Caleb had found his bag and gotten dressed, he then handed the woman some clothes from his bag that he kept with him just in case he ran into rouges in need on his morning rounds. Once the two of them were dressed they headed to his village. Caleb glanced over at the woman and chuckled,
“What’s so funny?” She asked a little annoyed with him.
“The clothes are just big on you and it looks like you’re swimming in them.” Caleb could not help but smile, she was so beautiful and he was so happy that somehow, some way they had met. She might not be happy about the mate bond but he was and he was sure that given time she would be happy with him. They walked into the village which was still quite given the early hour, they passed the cottages and the sleeping wolves inside of them.
“How do you like the back alley?” He was trying to get her to smile or even joke with him a little but he was also curious of what she thought. Maybe she wouldn’t or couldn’t be happy in such a small secluded village. He had no idea what she was used to or what she even wanted out of life.
“I have to say that I am happy to be wrong. This is a beautiful village that you have.”
Caleb smiled more than he should have, it shouldn’t matter to him what she thought of his village, he was proud of it and the wolves who lived here were happy. However this was his mate and he wanted to impress her.
“I apologize but I haven’t asked you what your name is?’’ Caleb asked and was a little embarrassed for not asking before.
“Angie, it’s alright I know that I am not the friendliest creature to try and get to know. I also did not ask your name?”
“I never thought that, not at all. I just assumed when you growled you were merely singing a song, and my name is Caleb.” He was not smooth, he knew this, and now Angie did as well.
“You’re an idiot.” Angie did not hold back with her thoughts at all. She said what was on her mind no matter what, she was up front and did not beat around the bush for anyone. It had gotten her into some trouble in the past and probably would again but she could not figure out why people ever decided to not just be completely honest with their thoughts. This male was very tender hearted she could tell by the way he was trying to make light of the situation. This was the exact opposite of her personality, and she liked it. Of course the moon goddess wouldn’t pair her with someone who was just as brash as she was. They would fight constantly. Angie realized Caleb was slowing down which brought her out of her thoughts. He had brought her to a cottage that was set apart from the rest of the other cottages but only slightly. Angie figured Caleb wanted to be close enough to his pack but maybe he also desired a little distance from everyone too. Not unlike herself, she liked her alone time and was very fond of her space. How would that translate to being a Luna? Angie would have to make herself available to the pack and make sure she knew the ins and outs of everything and everyone in order to assist Caleb in keeping the peace and making sure the pack was safe. This idea does not sound like the isolated life she had known for several years. While deep in thought Angie had made it to Calebs couch and sat down, this was more robotic than anything.
“Penny for your thoughts?”
Caleb asked her as he sat down beside her, he tried not to sit to closely because he didn’t want to make her uncomfortable but he was a fairly large guy and this was a pretty small couch not to mention the only seating in his living room.
“Listen, I really like the village you have and it seems like you take great pride in what you have accomplished, but I am just unsure about how well I am going to fit in here. Several years ago my parents also had a small pack, my father was the alpha and my mother his beta. It was a really lovely little place to live and my father did his best to make sure everyone was happy and provided for. One evening we were attacked by human wolf hunters. My father fought and saved many of us, but it wasn’t enough most of the pack was slaughtered that night. They killed both my parents and anyone who did survive ran off and I’ve never seen anyone from my pack since that night. I have been on my own ever since and I just don’t know how I am going to adjust to living with a pack again.”
Caleb was silently but listened to her, he then grabbed Angie and hugged her. That was a horrible story and such a sad ending for what was probably a wonderful pack. Although knowing that Angie also had alpha blood made sense why her wolf was larger than average female wolves. This woman was no delicate flower and he did not want to run her off by rushing into anything.
“I have an idea, I have a small unused cottage that sits just behind the tree line. I like to use it when I introduce new members to the pack. It is now yours, I have no expectations of you. I just have a request that you give this pack and myself a fair shot. Stay and leave at your whim but please try and get to know us. You might like it and you might find a home here with us and myself.”
“That is more than fair,” Angie was a little taken aback by how willing Caleb was to give her space. Normally alpha wolves once they found their mate were pretty possessive and did not take to giving the females their own home or the ability to come and go as they pleased. This did give her hope, and maybe Caleb was correct, she might be able to find a home here and there was the mate bond with him to consider.
The cottage Caleb took her to was small, just one room but it had everything she would need. The bed was very comfortable, and as she sat down she had to resist the urge to just lay down and take a nap. She had been wondering for days not being able to find a decent spot to sleep for more than a couple hours.
“Do you like it?” Caleb was nervous with this arrangement, Angie could just get up and go without him knowing and he might never see her again. However this seemed like the only way she would consider staying with him. He was going to have to just trust in the mate bond and hope that giving her the space she seemed to need was the right choice.
“I really do, thank you so much for understanding that this is a delicate situation and it needs to be considered carefully. Mate bond or not, I do not know you or you me and I think some time to get to know each other and try to figure out if this is something that we BOTH want is the right decision. Although I do want to acknowledge that this is obviously not how bonded pairs go about it and I am sure it is difficult for you, so thank you.”
Caleb smiled, “All I care about is your happiness and making sure you are comfortable and make the decision you want to make on your own time. At this point if time and space and a little getting to know each other is what you desire than by all means lets do that.”
Angie smiled back at him, “If it’s all the same to you I think I am going to take a nap. Than maybe you’ll accompany me to go get my things?”
“Of course! Just let me know when you’re ready to go.” Caleb left to let Angie sleep, this was going to be very difficult for him. However she seemed very happy and obviously more comfortable around him and in the knowledge he was not going to force anything onto her. Caleb took a big deep breath, than walked out to the woods so he could make a round of his territory. He was still unsure of what Angie might have been running from. He wanted to make sure nothing came into the territory without his knowledge.
