Chapter 1 – THE NIGHT HE BROKE HER
The first time my husband asked me to sign my name…
It wasn’t on a love letter.
It was on a divorce paper.
“Sign it.”
Adrian’s voice was calm. Too calm. Like he wasn’t ending a marriage like he was finishing a business deal.
My fingers trembled as I stared at the document in front of me. The words blurred together, but one sentence stood out like a knife to my chest.
DIVORCE AGREEMENT.
Three years.
Three whole years of loving him… and this was how it ended?
I forced a smile, even though my lips were already shaking.
“Adrian… is this a joke?”
He didn’t smile back.
“I don’t joke about things like this.”
Something inside me cracked.
The rain outside slammed against the windows, loud and violent, like it knew my world was falling apart.
“I’m pregnant,” I whispered.
I didn’t plan to tell him like this.
I wanted candles. A soft smile. Maybe even a little laugh.
Not this.
Not… like this.
For a moment just one moment I thought I saw something flicker in his eyes.
Shock.
But it disappeared so quickly I wondered if I imagined it.
Then he said the words that destroyed me completely.
“Get rid of it.”
My breath hitched.
“…what?”
“I don’t want that child.”
Each word was sharp. Cold. Final.
I stared at him like I didn’t recognize the man standing in front of me.
This was the same man who once held my hand and told me I was his only choice.
So when did I become… disposable?
“Adrian,” my voice broke, “this is your baby.”
“No.” He stepped closer, his expression turning impatient. “It’s a mistake.”
A mistake.
Our child… was a mistake.
Tears blurred my vision, but I refused to let them fall. Not in front of him.
Not when he looked at me like I meant nothing.
“Why are you doing this?” I asked quietly.
He didn’t hesitate.
“Because she’s back.”
My heart stopped.
…she?
The door behind him opened.
And then I saw her.
Beautiful. Elegant. Perfect.
The kind of woman men don’t forget.
The kind of woman I could never compete with.
She walked in like she already owned everything including my husband.
“Adrian,” she said softly, slipping her hand into his arm like it belonged there. “Is it done?”
My chest tightened so hard I could barely breathe.
He didn’t pull away.
Instead… he looked at me.
Cold.
Detached.
“Sign it,” he repeated.
The rain got heavier.
Or maybe… that was just the sound of my heart breaking.
I looked down at the paper again.
My vision fell on one line.
No compensation. No claims. No future ties.
So that was it.
Three years of marriage…
Worth nothing.
I let out a small, broken laugh.
“You really thought I would beg you?” I asked.
Adrian frowned slightly, like my reaction wasn’t what he expected.
Good.
Because I wasn’t going to give him the satisfaction.
Not anymore.
With shaking hands, I picked up the pen.
And signed my name.
The moment the ink touched the paper… something inside me died.
But something else was born.
I looked up at him one last time.
“Don’t regret this,” I said softly.
He didn’t answer.
He didn’t even care.
And that… was the last time I allowed myself to love Adrian Kingsley.
I walked out of that house in the middle of the storm.
No money.
No family.
No place to go.
Just a child growing inside me… and a heart that had been completely shattered.
But as I stepped into the rain…
I didn’t know
That three years later…
The man who threw me away…
Would kneel in front of me…
Begging for a second chance.
But by then…
I wouldn’t be the same woman anymore.
Because the child he called a mistake…
Was about to become the reason he loses everything.
And what he didn’t know yet…
Was that the night he divorced me
Someone else… was already watching.
Waiting.
Ready to take me away from him forever.
“Miss… come with me.”
A black car stopped in front of me.
And the man inside said something that changed my entire life
“You are the only heir to the Laurent Empire.”
