress will be so pleased.”
What does she know about my powers? I’ve kept them hidden all my life. Just who is this woman?
She raises her hand with a sharp blade in her grip. I thought she wanted to take me, not kill me is my last thought before the glinting steel descends straight for my neck.
