SOLD TO THE ALPHA TWINS
Davina
“You stupid girl!” My uncle cries out.
I flinch back, and the bucket of dirty water in my hand crashes to the ground. A low growl resounds from the back of my throat and my eyes flash an eerie blue.
My uncle leers at me.
“Go ahead, use those disgusting powers of yours. Let’s see the abomination that you are.”
Ouch.
His words sting. That word “abomination” has followed me all my life. I stare down at my hands which are shaking. My anger dies out like the flame snuffed from a candle and I shiver with cold.
I destroy and sap the life out of everything that I touch. I am a nobody. I remind myself.
Before I can escape from my uncle’s presence, a loud bang on the door that makes our rickety old cabin tremble to its foundations sounds.
“Open up! We know you’re in there Kristoff!” Harsh voices bellow from outside.
“By the blood moon!” My uncle swears and looks around desperately, “They’re going to arrest me. I still haven’t paid my debt to those wicked twins,” he moans, his face now drenched in sweat.
I sigh, no surprises there.
My uncle drinks and gambles away most of his earnings. If he could actually curb those stupid vices of his, maybe we’d be able to have a decent meal or scrounge up enough money to fix this house that’s falling apart.
“Quick Davina go to the door.” He shoos me with his hands.
“I don’t want to,” I respond,
A big mistake. My uncle only wants one answer to any order he gives. Yes.
Quick as lightning, his meaty fist lashes out and cuffs me on the cheek, and I crash to the floor painfully holding my hand to my stinging face. My inner wolf snarls in defiance, and I can feel the pull of my abominable magic wanting to surface and drain him until he’s a dry husk. I quell it down with great effort.
My powers are evil and should never see the light of day, ever.
My uncle towers over me, breathing heavily, his fangs flashing at me as his eyes take on a harsh blue glow.
“Do as you’re told, you useless girl!”
I stand and brush the dust off my faded brown dress and walk over to the door. Three hefty men stand at the threshold, all of them in the red color of the crimson pack, the enforcers of law and order in Feralia and betas of the Alpha twins, the benefactors of our city.
Just how much money is my uncle owing? I wonder.
“Where’s Kristoff?” One of the men demands.
My lower lip trembles. And my words come out shaky. “My uncle isn’t in sir. He stepped out a while back,”
“Lying to the crimson pack is an offense punishable by death! Now think again before you answer our question!”
Fear grips my insides, what am I supposed to do now? “I…He’s…I don’t…”
The men get impatient and push me aside and storm into the house. I watch in dismay as my uncle tries to run out the backdoor and abandon me with these men.
One of them shifts into a heavy gray wolf and lunges over the crooked dining table and lands on my uncle's back, forcing him to the ground on his stomach.
“Kristoff you owe the Alpha twins a lot of money and it’s time you pay off.” The lead enforcer says.
My uncle blubbers and bursts into pathetic tears. “Please! I’ll pay, please don’t cut off my claws!”
They sneer at him.
“You’ll pay? You have nothing to give that is worth value!”
My uncle’s neck turns in my direction and a desperate look comes on his face.
“Take her! She should be worth the money I owe. She’s my slave girl.”
“No I am not! I’m his niece!” I cry and back away in alarm.
The enforcers exchange looks. Are they seriously considering my stupid uncle’s offer?
“We can’t go back empty-handed, we might as well take her,” One of them says, stroking his jaw.
My uncle nods eagerly, ready to save his own behind.
“Yes! She’s a no good, I have no use for her. She’s rude and has a sharp tongue on her, but she can work. She’s all yours.”
I’ll admit I’m a bit stung by my uncle’s betrayal. Yes, he has treated me worse than garbage my entire life, but he is also all I’ve ever known as an orphan. The fact that he’d throw me under the bus without so much as missing a step, makes my inside go cold with the realization that I’m all I have in this world.
I take another step back, my entire body tensing to run, I will not be taken as a slave to pay my uncle’s debts. Before I can try to escape, one of the men grabs my arm.
