Grace was furious when she found out that Emma had gone to Washington D.C. with Talia and Mason. How could her husband make that trip with her daughter and another woman? They obviously spent the night together with no regard for her feelings as his wife.
Grace and Mason had a big fight at the office.
Mason tried to explain and calm her down. “It’s not what you think. This was a business trip and I had previously asked you to come with me but you refused, saying that those events were boring. Furthermore, Emma came along because you abandoned her and left in a hurry for your parents’. Could you blame me for your incompetence as a mother?”
“Even if I am incompetent, I am still Emma’s mother. No other women have the right to take care of my daughter!”
“Grace, you are ridiculous!” Mason said furiously.
Just then, Talia knocked on the door, opened the door, and walked in. She was unaware of the ongoing argument and froze at the doorway holding onto a document folder. “Oh, so sorry, I...”
“You slut! How dare you seduce my husband and gain my daughter’s favor?” Grace snarled and lunged at her, reaching for her neck with her manicured hands. She grabbed her bare neck and began to choke her as she screamed hysterically, “Die! You shameless slut!”
Talia was startled by the unprovoked attack and quickly backed away from Grace. However, Grace was in a raging fit and dived over, knocking Talia off her feet and they both fell onto the ground.
The hard fall tore the wound on Talia’s arm and blood began to flow from it. The commotion drew the rest of the office staff’s attention and all rushed over to help Talia.
Mason was alarmed by how violently Grace behaved. He rushed forward, grabbed Grace off the top of Talia, and threw her aside as he shouted, “Stop the madness!”
He bent down to pick up Talia into his strong arms and walked briskly toward the lift. Grace was so upset by the loss of face that she began to smash everything she could in his office as the rest of the staff watched on.
Talia was exhausted by all the drama and fell asleep when the nurses cleaned her wound and began to stitch it.
Chris: Talia, you have to protect yourself. Try not to be hurt again.
Talia: Thanks for caring, Chris, it was all worth it. Look at how much Mason worries about me now.
At this point, Mason gently tucked several strands of hair behind her ear.
She opened her eyes and saw him looking directly into her eyes. She smiled weakly but elegantly and he said tenderly, “I’m really sorry that you’re dragged into my family matters. Grace has a bad temper, don’t take it to heart. Behavior like this is unacceptable, especially at the office. I’ll sort her out.”
“It’s okay, I think she lost her self-control because she loves you and Emma too much. She was feeling insecure which led to her lashing out. I know this as a woman.”
“Talia, you are truly amazing.” Mason praised her from the bottom of his heart. “You’ve been repeatedly hurt by her and yet you continue to speak up for her. If you had appeared in my life earlier, perhaps Grace would not be my...”
Talia was happy that this was going according to her plan but she continued the charade. “Don’t say that, Mr. Campbell. A harmonious family is very important, especially now that you have Emma. She needs her mother and father to be happy. I’m sure I can clear up the misunderstanding with Ms. Donovan and she would not feel threatened by me.”
Mason sighed and said, “I don’t expect her to do anything fantastic. I just hope that she’ll be nice to Emma, and be half as dutiful and gracious as you are.”
It was obvious that Mason had fallen deeper for Talia. He continued to stay by her bedside and chatted with her at the hospital for the rest of day, with no intention to leave.
When it was time to go home, Grace was furious again when she realized that Mason still had not returned from the hospital.
“Faye, go to the hospital right now and teach that woman a good lesson! How dare she seduce my husband so blatantly!”
Mason had just walked out of the hospital room to take a business call when Faye arrived.
“Ms. Miller, are you feeling better?” Faye smiled and sat on the edge of the bed.
Talia knew that she was Grace’s lapdog and must have some ulterior motive for coming. She kept her guard up and wanted to see what she was up to.
“Thanks for your concern. I’m fine after the nurses attended to my wound. I’ll be better after some rest.”
“I heard that you’re alone in New York and have no one to take care of you. Now that you’re hurt, I can nurse you back to health if you don’t mind.”
Faye then got up to get a glass of water for Talia. She skillfully poured some white powder into the cup and then filled the glass with water without Talia noticing.
“Here, take a few sips and I’ll get you some dinner in a while.”
Chris: Watch out, Talia, she drugged the water!
Talia: Thanks, Chris, I got this. I won’t let her get away with it.
Talia suspected this all along but when Chris confirmed it, she knew exactly what she needed to do. She pretended to drink from the cup and then suddenly winced painfully as she said through gritted teeth, “Ouch, it hurts. Faye, please get me the doctor. I think I tore the stitch!”
Faye quickly rushed to the nurses’ station and when she returned moments later, she saw that the glass was empty.
Faye snickered and faked her concern for Talia. “Hang in there, the doctor will be here soon.”
Mason and a doctor rushed into the room together. He quickly asked, “Talia, what happened to your wound? How are you feeling?”
Just as Faye was about to answer for her, Talia shook her head and grabbed her abdomen.
“No... it’s not the wound... my stomach hurts. I just drank that glass of water, and immediately felt an excruciating pain... doctor, please help me!”
Mason asked doubtfully, “Water? What water?”
Talia pointed to the empty glass and said, “Faye just handed me a glass of water, I felt odd after drinking it,” she said as she took out another glass from under the bed, which was half filled with water. “I didn’t finish it and poured the rest into this glass. I wonder if there is a problem with the hospital’s water supply. Don’t let anyone else drink the water until this gets tested.”
Faye’s expression turned pale as soon as she heard this. She panicked and said, “I... I didn’t do anything!”
Mason also had his suspicions given Faye’s history with Grace. He immediately instructed the doctor to test the water in the glass.
Faye gave excuses and tried to leave but Mason stood in her way and prevented her from leaving. She squirmed nervously as they waited for the results of the test. Minutes seemed like hours and soon the doctor returned with the lab report.
He looked stern as he whispered to Mason to confirm that the water was indeed drugged!
Mason immediately raged, pointed his finger at Faye, and demanded. “Faye, why did you do this?”
Faye trembled fearfully and waved her hands frantically. “It’s not me, Mr. Campbell. Ms. Donovan forced me to do this. If I don’t do as she says, she will torment me! She was the one who gave me the powder. She frequently forces me to do such things!”
“Grace...” Mason mumbled softly as his eyes narrowed and clenched his fists in anger. He could not believe his wife was so vicious. Not only was she impatient with their daughter, but she was also suspicious of everything, and now she even threatened the employees. She even could not conduct a decent legal case and was becoming increasingly out of hand by the day! Even if he did not divorce her, he must not let her run amok in the firm!
Talia was in a rather jovial mood as she recuperated in the hospital. She had already learned from her colleagues that Mason tried to negotiate a divorce with Grace. She did not agree to a divorce and made a big fuss at the company before being fired by Mason, stripping her of all her authority and forbidding her to set foot in the office in the future.
Talia was eager to share the good news with Kevin and Jack.
“By the way, you must keep your guard up when you return to the firm. A very cunning man will be joining the firm in the coming days. He is Mason’s cousin and a very intelligent beta. Don’t let him get suspicious of what we are doing.”
“Understood.” Talia then chuckled and said, “I just wondering what I should do next. Although Grace had been fired, she is still living a luxurious life. I’m not letting her off so easily.”
