Chapter 19

719 Words
The next day Klaus hosted a ball to celebrate our engagement. I wasn’t one for parties, but Klaus wanted it so I played along with the little charade. I wore a bright green dress, stepping away from my usual dark colors. We stood at the door, greeting everyone and thanking them for coming. Then the music started and Klaus wanted to dance. “You’ve asked a lot of my self control today. Don’t you think dancing would be pushing it?” I chuckled. “It’s one dance,” Klaus reasoned with me. “Fine, but you’re going to have to deal with my temper,” I cautioned him. “Alright then,” He smirked, taking my hand. We twirled around the room, in-between guests and family. The Grigori family were all vampires and you could tell the difference between them and the other guests. The Grigoris moved with grace and an unnatural stillness. “Your family seem to be enjoying themselves,” I said watching Elijah and his brothers. “They’re happy for me,” Klaus grinned. “You’re lucky they’re so caring,” I smiled. “That’s only appearance. After my father’s death they’ve been very…distant,” Klaus sighed. “You did turn them all into vampires,” I said. “By their own will,” Klaus defended himself. I rolled my eyes at him and he brought his face down to mine and I lightly kissed him. Applause erupted all around us and I pulled back to see every pair of eyes staring at us with smiles on their faces. I blushed and let my hair fall around my face. “You’re so cute when you blush,” Klaus said tucking one side of my hair behind my ear. “We should keep the kissing down to a minimum,” I said still blushing. After the ball was done, Klaus brought me up to his painting room, where he made me sit on the couch while he painted me. “You look so calm when you paint,” I smiled at him. “Painting you calms me down,” Klaus smiled at me. “So how is being a vampire?” I asked, trying to make casual conversation. Klaus put down his brushes and walked over to me. He sat down on the couch, laying me on top of him and tucking my head under his chin. “It’s amazing,” Klaus said stroking my face. “The need to kill isn’t there?” I asked. “Oh, it’s there,” Klaus’s eyes gleamed. My stomach did a flip and I was suddenly overcome by the need to run away from here. I ignored that feeling, and looked up at Klaus. “Have you killed anyone?” I whispered. There was a long silence that followed, making that feeling magnify. “If you could, would you spend forever with me?” Klaus asked, ignoring my question. “Every minute of it,” I smiled. He smiled back at me and kissed me lightly. “I was hoping you would say that,” Klaus smirked. He picked me up and in an instant we were on his bed, and he was on top of me. “Why?” I asked warily. I never received an answer. Klaus’s eyes glowed red and he grew fangs. He bit down onto his wrist and pushed it against my mouth. At this point I was absolutely frantic, not knowing what to do. I tried using my powers, but it had no effect. The blood was forced down my throat and I choked on my tears. “I love you,” Klaus whispered into my ear before he bit down on my neck. I could feel the blood being drawn out, and the fear heightened. I knew his family was still in the house, and that they could hear us. I tried desperately calling out to my family, hoping someone would hear me. The last thing I remember before I blacked out was a bright white light…coming closer…closer still. Until everything went black.
