We finally made it to the top level. The open dark sky was a welcome sight even though it was filled with smoke, screaming and growls. I noticed that we emerged from the underground tunnels at the far side of the compound, and we were just about to run along the edge of the overgrown vegetation wall, when a part of it ahead of us, exploded. We all ducked down as debris came tumbling down and I shielded Susan as best I could as her screams painfully filled my ears.
