The Secret He Didn't Know
One year later, Elena found him...
They were sitting in a tiny restaurant celebrating Adrian's birthday.
Elena had bought him a cheap watch.
"I know it's not expensive."
Adrian looked at it.
"It's perfect."
"You don't even know what expensive means anymore."
He laughed.
"Maybe I don't need expensive money."
He took her hand.
"I have you."
Elena smiled.
That night, Adrian kissed her beneath the streetlights.
For the first time, Elena allowed herself to imagine a future.
A home. A family. Children.
She didn't know that the future was already beginning.
Weeks later, Elena stared at two pink lines.
Her hands trembled.
"Adrian..."
He looked up.
"What happened?"
She handed him the test.
He stared.
His eyes widened.
"Are you..."
She nodded.
"We're having a baby."
For several seconds, he said nothing.
Then he laughed. Not because he was afraid.
Because he was happy.
He pulled her into his arms.
"We're going to be parents."
Elena started crying.
"I'm scared."
"I am too."
He kissed her forehead.
"But we'll do it together."
"Promise?"
Adrian held her tightly.
"I promise."
Months later, their children were born.
Twins. A boy and a girl.
Leo and Lily.
Adrian cried when he first held them.
He looked at Elena.
"They're ours."
She smiled through her tears.
"Yes."
He kissed her forehead.
"I don't remember the family I came from."
Then he looked at their babies.
"But I know this is my family."
Elena never forgot those words.
