I'm walking down the hallway after a long shift of teaching new techniques regarding pediatric surgery when I hear my name being called.
"Dr. Brown!"
The voice sounds familiar and it kind of feels like deja vu. I try not to think about it too much and turn my attention to the voice.
It's Sam, my old receptionist?
"Sam?" I ask questioningly.
"Yes, Dr. Brown or uhm Luna," she replies while averting her eyes.
Wait, does that mean?
"Dr. Brown or Andrea is fine. We've known each other a while. Are you a wolf too, Sam?" I ask.
"Yes Dr. Brown. I am not from the same pack as you but the Alpha thought it would do you well to have some familiarity at your new workplace. This hospital is truly amazing, isn't it?" she gushes.
"Oh, Sam, I am so sorry my bone-headed mate brought you here like this. It wasn't necessary," I explain, only to see her face fall. "Wait! I don't mean I don't like working with you, because I do, but I just thought it would be such a hassle for you," I say, trying to smooth things over. Her face beams and she looks at me with a warm smile.
"Dr. Brown, your uhm mate offered a generous amount and it was the smartest decision, along with the fact that I missed you," she says sheepishly.
"Aw, I missed you too. So, not that I don't totally enjoy your company, did you have to tell me something? Noah gets very a little crazy if I don't get home by a certain time, because apparently I'm being kidnapped left and right."
"Of course! I totally forgot. I have been promoted to be more like your personal secretary and I had a few things I wanted to go over on your schedule. You know, with you going to take up the Luna mantle soon and all," she states.
"I didn't know I needed a secretary or a schedule?"
"Trust me, you will. With so many events to plan, including a few of your own. It will be a hands on deck situation, especially because our beta female isn't here and our gamma hasn't found his mate yet," she states matter of factly.
"Oh..." is the only thing I can say as I absorb the new information given to me. Sam looks up at me expectedly.
"Oh, do you mean right now?" I ask. She nods.
"We had an event you have to attend with the Alpha today," she tells me and then looks at her watch, "in about 3 hours, which just barely gives us enough time to get you ready."
"You know, Sam. I was really looking forward to some wine and a long bath and then some sleep. It's been a long d-" I am unable to finish my sentence as she grasps my arm and starts pulling me toward the car and to the pack house.
Sera: Looks like we don't get a say.
Andrea: I almost forgot you guys existed, Sera.
Sera: b***h, as if.
Andrea: No, seriously, you guys were so quiet the whole day.
Aqua: Well, we don't like to rest up while you do all the science and biology stuff.
Andrea: But you guys were awesome during that surgery with Trisha, Aqua?
Sera: That really was a one-time thing girl.
Andrea: Okay, I get it.
I raise my hands in mock surrender in my mind to let them know I've given up. I barely have enough energy as it is. Everything is still so fresh in my mind. I still haven't spoken to Noah about what happened and the impending danger.
Sera: Yeah, we should totally do that soon.
Aqua: Like, tonight maybe?
Andrea: Sera. Aqua.
Aqua and Sera: Yes?
Andrea: Do you guys know something I don't?
Sera: No.
Aqua: Maybe...
Sera: Dammit, Aqua.
Andrea: Aqua, spill.
Aqua: I am not telling you everything, but we should probably tell them as soon as possible. Okay?
Andrea: Cryptic, but okay.
A finger snaps in front of my face.
"Sorry Luna, I couldn't get your attention and we really need to move," Sam says.
"Sam, I just said to call me Andrea," I remind her.
"Can I PLEASE call you Luna when we're with other people?" she practically begs.
"Okay, fine, but when it's us, call me Andrea," I bargain.
"Deal! Okay, let's go. The Alpha has picked out a dress he would like you to wear." Sam tells me.
"Really? That's really not his or my style, but I'll amuse him for once," I joke.
As soon as we reached the room, I am overwhelmed by the number of people in my private spot. Not okay.
Sera: Eww, they're getting their scent in OUR room. Aqua: Not my sanctuary!Andrea: Okay, these people are about to hear it.
