Chapter 14

“I don’t get why you’re being so stubborn!” My mother yelled at me. It was late at night and we were still arguing about Klaus. It had been about three months since his ball and I was completely taken with him. I cared about him and I didn’t understand my mother’s hatred towards him. “I don’t understand why you don’t want me seeing him. Isn’t it you that pestered me into finding a man?” I yelled back. The rest of our family stood by the door, too scared to interfere. “If I told you it would hurt you. I don’t want to hurt you.” She muttered. “How the hell would it hurt me?!” I yelled louder. “Klaus is a werewolf!” She shouted. “What?” I whispered. My whole body froze, not accepting the information that was being thrown at me. “Klaus is a werewolf.” She repeated. “How long have you known?” I asked her, my voice barely above a whisper. “For a very long time now. Almost five years.” She muttered. “And you didn’t think to tell me on the night of the ball?” I asked, my anger rising again. “I swore to his father that I wouldn’t tell anyone.” She said. “So your duty to some werewolf is more important than the safety of your family?” I hissed. “He could have killed us on the night of the ball.” “But he didn’t. Klaus was born with this transformation and he con control it. But to some extent. I don’t want you seeing him anymore.” She said firmly. “You think by telling me he’s a werewolf it’ll change my feelings for him?” I asked her. “Aria, plea-” “Don’t. Don’t say you’re sorry for letting this go on for so long. And don’t try to change my mind. I care about Klaus and there’s nothing you can do about that.” I snapped. I grabbed my cloakand stormed out the door. I didn’t know where I was going, and I didn’t care. My head was spinning and I needed to get away from everyone. Before I realized it, I was by the lake. “Aria.” I heard his voice call out. “What are you doing here, Klaus?” I asked. “I could ask you the same thing. It’s freezing. Surly you didn’t come here for a swim?” He asked. I laughed half heartedly. “what’s wrong?” He asked wrapping his hands around me. “I know.” I said simply. “what?” He asked confused. “I know about you. I know what you are.” I whispered. “Your mother told you.” He guessed. I nodded my head weakly. “So why aren’t you running?” He asked harshly. “What?” I asked confused. “I’m a monster, aren’t I? Humans are taught to fear creatures like us, aren’t they? So why aren’t you running?” He snapped. “I don’t know,” I muttered. “You should be.” He said darkly. I looked at him with confused eyes. “I’ve killed people you know. All those legends and rumors about me, they’re all true.” He hissed. “You told me those were all lies.” I said, my anger rising again, more heatedly this time. “Do you really think I would tell a witch, with a family of powerful witches, that I was a werewolf?” he asked me. “You knew.” I muttered. “Of course I knew.” He snapped. “So you thought that you could get into my good books and I wouldn’t kill you? You thought that if you’d send me measly flowers and wooed me that I’d give you my heart, and then I wouldn’t kill you?” I asked glaring at him. “I didn’t intend for all this to happen.” He muttered. “What?” I asked, taken aback. “That night I took you for a walk, I meant to kill you.” He said. “Then why didn’t you?” I whispered. My voice was cracked and I started shaking from the cold. “I don’t know the answer to that myself. I just couldn’t kill you. Then I couldn’t stop thinking about you, and before I knew it…I fell in love with you,” he whispered the last part. “what?” I asked. “I fell in love with you,” he muttered. I stayed silent, not knowing what to do. This could all be a trick, a trap to kill me. But, for some reason, I didn’t think it was. “I love you too,” I muttered. The words came of their own accord, but they felt true. “What?” He asked softly. “You heard me. I’m not repeating myself.” I muttered. For a moment we stood there in silence, both of us staring at each other. Then our arms were wrapped around each other, kissing each other passionately. My hands tangled into his long hair and he wrapped his arms around my waist. Heat coursed throughout my entire body and I wanted more of him. He kissed me forcefully and I tripped on a rock. We both we sprawling to the ground. His arms held me protectively so I wasn’t really jostled. Once on the ground, Klaus climbed on top of me and trailed kisses down my neck. I sighed contentedly. “Well, out of everything that could have happened, I never thought this would have.” Luke’s voice rang out across the lake. I sighed in irritation and I heard Klaus growl a little. He got off me and pulled me to my feet. Luke stood lounging against a tree. “What do you want?” I snapped. “Mother wanted me to check on you, but by the looks of things, I say you’re doing just fine.” Luke smirked. “Go to hell,” I mumbled. “Come on, I’ just playing with you,” He smirked. “I must hand it to you, Klaus, I never thought I’d see her so caught up with a man before,” Luke added to him. “Well then I’m glad I was the first. And hopefully the only.” He smiled. I rolled my eyes at him but smiled back. “Come on you two. People are going to be wondering what those ungodly moans where about.” Luke grinned. “What moans?” I asked suspiciously. “Did you really not hear yourself?” He asked. “I was not moaning.” I snapped. “Calm down kid, I was just joking.” Luke grinned. “Basturd.” I muttered. “It’s very poor manners for a lady to curse.” Luke reprimanded me. “You sound like mother,” I muttered giggling. “That was the whole point sweetheart.” He smiled. I rolled my eyes at him. “So now what?” Klaus asked. “I say we carry on like everything’s normal. You know my secret, I know yours. Nothing has to change.” I said. “I agree.” Klaus said entwining our hands together. “I really need a girl,” Luke muttered. “How about that werewolf alpha?” I joked. “Sophie?” Klaus asked. “Yeah,” I grinned, turning my head towards him. “She’s my best friend.” Klaus smiled. “Really?” I asked. “I’ve known her since I was a child. Elijah’s madly in love with her.” Klaus smirked. “Don’t tease your brother like that,” I playfully elbowed him. “I know. It’s just, Elijah has too much pride. He won’t admit it to her.” Klaus smiled even bigger. “She knows, doesn’t she?” I guessed. “Yeah.” Klaus grinned. “You told her, didn’t you?” I guessed again. “You really are one smart witch.” Klaus grinned. “You really are evil.” I said jokingly. He kissed my lips again and I heard Luke sigh. “Do you have a problem?” I asked, pulling away to glare at him. “I guess not,” He muttered, “Good.” I said, kissing Klaus again. I heard Luke groan and stomp up to the castle. “We really need to find your brother a wife,” Klaus grinned. “I know.” I giggled. I pulled his face to mine again and kissed him lightly.
