CHAPTER THREE

829 Words
Once again, she found herself revisiting the somber day when her mother, Elisabeth, tragically perished in a motor accident, leaving her in the company of her severe, malevolent, and unfeeling father. He vehemently opposed her dreams of pursuing a musical career. Nonetheless, she persisted in living under his roof, and things seemed relatively stable until she deliberately halted her musical pursuits to gauge his response. However, her passion for music remained undiminished, compelling her to persevere. Lily had clear recollections of the period following her mother's passing, when her father, Grayson, remarried a woman named Lizzy. Their compatibility seemed uncanny, as if they were a perfect match. Regrettably, Lizzy began to subject Lily to mistreatment. Unable to endure the situation any longer, Lily fled from her home and took refuge with her friends Rose and Angelina in an apartment. It was within this setting that they crossed paths with Mitchie. During the incident, Mitchie parked the car, and the girls disembarked. However, Lily momentarily lost herself in thought until Angelina gently tapped her, prompting them both to exit the vehicle. They found themselves facing a mall where musical instruments were on display. Mitchie and the girls entered the mall, with Mitchie directing them to select the instruments they played, as they had previously discussed. Within the mall, there was a young man named Nicholas, an employee of Lily's father. He was well aware that Grayson was actively seeking Lily. As the ladies shopped, Angelina accidentally collided with Nicholas, causing the items he was carrying to scatter onto the floor. Coincidentally, Nicholas had come to the mall to retrieve some items, aligning with the ladies' shopping for instruments. As Lily and Rose hurried over to the scene, Mitchie completed the instrument purchases. "I deeply apologize," Angelina said with sincerity. "No problem, don't worry," Nicholas responded in a soothing tone. "By the way, my name is Nicholas. And yours?" "I'm Angelina." Just then, Lily and Rose joined them. Upon spotting Nicholas, Lily abruptly excused herself, informing the others, "We must leave." "Goodbye, Lily," Nicholas bid her farewell as she departed. The ladies were puzzled by how Nicholas knew Lily's name, but Lily understood that he worked for her father and would likely be searching for her. Despite their astonishment, they exchanged phone numbers before parting ways. "Goodbye, Nicholas," Angelina and Rose conveyed. "Take care, ladies," Nicholas responded, resuming his shopping. Once the ladies reached the car, Mitchie had settled the payment, and the instruments were stowed. They joined Lily in the vehicle, and with Mitchie already at the wheel, they set off. Immediately after their departure, Nicholas swiftly informed Grayson of his sighting of Lily. In response, Grayson dispatched a vehicle to tail Lily's car. As Mitchie drove, she became aware of being followed by another vehicle. "Who might that be?" she pondered. Acting swiftly, Mitchie made evasive maneuvers, navigating tight corners in an attempt to shake off their pursuer. Yet, despite her efforts, the trailing vehicle remained close behind. As Mitchie navigated through the narrow passages, she abruptly hit the brakes, causing the pursuing vehicle to collide with the rear of her car due to its high speed. While Mitchie's car absorbed the impact and left her passengers unharmed, the pursuing vehicle's windshield shattered. Mitchie reversed and returned to the road, leaving the occupants of the damaged car unconscious. "Who were those individuals? Why were they following us?" Rose inquired. "I'm baffled. I can't make sense of what just transpired," Mitchie confessed. "They're connected to my father," Lily interjected, her expression reflective of sadness. "Your father?" Mitchie exclaimed in astonishment. "Yes, I escaped from my father's control because he stood against my dream of becoming a musician. Now he's on the hunt for me." "I understand. But how did he know you were in this car?" Angelina questioned. "It was Nicholas." "Nicholas?" Angelina and Rose echoed, their confusion evident. "He works for my dad and was aware of my father's search for me. Seeing me, he likely alerted my father, who then dispatched the pursuing vehicle," Lily clarified. "It's truly unfortunate, preventing a young woman from pursuing her aspirations. Now she's a fugitive, pursued relentlessly. It's disheartening," Rose remarked. "I've noticed your somber demeanor since we got in the car. I didn't comprehend the reason until now. This situation would understandably cast a shadow and lead to unusual behavior," Angelina noted. "But Lily, try to let go of all that. Dwelling on the past can hinder your future. I encourage you to find some solace," Mitchie advised. Mitchie's concise words had a positive impact on Lily. They were akin to a refreshing sip of encouragement and support. "If only I had encountered someone like this earlier, someone who could motivate and uplift me, perhaps my achievements would have been far greater," Lily mused. Following Mitchie's counsel, Lily gradually lifted her spirits, and the group engaged in spirited conversation, sharing laughter as Mitchie adopted a more relaxed pace behind the wheel.
