Chapter 20

I shot up, my breathing quickening. The last thing I remembered was Klaus draining me of blood. I shook my head, trying to get my bearings. I was in a room. Klaus’s room. He was nowhere to be seen. I climbed off the bed, realizing that my dress had been splattered with blood. As I snuck out of Klaus’s home I saw someone moving in the distance. It was one of Klaus’s chambermaids. She walked closer to me and I could sense the blood pulsing through her veins. Something inside of me wanted to rip her throat open and drain her of every drop of blood. “Listen to it,” I heard a voice whisper. I spun around in a blur to come face to face with Klaus. “What- what did you do to me?” I choked out. “I think you know that answer already,” Klaus’s eyes gleamed. “Henrietta,” Klaus called out to the chambermaid. “Come here,” She obeyed, and walked up to us. “Yes master?” She asked. Klaus never answered, he just bit down onto her neck. I could hear her screams, sense her shake, but my mind concentrated on the blood pouring out of her wound. My mouth started watering, and instinctively I moved towards her. “That’s it,” Klaus said, “Drink it,” He instructed. Before I could stop myself, my mouth was over her wound, fangs extracted piercing into her skin. As soon as I realized what I had done I pulled away. Horrified with myself I fled before Klaus could stop me. I went to the only person I could think of. Sophie. When she realized that I was there she walked out of her house to greet me. Seeing me covered in blood she rushed to me with a cloth. “What happened?” Sophie asked, frantic. “He turned me…into a vampire…” My voice shook and my eyes filled with tears. Sophie saw the horror in my face. “You’ve finally seen the real him,” She muttered. “What do you mean?” I asked. “Klaus has always been like this. He’s always been a monster. He just hid this side of himself from you,” Sophie muttered. “The missing people,” I recalled my mother telling me something about ten missing people over the past week. “He killed them all,” I guessed. “Yes,” Sophie whispered. “And you still love him?” I guessed. Sophie was never one for lying. “Yes,” She sighed. “Knowing the beast he really is?” I asked her. She nodded. I pulled free from her grasp, not wanting to be near her. “He’s like me, Aria. We’re both creatures of the night, we both kill to survive,” She tried reasoning with me. I shook my head at her and stepped back. “He needs to be stopped,” I muttered. “You need to help me stop him,” I told her. She looked at me for a second and nodded her head. “I need you to bring me a werewolf,” I instructed her. “Why?” She asked. “Just do it,” I snapped before running back to the castle. Just after sundown I stood outside my garden, with Klaus’s brother James. He was unconscious because of an ancient herb I made him drink. Vervain. My family had helped me acquire the herb, and they were going to help me curse Klaus. I told them what I had become, and thankfully they didn’t care. They were still on my side. “He’s almost here,” Malika muttered. Then I heard footsteps and instead of Klaus, Sophie appeared with a girl. She had long, black hair and tanned skin. “This is my cousin Trina,” Sophie explained. “The Petrova girl is here,” Luke informed me. Briana Petrova was one of the country’s Nobles. And she knew about the witches and supernatural beings here. “Thank you for coming,” I smiled at her. “My pleasure. I just want him to stop killing all these people,” She smiled. I smiled back. I had the moonstone, a unique, mystical rock. This was going to be my talisman. “When the spell is done, I want you to take the moonstone and hide it,” I told Sophie. “I’ll give it to my cousins the Lockwood’s. They’ll keep it safe,” She told me. I nodded. I could hear footsteps in the distance and I saw my father and Melody’s husband bring Klaus to our garden. He was chained up and still trying to break free. My father used magic, but that seemed to barely hold him down. “We should begin,” I told my sisters.
