Chapter 11 Adam wasn’t surprised that a couple of the older boys were happy to make that horrible night worse for everyone who’d missed the excitement. No one seemed to know how it happened that a head was caught in that driving wheel, but those boys knew what it took to get it out. The fireman had finally used a pickaxe. The teenagers might have gleefully repeated their story to other employees of the rail line hoping to carry the drama back down the mountain, but it never got that far. Adam didn’t know if it was the unspoken rules about keeping to themselves, or if that Captain had threatened everyone. He knew for sure he never did see the same inspector again. The only boy younger than Adam lasted as long as the return trip back down to Gossdale before he walked away and never came
