The Betrayal
Naomi’s POV Where is she!?” I ran around the room, searching for the woman, while Vincent stumbled after me, desperately clutching the duvet around himself. “Babe, please calm down!” “Calm down?” I spun around to face him. “You brought another woman into our bedroom and you’re telling me to calm down?” Vincent opened his mouth, but no words came out. I looked around the room again. She had to be here. There was no way she had disappeared that quickly. I searched the bathroom, but there was no one there. Just as I was about to search the closet, I saw a shadow running outside the room. I immediately tried to chase after her, but Vincent held me back. I didn’t even know when my hands had a mind of their own. Before I knew it, I had slapped Vincent. Even I was shocked by what I had done. “Babe,” he stammered. I couldn’t even look him in the face. I stormed out of the room and went straight to sit in my car since I had nowhere else to go. I had just gone grocery shopping, and Vincent had the nerve to bring another woman into our house. I broke down in the car and started crying. I knew I should leave the marriage, but honestly, this marriage had made me what I was today. My sister’s future still depended on Vincent. I would have nowhere else to go if I left. I decided to call Mia since she was the only family I had left. At that moment, I needed comfort. I dialed her number a few times, but she didn’t pick up. “That’s strange,” I said out loud. Before I could even process it further, Vincent came out fully dressed this time and begged me to open my car so the staff wouldn’t get suspicious. “Babe, please. Let’s go inside and settle this. I don’t want the staff to hear,” he said, whispering. “How long has this been going on?” I asked, ignoring his pleas. He couldn’t respond. I looked at him with pure disgust. I had spent three years serving this man. Being loyal to him. The least he could do was respect me. I’m sure the staff were already aware of this, but they just couldn’t bring themselves to tell me. I got out of the car. “You know what? It’s fine. It’s not like this marriage ever had love to begin with.” And with that, I walked away. I went to the bedroom to clear my head a little bit. I decided it wasn’t worth my tears. All I could do at that point was think. I kept thinking until my head started hurting and I unintentionally feel asleep. Few hours later it was time for dinner. One of the maids came to call me. Mrs. Sterling, dinner is ready.” “I’ll be there in a minute.” She nodded and left. I stood up from the bed and stared at myself in the mirror before leaving the room. My eyes were still swollen from crying. I decided I wasn’t going to let the staffs see me like this. I wasn’t going to potray myself weak. I walked into the bathroom and rinsed my face. Then I applied a little makeup before heading downstairs. I walked into the dining room and saw Vincent already sitting at the table. For a moment, I thought about turning around. But I wasn’t going to let him make me uncomfortable in my own house. I pulled out a chair and sat across from him. The table was filled with different dishes, but I had no appetite. Vincent picked up his glass and looked at me. “You haven’t eaten since afternoon.” “I’m not hungry.” “You need to eat.” I let out a small laugh. “Now you care if I eat?” He went quiet. I picked up my fork and moved the food around my plate without eating. The silence between us felt strange. We had been married for three years, even though the love was never there, he still had never disrespected me like this. And now, sitting across from him now felt like I was sitting with a stranger. “I’m sorry,” he finally said. I looked up at him. “For what?” He sighed. “For hurting you.” I stared at him for a few seconds. “Did you even feel guilty before I caught you?” His eyes dropped. That was enough of an answer. I pushed my plate away. “I don’t want to talk about this tonight.” “Naomi…” “I said I don’t want to talk about it.” He stopped. I stood up from the table. As I turned to leave, Vincent spoke again. “Where are you going?” “Back to my room.” “You’re not going to leave?” I looked at him. “Im not going to leave my home just for another woman.” The words came out before I could stop them. His expression changed, but I walked away before he could say anything. I went back to the bedroom and sat on the edge of the bed. My eyes moved around the room. This was supposed to be my home. The house, the clothes, the expensive things, the life I had built with Vincent. Everything looked perfect from the outside. But tonight, none of it felt like mine. My phone suddenly buzzed. I grabbed it quickly. For a second, I thought it was Mia. But it was only a message from the grocery store reminding me about my order for the next week. I stared at the screen and sighed. I still had no idea why Mia wasn’t answering. I called her one more time. Still nothing. I dropped the phone beside me and lay back on the bed. Something about tonight felt wrong. And I couldn’t shake the feeling that this wasn’t going to be the last thing that broke my heart.
