Three Girls

The four of them walked into Ethan and Mia’s home, Caleb and Angie sat beside each other on the small couch that was across from the bay window. Mia handed Angie the baby and smiled, she walked back into the kitchen to resume making dinner. Ethan stood with his mate in the kitchen to give Caleb and Angie a moment. Ethan leaned over and whispered to Mia, “This is weird right? I mean wonderful that we finally have a child of our own, but weird that the child is fathered by our alpha and a Goddess?” Mia glanced at him and then at the pair holding Iris, they were having their own conversation which Mia could only imagine was not an easy one to have. “Yeah, it is a little strange the circumstances but to be honest I’m excited to be raising Iris and also having a special connection with Angie on top of our friendship. We get to raise our kids together and these kids will be siblings. I don’t know I guess I’m just happy and at the moment I don’t have a negative thing to say.” Ethan smiled at her, she was right. Their pack was a family and everyone helped everyone especially when it came to the children of the pack. It took a village and he was just happy to have a little one to call his own. Ethan walked into the living room, “Alright, my turn. You two have been hogging all the baby snuggles.” Caleb had been holding Iris but smiled and handed her to Ethan. “I’m actually kind of glad you came and took her Ethan she’s a wonderful baby but ever since Caleb and I started holding her my baby has been going crazy with the kicking. I think maybe I should walk back home and hopefully the kicking will stop.” They both stood and Caleb hugged Mia, “If you need anything just come and get me.” Mia hugged him back, “Thank you, now go take care of your mate. We will let you know if we need anything.” “Was that knocking Ethan? Ethan!?” “Mmmm sorry, I fell back asleep. Iris was up for a long while after her feeding.” Ethan sat up in bed very groggy from being up with their new baby. He was tired but he was so happy to have her. She was the greatest joy in their lives and he was probably the happiest person in the world. “I said I think there is someone knocking at our door. If you could go see who it is I am going to go get Iris she’s awake and I am sure she’s ready to be fed.” “That little lady eats, she never sleeps, how? How is that possible?” Mia smiled at her mate, he was complaining but he also is almost always the first one up every time Iris made any sort of noise. Being a father suited Ethan, it was also very attractive how attentive he was to her. Iris had only been with them a week and you could tell she loved Ethan, every time he held her she just cooed and cooed at him. Mia walked the short distance across their room and picked up Iris, she wasn’t fussing but had been jabbering for a little while now. “Good morning little one, did you sleep at all last night? Your father swears you did not, but I think he’s dramatic.” Mia held her while she walked to the kitchen and took out some milk. Ethan was outside talking with Caleb, Mia put the milk in a bottle and Iris took to it right away. “Sweet baby girl, you eat as much as you want. You need to grow big and strong.” Ethan opened the door and told Mia to come outside. Mia had just sat down with her daughter and did not want to go outside but it was their alpha out there and she should probably go and see what was happening. “Mia, Angie went into labor last night! She is having a difficult time and the midwife could use some assistance. Would you be able to come and help?” “Of course!” She handed Iris to Ethan and went inside, she was back in just a moment dressed and ready. “We should hurry” The three of them walked quickly through the village. It wasn’t a long walk since the village was built fairly close together, it seemed that they had grown in the last week though. Many new wolves had shown up in a very short time wanting to become part of the pack. It was odd but they were happy to have them, a larger pack meant less chance of an attack. Mia walked into the cottage Caleb and Angie shared and she could hear the midwife talking with Angie. “The baby is breach, I am going to try and turn it but it is going to be painful.” Mia walked in quickly, “How can I help?” “If you could please boil some water and get more clean towels that would be great.” Mia went to the kitchen and started boiling some water. She could hear Angie cry out in pain, she made a silently plea to any Goddess that was listening that Angie would be alright and the baby would be born soon and healthy. Mia walked back into the room with the supplies the midwife had asked for. “Alright, I want you to start pushing, you can do this.” Mia went right to Angie and held her hand, Angie barred down with a very loud scream she pushed. “There we go! It’s a girl and she’s beautiful!” Angie laid back in relief, she lifted her head to see where her baby had gone but the midwife had motioned for Caleb to come over and cut the umbilical cord. She then handed the baby to Caleb and went back to examining Angie. “My dear, I have good news! There seems to be another little one who needs to make an appearance. In just a little bit you should feel the urge to push with another contraction and I think this one should be out.” Angie’s facial expression was shocked, “What!? Two!?” Mia grabbed Angie’s hand, “You can do this, one more push and you will be able to hold both your babies!” The midwife examined Angie, “Alright here we go and one big push.” Angie was in so much pain and Mia could feel it, all she could do though was hold Angie’s hand and pray. The next moment the midwife was holding another baby, “Another girl! She’s healthy just as her sister!” Caleb came over and cut the umbilical cord and held his two daughters. Mia got out of the way so he could come to Angies side and lay the babies on her chest. These little girls both had tuffs of ginger hair but sharp green eyes and their father’s complexion. “They’re beautiful, and I guess it’s not a mystery any more why I was so large!” Caleb leaned down and kissed Angie and both his daughters. Right than a piercing cry was coming from the living room along with an exasperated Ethan. “Mia come help me Iris won’t stop crying, she’s never done this. She won’t take her bottle and no matter what I do she won’t stop screaming.” And just like that the two new borns started screaming as well. The midwife took Iris from Ethan who had been standing in the doorway not wanting to come in and intrude on such a special moment but also not sure what else to do for his daughter. The midwife laid Iris down in the crib that had been hand made by Caleb for his new born, and than she went to Angie and picked up one of the twins and laid her down next to Iris, she did the same with the next twin and they stopped screaming. The three babies just laid together quietly and comfortably. “I guess all they wanted was to meet each other. I’m right that they’re only a week apart?” The midwife had turned to look at Ethan, Mia, Caleb, and Angie. Mia was the first one who spoke, “umm yes we think so, Iris came to us just last week. I think to the day. She was born the day before though, at least that’s what her birth mother told us.” “They are half siblings right?” Caleb shifted uneasily, it was still a sore subject. “Yes that’s right, all three are my daughters.” “Well it seems perfectly sensible to me that they just wanted to be near each other. You basically have a set of triplets on your hands. May I make a suggestion?” Ethan who had been pretty traumatized by Iris sudden screams, “Yes please!” “Well it makes sense to me that since it is such an unusual case the four of you should help raise them together. Maybe make a bigger cottage to accomadate the three of them, and of course the four of you” As the midwife talked she worked with Angie pushing on her stomach to help her uterus contract and stop the bleeding. The four new parents just stood there in silence, well almost all of them. Poor Angie was in agony while the midwife pushed on her tender belly. “What about what the Goddess had said about raising Iris apart?” Mia was more than a little hesitant about this suggested arrangement. The midwife just shrugged, she than went over and picked up Iris, who started wailing as soon as she was separated form the twins. As if right on cue the twins who had been sleeping peacefully woke up and also started wailing right along with their sister. “It seems to me that if you want any peace or sleep then you should probably just listen to these girls and keep them together.” She placed Iris back with her sisters and the babies all fell silent again. Caleb turned to Ethan, “I guess we better start getting some timber and building.”