“Let go of me!” I yelp and fight his hold on me.
But it’s like struggling against iron binds. It’s pointless. The enforcers are strong, every werewolf belonging to the crimson pack are. A direct reflection of belonging to those terrifying Alpha twins pack.
They drag me out of the door, I don’t even get to say goodbye to my uncle. He just remains on the floor shivering, avoiding my glare directed at him.
The enforcers discuss among themselves:
“We should take her to Alpha Horus. Maybe he’ll have use for her in the harem.”
“Yeah, she’s not bad looking even with all that grime and dirt all over her body.”
The one that says this gives me a blatant once over that makes my skin crawl. “Or maybe the other twin will have her, then she’ll really be in trouble. He’s a beast. He’d break her in half.”
They laugh among themselves.
My heart pounds frantically. I’m afraid of meeting my fate. The Alpha twins are well known throughout Feralia. They kill anyone who isn’t subject to them and rumors have it that their wolf forms are so mighty and powerful that they can decapitate a man with just one swipe of their sharp claws.
These are the people my dear old uncle has handed me over as ordinary merchandise in the marketplace.
The enforcers take me to the giant fortress that houses the Alphas. I don’t even have the time to marvel at the imposing structure and gothic architecture. We go through many dimly lit hallways as I try to hazard an escape plan.
If it comes down to it, I might have to use my abomination of an ability. The thought leaves a bitter taste in my mouth, but I don’t want to die. Or be a slave to the tyrant twins.
We arrive outside a door, and after three sharp raps, they push it open and enter. It is a large room with a domed ceiling and scarlet drapes and lit by flickering flames from burning torches hanging from brackets on the stone walls. There’s a man sitting on a throne, no one needs to tell me that he is one of the Alpha twins. Power rolls of his powerful frame. He has short black hair and heavy brooding brows.
“What is this?” His voice is rough and sends tingles of awareness over my skin. There’s a huge mountain of black fur beside him. I frown at this odd sight. What is that?
“Kristoff’s payment for his debt my Lord.” One of the enforcers responds to the Alpha’s question.
The Alpha’s voice is deadly calm but makes the temperature in the room drop and Goosebumps break out over my skin. “What use do I have for a lowly omega?”
My eyes remain downcast, yes I am a lowly omega, maybe he won’t want me. I can only dare to hope.
I survey the room and look at the window. From the position of the sun I can tell we’re at the west corner of the fortress, which means the land below will be leading into the dense forest that surrounds most of Feralia.
The mountain of black fur moves, drawing my attention back to the Alpha, and I almost let out a strangled yelp as I realize that it is a huge black wolf. There’s barely any recognizable human light in its stark crimson eyes. It sniffs the air with its long snout.
The Alpha turns his attention to the wolf. His side profile is like that of a Greek god. So handsome yet so cold and uncaring.
He speaks:
“Perhaps you'll make use of her, Jace? The full moon is coming, you can have her in your bedroom. I know how you get during mating season, so try not to break this one.”
The black wolf releases a low growl and my knees buckle at the thought of being any closer to that beast. I don’t wait for them to come to a decision. I will not be given to some giant beast as a s*x toy. I’d rather die.
I was never chained or tied up. No one has a hold on me. I suspect they all expect me to be paralyzed by terror, but that is their one mistake; underestimating me.
I take a deep breath and break into a run, dashing straight for the stained-glass window to my left. The Alpha releases a loud snarl “She dares to run? Go after her Jace! She’s yours to do with as you please. I know you love to hunt.”
There’s a loud howl, it sounds like one of pure excitement. The black wolf wants to hunt me.
You are mine little lamb. I hear a raspy voice at the back of my mind. I don’t stop to think about how it’s possible that I can hear his voice in my head.
I vault myself against the window, transforming in midair, and using my stronger and thicker werewolf form to shatter the glass. I plunge downward, whether to my death or to my escape, I do not know. But I must get away from those evil Alpha twins.
