MY TARGET IS MY BABY'S DADDY
Chapter 1
Divorced!
“Please, believe me, I didn’t push Karla!” Roselina said to her husband, Zane Edelston who was ascending the stairs angrily.
“Reece, you have to believe me. I would never do such a thing!” she pleaded, rushing after him. She had a hard time keeping up, his legs were too long and he was walking so fast, towards their matrimonial bedroom.
The moment he entered the room, he headed to the bedside cabinet and quickly fished out a document from the second drawer. He threw it at her who just entered the room. Rosalina wasn’t expecting something to be thrown at her, so she subconsciously retreated to the side and the document fell to the floor.
She nervously looked at her husband who was taking off his tie, his face growing angrier by the second. She then stooped to pick up the document from the floor. Upon seeing its content, her face paled, and her lips began to tremble. It was exactly what she feared- A DIVORCE AGREEMENT!
“Quickly sign it and get your disgusting self and your nasty belongings out of my dwelling!” he barked.
“Zane…”
“Are you deaf?” he threw a black pen at her, “Sign that damn paper and get the hell out of my house!”
“Zane, it hasn’t gotten to this extent. I am telling the truth. I didn’t push her down the stairs. You know me. Zane, we’ve been married for three years. I’m not capable of doing such a vile act. Please believe me,” she pleaded, walking closer to him, with the intent of holding his hand.
“Stay away from me, you witch!” he warned.
“Zane, please don’t do this to me,” Rosalina begged, about to go down on her knees. But she didn’t expect what came right after she said this last sentence.
SLAP!
His right hand harshly connected with the left side of her face. His fingerprints were visible on her cheek, showing how brutal that slap was. Her eyes widened and she fell to the floor in astonishment.
“Z-Zane, you slapped me?” she whispered in a shaky voice. The tears that she’d been trying to hold back broke free from entrapment and rolled down her cheeks in torrents, a few of them landed on the paper in her hand.
“If you don’t do as I say, your corpse is what I’ll deliver to your wretched family. Make sure you’re out of here by the time I’m done,” with that, he stormed into the bathroom.
Rosalina was still seated on the floor, her shoulders trembling as she tried hard not to cry.
She’d married Zane when his father was still alive. In order to secure his position as heir to the Edelston’s wealth, he had to agree to the engagement set by his grandpa and her grandpa years ago. When they got married 3 years ago, he had told her that he would never touch her body.
All she had to do was pretend to be a happy wife outside and perform the chores in his house. He fired all the maids in his residence, saying that his wife shouldn’t be lazy. She never complained once, hoping that one day she would eventually soften his heart, that one day he would fully accept her as his wife.
But that hope shattered when reality punched her hard in the face. Before he married her, he had someone he loved, his ex-girlfriend, Karla Winterson who was also his childhood friend. After hearing the news of their marriage, she had gone abroad and Rosalina thought she’d never return.
But last month, she surprisingly returned to Blistyne country and started to work in Zane’s company as his secretary. Rumours flew around that their past love would rekindle but she hoped that it wouldn’t. But her husband looked at this Karla with eyes full of affection and care, the exact opposite of the way he looked at her- with cold and distant eyes.
Her husband went on a business trip two days ago and that woman, that damn Karla smugly showed up in their home and said that since she was back, she would take her rightful place as Mrs Edelston. She had boasted that in a few days, Rosalina would no longer be in her way.
She hadn’t believed her then and thought it was just empty threats from a jealous woman. But Zane called her that next day, demanding reasons why she pushed his dear Karla from the stairs!
And try as she might to explain her innocence, he didn’t believe her. He showed up this afternoon, and the first thing he did was hand her this nightmare- a divorce paper. It must have been ready some time ago and he’d already signed too. All that was needed was for her to sign it and get out of this place.
She picked up the high-end pen from the floor with trembling hands, trying so hard to stifle a cry while sniffing. So this was what she was worth to him- absolutely nothing!
Wiping off her tears with the sleeves of her black gown, she proceeded to sign the papers and then slowly got to her feet and placed them on the bed. She started gathering her things- The things that she had brought when she came to this house as a wife, nothing more.
