Chapter 10 1901When the train finally pulled into the depot on top of the mountain late that night, Adam tried to hide his ragged, gnawed fingernails from everyone else. He’d been trying to decide if he should run as fast as he could as soon as the train stopped, or wait back with all the other boys and try to blend in. Maybe if that Captain never laid eyes on him again, he’d forget what the boy looked like. Adam and several of the other youngest boys usually slept on the train when it was empty. Saved them a dime instead of sleeping in even the cheapest hotel in the resort town. Adam wasn’t sure he’d be able to manage to close his eyes anywhere after what he’d seen. He finally decided the best thing would be to walk around all night and see if he could make up his mind about what to do