"EVERYONE OUT NOW!" I say in my "Luna voice."
Sam moves to leave, since no one can resist my voice, but I hold her elbow and whisper, "Not you."
Sera: Now I have to replace all this stench in the room.
Aqua: I agree.
Andrea: Believe me, I second that notion.
"Lu-" she starts but I cut her off with a glare, "I mean Andrea, the Alpha had the best of the best to help you get ready."
"Maybe he did, but I don't like people uninvited into my personal space. I can do my own makeup and you can do my hair. That's really the only thing I need help with, anyway. Now show me the dress so I know what we're working with." I can't help but feel excited.
She moves over to a chair where there is a garment bag placed and opens the zip. As soon as the first sliver of fabric pops out, I KNOW I am going to absolutely adore the dress. I have 3 words. Emerald green velvet. Perfect for the weather and, hopefully, whatever this fancy-shmancy event is.
I swear I hear Sera and Aqua purr at the dress.
I look over at the same time and see that she also has hearts in her eyes for the dress. We look at each other with creepy smiles and laugh. For a moment, I miss Angie, but then I remember that she needs time to get used to everything. Especially after Jack tells her that he's a shifter too.
I keep telling him that the longer he takes, the worse it will be for him, but it's like he doesn't listen. I know that she has some idea but she wants to hear it from him, but he stays ignoring her and the topic. It is getting ridiculous. I might have to order him.
Sera: I like that idea.
Aqua: Oh Goddess, it's like two of Sera. Help us Goddess.
Andrea: Actually, I would like to think of myself as the perfect blend of both of you.
Sera: *snorts*
Andrea: I am not going to dignify that with a response.
I look at the time and run to the bathroom to take off the day's grime.
Once, I am out of the shower, I put the dress on and, oh Goddess, does it fit like a fine tailored glove.
With its sweetheart-lined neck, showing the perfect amount of cleavage without being too tacky, hugging my curves and then flaring out in a trumpet-styled dress. This is the meaning of perfect retro Hollywood, and that is the look we go for.
I put on a perfect cat eye with red lips while Sam puts in soft Hollywood waves to one side, which she pins with a bejeweled comb, showing off my mark. Emerald necklace and earrings to match with some Louboutins, because you can never go wrong with red bottoms. Once I am ready, I hear a cat call whistle from Sam. I laugh and walk toward the full-length mirror in the room and I whistle at myself.
Goddess damn, I look hot.
Aqua: Ooooh he won't be able to take his paws off.
Sera: I won't be able to keep his paws off.
Andrea: Ladies, patience. There will be plenty of paws tonight.
Sam walks me down the stairs, where I hear a sharp intake of breath and a growl. I know exactly who it is.
"Here's your purse," Sam whispers and slips away after handing me my purse.
My eyes lock onto my mates' eyes and I purr and growl some of my own.
Sera: I am going to take a bite of that delectable ass.
Aqua: I absolutely LOVE this man but right now he is blowing the roof with his sexiness.
And that he is.
He is wearing a tux. Not a suit, which is my weakness, but a tux. Oh my Goddess. If I was wearing panties they would have officially melted.
Goddess, I will kill a b***h tonight. I am just glad his mark is visible for all to see.
As I reach the bottom of the stairs, he takes my hand and pulls me to him and we inhale each other's scent.
"Hello mate, we missed you," his voice huskier than normal.
"Hello mates, we missed you too" I purr after merging with Sera and Aqua knowing Xav and Noah have also merged.
I place a soft kiss on his mark and he smacks my ass lightly.
"Don't we have someplace to be?" I ask, innocently.
"I would be so tempted to skip it, if it wasn't important," he jokes back.
Our arousal if so prominent in the air, anyone within a 5 mile radius could smell it.
"After you, my beautiful mate," Noah gestures to the open passenger door of the Cadillac. After he helps me sit, he closes the door, and comes around to sit in the driver's seat.
"Off we go, mate," he murmurs, and drives off.
