THE LAST BLOODLINE

Skylar I was walking, but I had no idea where I was going when a sharp wail cut through the air. I spun around. No one was there. I turned back to face where I was headed — and slammed straight into a figure. It was ugly. Inhumanly ugly. I screamed and landed hard on my butt. The creature kept coming closer, stretching a ragged, filthy palm toward me. I kept shaking my head, whispering "no" over and over as I scrambled backward. "Come with me! You belong with us!!" it shrieked. Its voice sounded like autotune blasted through a megaphone. Horror crawled all over my skin. I crawled, then pushed myself up and ran. It chased me, shrieking the whole time. Then a hand touched my shoulder. I flinched violently and fell again with a loud thud. "Ouch..." My eyes shot open. "The same dream?" That was my sister, Nyla. So she was the one who touched me. "Yep. Never-ending," I muttered, picking myself up off the floor. I've had this dream for as long as I can remember. Nothing helps. And the worst part? Whenever someone touches me in my sleep, I wake up instantly — and I always fall off the bed. "What was the new information?" Nyla asked. I eyed her. "What has that got to do with you?" "Girl, I'm just worried. Mom is already looking for a therapist for you," she said as I started undressing. "I know they are memories from my past life. I just can't prove it yet." She stared at me like I was insane. "You don't believe in supernatural beings but you believe in reincarnation? That's sick, bruh." "I don't see any relationship between them. And please leave, a lady's gotta do what a lady's gotta do." I walked into the bathroom. "Mom says to undress IN the bathroom and not BEFORE you enter!" Nyla shouted at the top of her lungs. Two seconds later, I heard my door slam shut. That girl is going to break my door one day, and she's definitely going to fix it herself. This is how my best mornings play out. I'm Skylar Petra Fox, 18, in college - freshman year. My sister Nyla is freshman year too, but she's a year older than me. We were raised by our single mom who totally adores us. My best friend is Reina. I met her through Nyla — she's the little sister of Nyla's ex-boyfriend. Reina and I were the little sisters who always got ditched when the older ones went out. They would bribe us not to tell our parents, and we'd use the money to go to the amusement park. Life is perfect. Except for one thing: I can't sleep. When I'm done getting ready, I go downstairs. Everyone is already seated. "Morning, Mom." "Good morning, dearie. How'd you sleep?" she asks, and I sigh. "Just allow me to get the therapist for you," she continues. "No, seriously, I'm okay," I say, signaling Nyla to help me. "She's okay means she's okay. I believe she'll let us know if she has any problems. Let's dig in, else breakfast will get cold," Nyla says. I make a small agreeing sound. We sneaked home for the weekend and we're returning to school today. I don't want to ruin the mood. --- Regaleon "Regaleon Evans Ashton! Get your ass off the bed and come downstairs for breakfast!" That was my mother, Raquel. Still Luna Queen, still deciding to drag me out of bed herself. They'd already sent a maid up three times. I refused to go. "I'm fine, Mother. I'm not hungry," I said before she could say another word. "Alpha, what is wrong with you?" she asked, and I couldn't help the small smile that formed on my face. As an only child, I was going to be Alpha of Black Wings and Alpha King no matter what, so my mother started calling me Alpha when I was very little. I used to disturb her while she was busy with Luna duties, telling her I had something important to tell the Luna. She would always ask, "What's wrong with you, Alpha?" with an annoyed look, because she knew I wasn't going to say anything important. But this time, even though the memory was sweet, I was about to say something huge. "I think I don't have a mate," I told her. She looked at me, worried. "And what makes you think so?" Mother asked. "It's been seven years, Mother, and I haven't found her. What if she doesn't exist at all?" My mother quickly shook her head. "Don't say that. It can never be so. The Moon Goddess loves all her children and she knows the Alpha King needs his queen. Don't worry, son, you'll find her." I felt a little better. "Or am I the problem? You don't like me as the Luna Queen?" she asked, lifting her brows. I knew exactly what she was implying. "Eww, Mother, please leave." I heard her giggle as she walked out. Apparently, my mother thinks I'm sexually starved. _'Well, you actually are.'_ That was my wolf, Ace. _'You mean, WE are?'_ I asked, but I blocked him before he could reply. I got up and prepared for work. I'm a lecturer, and I also run the pack's oil refinery plus the Bloodline Pack's winery with help from my Beta. I like talking, but an Alpha is supposed to keep to himself, so I became a lecturer. My Beta had no choice but to follow me. He found his mate, but she's human, so he's taking it slow and now he's slacking on Beta duties. The dude is already at work. --- Getting to the university is never the problem. Finding a parking spot is. The students don't follow rules and park anywhere. There's nothing to distinguish their cars from the lecturers', so they get away with parking in the wrong places. I finally found a spot, parked, and headed straight to my office. According to people, I'm attractive. So when these young girls see me, they start to misbehave. _'Whoever told you you're attractive lied to you,'_ Ace interrupted my thoughts. _'What is it? You've been very quiet today. Is something wrong?'_ I asked. _'You're one to ask. You've been blocking me out the whole day, dude!'_ he yelled, and I couldn't help but roll my eyes. _'Whiny wolf.'_ I chuckled when he didn't respond. He's already pissed at me. I didn't settle easily in my old department. When the females stopped trying to seduce me, they transferred me to another department. The only good thing is, my Beta also works there. I believe he and my parents had something to do with the transfer. I got to my office and started revising my notes while waiting for the class rep to call me. I'm to teach Mass Communication. Interesting. _'Regaleon.'_ _'Mmm?'_ _'Can you smell that?'_ _'What?'_ _'Our mate.'_ I looked up immediately — and saw the most beautiful girl I've ever seen in this world walk into the office.
