Chapter 1
The morning light peeks in from the tiny crack between the black out curtains and the light window seal. My alarm beeps on my phone begging me to turn it off and get out of bed. The weight of today already settles on my shoulders…I’m tired, and the day hasn’t even started yet.
I groan as I sit up in my bed and rub my hand across my face before placed my feet on the cold vinyl flooring of this single wide trailer. I turn to look at my 3 year old son still asleep on the other side of my bed where he snuck in late last night.
His face is smooth in sleep and the toddler features still cling to his cheeks. Across the room in the crib the baby sleeps with his hands and arms tucked under his body. I shuffle out of the room and into the kitchen/dinning room area, where I unceremoniously dump two baskets of unfolded laundry into the table that we never use. I sign knowing I need to fold the haphazard mess but can never find the energy to do so. God, I’m tired.
I tilt my face up to the ceiling and close my eyes before I pray first in gratitude that God woke me up this morning, then for my kids and family, and various other things before asking for an easy day today. My phone dings from its place on my hip as I yawn through an amen. I check my phone to find several dating apps pop up and even more notifications from snap chat.
I shake my head ignoring the messages before beginning to dig through the clothes again. I find three outfits and proceed to go back to the bedroom where I quickly change in the adjoined bathroom and brush my teeth before waking the babies up.
