Chapter 1
The late afternoon sun poured golden light through the tinted windows of Westwood Industries as Seren stepped out of the elevator, her heels echoing softly against the marble floor. She wasn’t supposed to be back until tomorrow, but she’d wrapped up her presentation in Dubai early — and she couldn’t wait to surprise Josh. Her boyfriend of three years, her safe place. Her future, she thought. The receptionist gave her a hesitant smile. “He’s in,” she said, eyeing Seren like she wanted to say more. Seren didn’t notice. She was already walking toward his office, heart light. She thought about how much of a sweetheart Josh had been and how lucky she was to have him. The door was slightly ajar. Seren reached for it, pushing it open with a soft, eager smile. Then froze. There, behind his sleek mahogany desk, stood Josh — her Josh — pressed against her sister, Camille. Their mouths locked. His hands gripping Camille’s waist. Her nails digging into his shoulders. Camille, her own sister. Disgust rose through her. She wanted to throw up. Time stopped. Seren’s suitcase dropped to the floor with a loud thud, jerking the two apart. Camille didn’t flinch. Josh didn’t even look guilty. They both just… stared. Like they weren't caught doing something bad. “What the hell is this?” Seren’s voice came out sharp, breathless. Her chest heaved as her gaze darted between them. Josh adjusted his shirt slowly, like she’d interrupted a meeting. “You weren’t supposed to be back yet.” Seren took a step in. “So that makes this okay?” Camille smirked, brushing her curls behind her shoulder. “Please, Seren. Don’t act surprised. You always thought you could have anything just because you were ‘the good one.’” The good one ..... how ?? .Has Camille been jealous of her relationship since day one??. “I am your sister,” Seren hissed. “And you—Josh, we ....” Camille’s voice sliced through. “He never loved you. You were just the access point. The connection. I’m who he wanted.” Seren’s heart cracked. She looked to Josh hoping this was a mistake and there was a Valid explanation that could solve it, one that can make everything make sense. But ,Josh didn’t deny it. He didn't even look like he would. He looked at her with disgust and placed his hand on Camille's butt. Then he shrugged. “Camille was right about one thing. You’re a good girl, Seren. Too good. But that’s never what I wanted.” Too good not to be wanted????? How the hell does that make any sense. Her eyes burned. Her fists clenched. But she wouldn’t let them see her fall apart — not here. She turned without another word, picked up her suitcase, and walked out of the office like nothing inside her had just shattered. *** The door slammed behind Seren as she stormed into the mansion, her heels echoing against the marble tiles. Her chest was tight, her vision blurred with rage and humiliation. She didn’t even wait to drop her bag before calling out. “Dad!” Her voice sliced through the air, sharp and shaking. Within moments, her father emerged from the study, dressed in his usual tailored suit, his expression mildly concerned but not surprised. “What is it now, Seren?” came another voice — softer, silkier. Her stepmother, Simone, appeared at the top of the stairs, sipping tea like it was a casual evening. Seren scoffed. “You knew. Didn’t you?” Simone blinked slowly. “Knew what?” “That Josh and Camille were screwing behind my back!” A pause. Then a shrug from Simone. “I always thought they had chemistry.” Seren’s jaw dropped. “Are you serious right now?” Her father sighed, rubbing his temples. “Seren, calm down.” “Don’t tell me to calm down! I just walked in on my boyfriend and my sister in his office, and I come home to you two acting like it’s a damn weather report!” Simone rolled her eyes and turned to walk away. “Drama, as usual.” Seren let out a broken breath and stormed up the stairs. She threw open her bedroom door and slammed it shut behind her. Then the storm hit. She tore the sheets from her bed, flung her perfume bottles across the room, kicked over the chair in the corner. Her sobs filled the room — rage, pain, betrayal, all of it poured out as the perfect image of her life shattered around her. A soft knock. “Go away!” she yelled. But the door creaked open anyway. Her father stepped in, eyeing the chaos with a sigh. “You done?” he asked gently. She wiped her tears with the back of her hand, sitting amidst the mess. “No.” He walked in, stepped carefully over a broken frame, and sat at the edge of her bed. “I didn’t want to bring this up now, but... there’s a contract I need you to follow through on.” She gave him a cold stare. “Seriously?” “It’s dinner. With a potential business partner’s son. He’s new to the city, but it could be a very beneficial deal for the company. I already agreed to it.” “Great,” Seren said bitterly. “You want me to play corporate doll while I’m falling apart.” He stood, smoothing out his jacket. “Business doesn’t wait for heartbreak, Seren. Clean up. You’re meeting him tomorrow night.” And with that, he left. Seren sat there, ruined room around her, heart still bleeding — and a dinner date with a stranger waiting for her like a ticking time bomb.