Her things filled her old white suitcase. Now that she was ready, she took one last glance at the room that she called her matrimonial bedroom for three years. Now it was something she had no right to be in.
“Goodbye, Zane,” she whispered in a shaky voice before exiting the room. She carried her suitcase down the stairs and headed out of the huge residence on foot. The security guard promptly opened the gate and let her pass, wearing a concerned look but he didn’t dare to say anything.
Now outside what used to be at home, she took one last glance and wiped off a tear that had sneaked out of her right eye, sniffing. As she pulled the suitcase away, her phone rang and she took it out of her gown’s pocket. She saw it was a strange number. Not in the mood to pick up any calls, she cut it and kept it back in her pocket. She soon flagged down a taxi and entered.

6:00 pm,
At her family house,
“You stupid girl! What did I do in my past life to have an unfilial daughter like you? What did I do wrong?” her father lamented after hitting her hard across her right cheek, “How dare you push Karla? Now see how you ended!”
“Dad…” she called out in a quaky voice, tears flowing down her cheeks, “I didn’t do such a thing. I’m innocent. You raised me; I’m not capable of hurting people, no matter how unhappy I am. Why don’t you believe me?” she cried.
“Believe you? You’re just like your mother. If I had known this would happen, I’d have married your younger sister to him. I’m sure she would have gotten him to open his heart to her and have a kid or two for him. But you… three years, Rosalina! Three years and you have nothing to show for it!” he spat.
“Dad, he’s never touched me, how do you expect me to get pregnant?” she cried, her legs feeling wobbly.
“Look at you!” her stepmother, Evelyn Turner spoke for the first time, “You’re telling me you were waiting for him to touch you? You are supposed to take the initiative, you fool! A venereous drug or two would have done the trick. But you… You truly are as useless as your mother!” she spat with malice.
“Big sister, you really brought shame to us this time,” her stepsister, Cynthia who was two years younger than her said with a smug look. Rosalina found it hard to believe but reality had harshly kicked her in the gut again. Her family despised her just as Zane did!
“I don’t have a daughter like you. From this point onwards, you are no longer my daughter. Get out this instant and never show your face before me or any of my family members again!” her father spat with a venomous tone, shocking Rosalina.
“No, please don’t do this to me, Father, I beg you!” she pleaded tearfully.
“Rufus!” her dad shouted and a hefty man soon came in hurriedly.
“Sir!”
“Throw this thing out of my house and never let her in again!” her dad commanded before heading towards the stairs that led to the second floor.
“No, Dad. Please don’t send me away. Mom, sister, please help me beg him!” she shrieked.
“Oh, dear sis. No scratch that! Dear ex-sister,” Cynthia chuckled as she walked to Rosalina who had been grabbed by the hefty man.
“Karla was a friend of mine back then. You caused her to miss the golden opportunity. I, as a good friend, helped her get it back. And with you out of the way, I’ll forever remain Daddy’s favourite. And you see this?” Cynthia proudly showed the diamond ring on her left ring finger, “I’m getting married to Zane’s friend, Louis Sandston. You must be bitter at the moment, right? Don’t worry, Father only disowned you, it doesn’t mean you’ll die out there without the support of your family and ex-husband. You’re an everlasting cockroach and a tenacious dragon. That’s what you said to Karla a few days ago, right? So prove it! Although I’d really like to hear that you were hit and run over by a car,” Cynthia laughed as she went back to sit beside her mother who was seated elegantly on the red couch.
“Throw that thing out. The air is polluted because of her. Quickly!” Mrs Turner ordered with a disgusted look.
…
It was pouring outside and occasionally, thunder rumbled, causing her to tremble both from the cold and fear of thunder.
So she meant nothing, not just to her ex-husband, but also to her family. So long as she was useless, she was would be discarded. Turns out, Cynthia was the precious daughter favoured by the heavens. How great life was for her- taking everything from her!
She had nothing other than this suitcase and the money in her account. Luckily, a cab was passing and she quickly boarded it.
