Goodbye Baby

Luna made quick work of cutting the umbilical cord, she than cleaned little Iris and took the measurements. Selena pushed the placenta out and stopped bleeding on her on which was wonderful. All in all this birth had been fairly text book. Asteria and Selena laid in the bed together snuggling the sweet babe. Luna had been so sure that the baby would be born under a full moon but obviously little miss had her own agenda and wanted to make her own schedule. How much she was like her mother already. “Iris is healthy and looks perfect, well done mama! I think it would be best for you and Iris to remain here until tomorrow night when we go to give her to Ethan and Mia.” “Alright, whatever you think is best Luna. I am tired and I could use some sleep. Will the two of you look after Iris so I can get a few hours?” Asteria did not hesitate she plucked Iris out of Selena’s hand so quickly, stood, and started rocking the baby faster than anyone could blink. Asteria than walked to the window and showed Iris the night sky, “Look at all those stars little one, no matter where you might be those stars will always be watching over you. As they are so will I, you will never be alone.” Selena smiled and fell asleep, her daughter was in good hands even though she wouldn’t be raised in Olympus the three women would watch over her no matter what. “Selena, wake up sister. Iris is hungry, she wants her mommy.” Asteria spoke gently to her sister, she did not want to give the baby back to her mother but this tiny little bean was hungry and she was not able to do anything for her in that department. Selena woke easily and smiled at the pair, she held her hands out for her daughter, she lowered the front of her dress and the baby latched on to her breast easily. “A born eater I would say, just like her mom.” Asteria was smiling from ear to ear, she loved her sister but could not help teasing her any chance she got. She told herself it was her right as the youngest to make sure her sisters were humbled ever so slightly. “Asteria, when I recover from CHILD BIRTH please do me a favor and remind me to beat your ass.” Selena threw a burp cloth at Asteria, both women laughed a little and watch Iris nurse. This had to be the most beautiful moment either of them had ever seen. “Her eyes are so remarkable don’t you think Selena?” Selena was running her hand over the top of her baby’s head feeling her blonde tuffs of hair. “It makes sense to me, her father’s eyes are piercing green, almost glowing even in human form.” Luna walked into the room, she smiled softy at the sight of them. “How are you feeling?” Asteria did not miss a beat, “I’m tired, but I think I will pull through thank you for asking.” Another burp rag was thrown at her face. “I feel alright, I would like to walk a little after Iris is done eating. Do you think that would be okay?” Luna was glaring at Asteria but stopped when she realized Selena had asked her a question. “Of course, it would be good for you to get up and move. Your body will be sore but as we’ve seen with other Goddess births you will recover quickly.” Iris had unlatched herself from her mother and started to fuss. Luna came over and picked the babe up and started to burp her. Selena carefully sat up and put her feet on the ground. “Would you like me to grab a walker?” Asteria was right next to her just in case she needed any assistance but also to give her a had time. The way she was moving you would think she was eighty years old. “Luna, would you mind reminding to beat our sister when I feel up to it? Better yet would you like to join me?” “Nothing would give me greater joy.” Luna said sweetly as she smiled and rocked the baby. Selena stood and walked to the bathroom that adjoined the medical room. Luna and Asteria heard the water turn on and just waited for their sister to be done with her shower. “This is not going to be easy Luna, and I am worried for our sister. I am also worried for us, you put on a brave face but I see the way you’ve been taking care of Selena and Iris.” “I know this is probably the hardest part of this situation but we really do not have a choice. If Iris was born a full blooded goddess then of course she could stay here with us. She is not though, she’s part werewolf and as such she really does belong in the Earth realm.” “Don’t you feel something else in her though? Like something not werewolf but also not of Olympia?” “What are you taking about? I don’t feel anything other than a very strong she wolf.” “I cannot put my finger on it but I truly believe that there maybe something else.” Ten minuets later Selena was back in the room. She looked almost completely back to her normal self. It is amazing how quickly a goddess can heal. The three women worked in silence as they got ready for the moon to make an appearance in the Earth realm. Luna placed Iris in the chariot, “Alright beautiful, are you ready to see your home?” The three women took a moment and just stared at the little bundle, she was so breath taking. One blue and one green eye, silver blonde tuffs of hair, she had her father’s dark complexion, and she just looked at them very knowingly. “Shes a thinker” Asteria said all three smiled and wrapped their arms around each other. “I believe it is time to go, Selena do you feel up to pulling the chariot, I can assist you if you need? Asteria please sit with the baby.” Luna had posed this as a question but moved right along side Selena to assist with the burden, the golden hugh of light started to glow. The two women pushed off, and the chariot followed. Mia standing at the kitchen sink washed the potatoes while Ethan was in the garden doing whatever Ethan does. He had the green thumb, however she cooked whatever he grew and it was a nice balancing act between the two. Ethan entered through the front door and walked right behind Mia and gave her a kiss on her cheek. “What are we having?’ “Well if we don’t eat these potatoes you’re going to have to put them in the ground again. I figured I would make some shepherds pie with the lamb we traded for.” “Mmmm that sounds amazing. I trained with the alpha today so I am starving! That man really knows how to fight. I think I am more of farmer than a soldier but he insists we all know how to defend ourselves.” Mia smiled as she continued to clean and peel the potatoes, she was with them at the training session today. She too had to learn how to fight but the Luna of the pack helped train the women. She was just as good a fighter as the alpha maybe even better, but the alpha decided he did not want the males getting angry at each other if one hurt the other’s mate. Mia was doing very well in her training but decided for the sake of Ethan’s pride she might want to keep that to herself. “Do you see that?” Ethan had stood from where he was sitting in the living room and was looking out their big bay window at the front of the house. Mia looked as well and saw a golden beam it seemed to be coming straight for them. They both walked outside, in one instant there was light and in another there were three women and what looked like a baby standing in their front yard.
