CHAPTER TEN

577 Words
The Second Accident Adrian stood outside the study, frozen. He had heard Victoria and Richard discussing the accident. Someone had tampered with his car. And they had known more than they had told him. He quietly walked away before they discovered him. For the first time, Adrian wondered if the family he had remembered could be trusted. That night, he returned home. Elena immediately noticed that something was wrong. "You look worried." Adrian pulled her into his arms. "I found out something about my accident." "What?" "I don't know yet. But I promise I'll find the truth." Elena looked at him anxiously. "Whatever happened, we're together now." He kissed her forehead. "I won't let anyone take you away from me." Neither of them knew how soon that promise would be tested. The following morning, Adrian decided to investigate the accident himself. He contacted an old family doctor, who secretly told him that his car's brakes had been tampered with. Someone had wanted him dead. Adrian was shocked. Before he could ask more questions, the doctor received a phone call and immediately ended the meeting. Adrian returned home that evening. He found Elena waiting for him with their children. Leo ran into his arms. "Daddy!" Lily followed. Adrian smiled and lifted both children. For a moment, all his worries disappeared. This was his family. The only family that mattered to him now. Later that night, Elena noticed Adrian looking at her. "What?" He smiled. "Nothing." He pulled her closer. "I was just thinking how lucky I am." Elena rested her head against him. "Promise you'll stay with us?" "Forever." It was the last peaceful night they would have together. The next morning, Adrian left for the city. He promised Elena he would return before dinner. But halfway there, his driver suddenly lost control of the car. The brakes had failed. The vehicle crashed through the roadside barrier and rolled down the slope. Adrian's head struck the window. Everything went dark. At the hospital, doctors fought to save his life. Richard arrived first. Then Victoria. When the doctor finally came out, Richard rushed toward him. "Is my son alive?" "Yes. But he suffered severe head trauma." "Will he recover?" The doctor hesitated. "He may experience memory loss." Victoria's eyes widened. Richard looked at her. Neither spoke. But both understood what this meant. Hours later, Adrian opened his eyes. He looked around the room. Richard stood beside his bed. "Adrian?" Adrian stared at him. "Father?" Richard's eyes filled with relief. "Yes, son." Adrian looked confused. "What happened?" "You had an accident." Adrian slowly closed his eyes. Fragments of his past returned. His childhood. His parents. The Vale mansion. His company. Victoria. Everything came rushing back. But one thing was missing. Elena. Leo. Lily. Their life together had disappeared completely from his mind. Richard carefully watched his son. "Do you remember your family?" Adrian nodded weakly. "Yes." Then he frowned. "Why do I feel like I'm forgetting something?" Richard took his hand. "You're confused because of the accident." Adrian believed him. He had no idea that somewhere in the city, Elena was waiting for him to come home. Then he looked at his father. "How long have I been here?" Richard smiled. "Don't worry. You're home now." And somewhere across the city... Elena was still waiting for her husband to come home. She had no idea that Adrian had already forgotten her. And this time, the man she loved was gone.
