Unexpectedly Yours

"All the passengers are requested to switch off their electronic devices. We are about to take-off. We wish you a safe flight. Thank you.", announced the flight attendant.   I was putting my laptop back in my bag when something flashed from my right. "Holy s**t! This is definitely going to be added to my i********: grid.", laughed Jane, my best friend, flashing me the picture of mine that she just took.   "I swear to God I'll jump out of this plane right now if you keep doing such things. I agreed to come with you doesn't mean I am going to enjoy this trip with you. I am still mad at you for tricking me into this trip. You said it was a freaking emergency.", I said trying to sound a little annoyed.   "You should thank me for saving you from spending time with your boring ass boyfriend, seriously what do you see in that guy, he is a total buzzkill", she said making a disgusting face.   "First of all, he is not boring, he just have some different interests and second, he is handsome, well settled, polite, and most importantly approved by my parents, everything's just perfect in our relationship", I said taking out my pack of candies from my purse.   "But he's no fun at all, do you approve to live with a boring person your whole life just because your parents approve him? I can see even now that you are not happy, you have been looking very stressed since he proposed to you and don't even get me started on his proposal, that was the most boring proposal I have ever witnessed and I can't believe you agreed.", she said snatching the candy I took out of the packet and popping it into her mouth.   "I am just stressed about our wedding preparations, you know how he likes everything perfect and believe it or not but I am getting married to him in the next two months. End of this discussion.", I said putting on my eye mask pretending to sleep.   "Whatever you say, I still believe he's not the one for you and I will make sure you realize that too till the end of this trip.", she said playfully punching me on my forearm.   It's been four years since Kyle asked me out. We have always been a perfect couple, we never fight, we both have good jobs, we are both from same family background and he's the main reason my parents are not anymore upset with me. They almost stopped talking to me when I chose to be doctor instead of joining their business but ever since they met Kyle they are not anymore worried to leave their company in a stranger's hands after they retire. They got the perfect son-in-law and I got them back, there's nothing more I need, they are my only family. Well Jane is full to against our relationship though. She thinks that he's the most boring person on this planet and I am going to be bored to death if I marry him, not that my life is interesting anyways so why not go for the boring one if that makes your loved ones happy, and with that thought in mind I fell asleep.                                                                   *****************************************   I was so exhausted after being on the plane for almost eleven hours. We are now sitting in a taxi that I think is from the hotel where we are going to stay. Jane was silent for the rest of the flight which is so not like her usual behaviour. I guess something's up with her but she's pretending to be all fine. I know she won't tell me if I ask, she never does. She has become this secretive person since she started to search for her lost family. She was left at the orphanage gate when she was just an infant of four months. She's really a cool person though and I often wonder why she hangs out with me instead of people of her type. I'm not cool at all. I am a workaholic and seldom go out to have fun. I think that's why I don't find Kyle boring as I don't have time to do something interesting and he never does anything interesting. Just the perfect couple.   "Stop day dreaming Missy, we have arrived.", Jane said putting a stop to my track of thoughts.   "Now I can finally take a nice and hot shower.", I said somewhat relieved. A nice hot shower is the only thing that can calm me down now. I haven't even asked for a leave from the hospital. I have worked really hard to make good name for me there and I don’t know how they will respond after this unprofessional behaviour of mine. I am really tensed right now. I put my sunglasses on before getting out of the car. I was wearing a white tunic top matched with grey track pants and blue sneakers. Once we both were out we took our luggage and head towards the entrance enjoying the view all along. “D’Amiano” was written in big calligraphic letters at the top. There was a fountain in the middle of the lobby with a mermaid sculpted right at the centre of it. The light sound of water pouring down was very soothing. I don’t know why but wherever I go, the sight of fountain with the water splashing from top and the sound with which it touches the surface beneath captivates me. The interior of the hotel was beautiful. The colour combination of furniture and walls as coffee and beige gave it a little ancient look. An enormous chandelier was hanging just above the seating area. Without any more delay, we head towards the reception. Since Jane was the one talking so I decided to update my parents about this unexpected trip. I put my phone back in my purse after texting Kyle too.   “Now go let’s get ready, we have to be somewhere.”, said Jane in full enthusiasm.   “I am not going anywhere, I am so exhausted from the flight already. I just want to take a shower and get some sleep.” “Okay, how about we rest for an hour and then we will go?”, she asked hopefully making her puppy dog face.   “Since I told you I will not enjoy this trip then I shouldn’t be making any plans here but I don’t want to sulk alone in the room while you are out partying so I guess it sounds like a plan.”, I said taking the keys from her hand and heading towards the elevator.
