CHAPTER1: Stolen Bride.
Alessia's dreams were finally coming through. She'd just been recognized by a reputable organization of artists called WAA after finishing her Master's degree.
She was a talented artist.
Her career and future looked promising after long years of persistence and hard work. She was also getting married.
Alone in the elegant suite, Alessia Hart practiced her vows standing before a full-length mirror. She was excited to tie the knot with Galvin Colburn. After three years of being engaged, he was finally ready to put a ring on her finger.
Alessia felt her relatively long vow didn't accurately accentuate how much she loved him.
Alessia was clad in a delicate and beautiful wedding dress when she stepped out of her hotel room. She briefly wondered why none of her family members were present to escort her to the wedding hall.
She decided to check the lobby in case they were all waiting for her there. The hallway was empty when she stepped out, allowing Alessia to waltz freely towards the elevator.
With a loud ding, echoing in the empty hallway, the elevator doors slid open.
Alessia was surprised to see three men in casual black jeans and T-shirts. Their outfits were in sync, all three of them had their heads down and half their faces covered in masks.
Deciding that she didn't have much time to wait for another empty elevator, Alessia stepped inside, the heels of her shoes echoing softly as she shuffled between the middle-aged men.
“Excuse me.” The men didn't even spare her a glance as she dragged the detachable train of her white silk into the elevator.
The wedding hall was on the second floor, three floors below them. Alessia figured she had time to clip her veil over her head after pressing the right button.
Unfortunately, while she was distracted, a strong hand from behind covered her face with a damp cloth. Suffocating her, pinning her back to a hard chest.
Alessia's eyes almost budged out as she scratched and pulled, trying to pry his hand away with her fingers.
Alessia's thoughts spiraled, Gavin, her fiancé, was already waiting for her at the wedding hall. Her family would be worried about her disappearance, and no one would know she'd been abducted.
However, despite the adrenaline rush to break free, she quickly fell into a deep sleep. Her body went limp, the sting of a foreign substance invaded her lung, forcing her into unconsciousness.
The man easily threw her limp body over his shoulder. He exited the elevator and went to their van, unbeknownst to the wedding guests that walked past them, strolling into the hotel.
Because of the simple style of Alessia's wedding gown, when people saw her being carried into an expensive white van, they all thought an actress had fallen asleep. The men had discarded their masks in a trash can, so no one suspected a thing out of the ordinary.
The van sped away, with Alessia in the trunk while hundreds of guests, family, friends, and the groom anxiously waited in the wedding hall for the ceremony to start.
One hour later, Alessia slowly began to regain consciousness. She woke up tied to a wooden chair. Her legs and hands were firmly secured with a thick rope, and her mouth was gagged with a damp cloth. She now felt lightheaded from whatever she had been drugged with, but she could hear her captors talking.
Who were these men? She wondered why they had taken her on her wedding day. Did they want ransom? Was it because Gavin suddenly became wealthy in the last months? Were they planning to blackmail him by using her as leverage?
One of the men spoke, “It's such a waste. She's got good looks. I would've taken her for myself if we weren't paid such a large amount.”
“What's the order anyway? And who paid ten thousand dollars for this frail girl? She was so easy to take.”
“A very important person, our job is to make sure she disappears from this world. No questions asked,” A gruff voice added, “and no mistakes!”
The trio conversed as though she weren't present. Before Alessia could take in her surroundings, a large screen turned on in front of her in the dusty warehouse.
She couldn't scream, no one would hear her muffled sounds anyway. She needed to think of a way out of the situation, out of the creaking chair.
The men noticed that Alessia had awoken and came over to her, wearing sickening smiles as they fiddled with their guns and knives. They yanked the rag from her mouth and she immediately took a sharp breath.
“What do you all want from me? I'm just an ordinary artist and event decorator. I don't even make a thousand dollars a year. Please, it's my wedding today. You must've abducted the wrong person.”
“Stop talking bitch.” A man with a scar atop his left brow growled at her before pointing to the screen. “We prepared your own personal TV show,” he laughed maniacally. “Now watch.”
Immediately, the white screen started playing, and Alessia recognized the scene; it was her wedding hall.
Rose-gold flowers decorated the average hall, she had spent long hours decorating the scene with her friends the previous day.
Through the live feed on the screen, Alessia saw the numerous guests waiting along with her dear family and friends, all standing and looking towards the entrance. They were all waiting for the bride to walk down the aisle.
Her fiancé, Gavin, was standing at the little podium. Hands clasped in front of him, his eyes glistened with unshed tears as he longingly waited for his bride.
Alessia shuffled in her seat, “I'm not there,” she thought within her, “Gavin would be heartbroken with no idea that I've been abducted.”
Just when she expected the scene to morph into a search for the bride, she saw the large double doors open and a gorgeous bride stepped in elegantly wearing an expensive wedding dress—even more exquisite than Alessia's simple silk.
“W-who's that?!” Alessia's voice cracked, her throat dry from being gagged. But the surrounding men ignored her.
“Just watch the show b***h, your time is running out.”
The fake bride elegantly glided down the aisle. She locked hands with Gavin when she reached him, and he revealed a warm smile, his gaze trained on hers.
They proceeded to read their vows as the priest wedded them. The fake bride was malicious enough to recite the exact words Alessia had written as her vows.
Alessia felt like dying.
Gavin didn't act like there was anything wrong whereas she was missing. He went ahead and kissed the fake bride with nothing but adoration in his eyes as the priest pronounced them husband and wife.
Shouldn't he know what she tasted like? Couldn't he recognize her voice? More accurately, couldn't he recognise her face?
What's worse is that even her parents hugged the couple joyfully without suspecting a thing. It was bizarre to watch because clearly the bride wasn't Alessia. Why wasn't anyone complaining yet?
Alessia realized in dread an awful thing; no one noticed she was gone!
So who was the substitute?
When the angle of the camera changed, the profile of the fake bride became visible. She wore a smirk, as if she was aware Alessia's eyes were on her.
A lone tear that had found its way trickling down Alessia's red cheek stopped short when recognition dawned on her. “What is the meaning of this?”
Alessia recognized her, how wouldn't she? The fake bride was her own identical twin—Sofia!
“Isn't Sofia supposed to be abroad?” Alessia wondered aloud. “What is she doing pretending to be me? How could she kiss her brother-in-law in front of so many people?”
